    Great review David, a perfect blend of reviewing the frame geo, specs, and ride feel.
    You capture the handling really well with the voiceover while riding. It`s great to see how it rides over certain sections or obstacles and it seems like you were pleasantly surprised at how it flew down some of those steep bits. Also the frame size for your height is very important for buyers who cant really test ride direct sales bikes. I`m a bit taller than you but found your sizing very helpful in whether I`d fit a larger frame or not. Good work, Subscribed!

    Great review. Bird make some fantastic looking bikes. Considering this and the whyte t130 for my first full suspension bike.

      Thanks! The T130 is a great bike, not easy choosing between these two top bikes at all. Which way are you leaning?

      @@davidarthur I've been a whyte fan for quite a while but it's getting harder to look past Bird as the options for customising ur own build are fantastic & reasonable. Still to demo Bird though. Has this bike replaced the 120LT?

      @@ab_mtb yeah I've been looking hard at this bike and the ability to have it built how I want is a huge plus

    That’s a cracking review mate. I would consider changing my 2018 T130 for this bike for the more progressive geo. Looks a bit like Stanton to me.

    Great review David. Have tested a Cotic Flare and then started looking at the Aether (which I won't be able to demo due to location). Ben recommended the M/L as I am 5'11 with a 34' inseam, did you choose to test the large or was that recommended to you?

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I tested a FlareMax a couple of years ago, fantastic bike and an interesting comparison. The large Aether because that’s all they had, I’m 5’11” as well and would probably have chosen the M/L, but after riding the L, which I got on really well with, I’m not sure I’d want to downsize. Ideally you want to ride both side by side if you can? Maybe a bit tricky in the current covid crisis

    Hi there, have you tested a Transition Scout at all before - if so how does the Aether 7 compare? I already have a Bird Aeris 145LT but am looking to sell the frame and get something shorter travel and poppier after 3 years of longer travel stuff. Narrowed it down to the Aether and Acout on budget and geometry really. Like short chainstays / a modern but not silly long reach.

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not ridden the Transition Scout though it is a bike I've really wanted to ride for a while now, so sadly I can't offer any insight into how they compare. The Aether definitely has that poppy ride characteristic you want. Maybe worth demoing one?

      I tested a scout. The wallowing described in the article felt accurate on the demo day bike I road. Standing efforts caused noticeable rear end bob. Geometricaly it felt fine. I bought an AEther 7 because I desire greater reach. Can’t give a back to back comparison yet, bike isn’t built.

      I ridden both, just bought this bike. I had a 5010 before and I have ridden the scout. This is def better at everything then the 5010, in comparison to the scout I can tell you it is not as stout but it feels like it handle the same amount of carnage. I would consider this a trail bike tougher then the 5010 and not as free ride as the scout. Falls right in the middle of both. For the price and ride quality happy I went with the bird.

For US prices you just need to subtract 20% VAT, so a £3,000 bike works out to $3,273 USD after the VAT is removed and the currency is converted. There will be import taxes into the US as well which vary by state, as well as shipping to take into account." That's from my review on Pinkbike :) www.pinkbike.com/news/first-ride-bird-aether.html

      The more I look at this the more I wish it was out when I bought my Marin Hawk Hill in October. To me it's the perfect amount of travel and the build kit is amazing for the price. It's spec'ed better than my bike and it's about $80 less (before any additional fees anyway). I need to stop watching bike reviews...haha.

    You lost me at 504 reach and 425 chainstay, sounds quite unbalanced geometry. In my opinion, as the reach/wheelbase size increases the chainstay also has to.

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. Some brands are doing size-specific chainstay lengths which I think is a trend we’ll see more brands adopting. For this bike I didn’t find it unbalanced, quite the opposite in fact - it retains a nice agility in the corners and is planted on the descents

      @@davidarthur does it ride aggressive, loading the front more?

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I didn’t find the front wheel being loaded significantly more than other similar bikes, it’s easy to get the front wheel up for manuals etc, and my weight felt nicely balanced between the two wheels
