Take the hex key, add some cheap citric acid and it will be like new. Add a silica bag or two where they're stored and they won't rust again. If the colour of the silica bags change, they can't take more humidity. They can be reused after releasing the water in the oven at low temperature.
the pickup gets bigger toward the base due to the process required to mold the plastic piece. In order for the piece to eject from the mold properly after solidifying there needs to be whats known as a draft angle. If the sides were completely vertical it could stick in the mold.
These basses were very hard to get hold of in the UK, I had to get mine imported from Germany. It plays great but the only thing 'wrong' with it is the volume controls point in two different directions when at maximum.
I see some folks use superglue to make a gloss finish on fretboards. Would it be possible to fill the fret slots with such material? I guess it might be tricky to stop fluid from leaking.
Who would I order a 9.5" radius block from? I just tried Stew Mac website, they sell a set of 5 radii (that is radius plural) I only have need for one. Thanks.
Anomaly88man so did I. My first attempt and didn’t have leftover parts other than old pickups, didn’t burn the bass or bench, and didn’t burn me. Man I think Dave could teach anyone anything
I wonder how long those pickups were sitting around for that hex key to rust... How hard is it to play a fretless instrument? Why would one want a fretless instrument?
The pickups or the cheap hex key? I guess it could be all fixed just by adding a small bag of silica gel to handle the humidity during storage and shipping.
Did you file back the pickguard cavity to fit them? Looking forward to part III. Rather than holding the CD, add a link in all your video descriptions so it's easier to listen to some of it. That's less disruptive in the video.
Hell Dave you may like it enough after ya get done with it to build one for yourself . They have to be easier to get up and down the neck on while you play. A bit lighter too I. Imagine. Who knoes.
No flat wound strings on a fretless! WTF is the obsession with this? It Never sounds right. Jaco used round wounds, he practiced on a jazz with a fretted p bass neck, but ALWAYS played round wounds on his fretless jazz basses live. Seriously, it's a Squire, who the hell cares about damaging the fret board over the course of a few years, especially if it's just veneer anyway. Imho, flats are cool at times, but the mids will never sound right on a fretless bass.
Dave, the second your new Radius block shows up, right after you open the box, you’ll find your old one right next to the 12”. Great Video.

Use the fan when you Solllder, Dave, it really doesn't make that much noise. We can hear you just fine, and I'm hard of hearing.
Great stuff Dave.
Cool video, looking forward to seeing the finished setup.
I am impressed as usual with your adventures!
Looking good Dave, Cheers
Exciting stuff, keep it up Dave!
I have the red version of this bass but it isn't even in good condition.i wish mine look as new as that one
Wow, nice fretless bass! I have a Fender Jazz bass.
thx for another great video keep it up !!!!
This movie deserves an Oscar.
I guess he won't get any fret buzz now
You got this Dave lad. Easy peasy Japaneasy! Stay safe man. I love these Jag basses. Really cool.
And the cut offs are always good for neck shims.
I like when you salder Dave :) ;) 8:46 That is going to be one cool/hot bass
The rusted hex key is just VINTAGE and RELIC you wouldn't understand /s
Solder it is......good man!

Dave's World of Fun Stuff thanks and of course makes sense.
It’s going to be really cool!!
What should the string height be at the bridge end of an acoustic guitar, thanks
Is there any plan for 3rd part, as you have made a few other videos in mean time and still no 3rd part of fretless Conversion?
Did the guy want the low contrast walnut veneer on the fret board? I would have thought high contrast maple would be an option.
maple loves humidity. Maybe when you clear coat the neck (probably some of the oil has to be removed so the rest of the fretboard will take the paint)
Saaawdah it!
Boston 👍
After the operation, that bass will transition just fine. 🌈

Found one on E-Bay for a reasonable price. Not apologetic to Stew Mac for not reducing their inventory. (For not so great a price).
try solo guitars next time
They are nice rigs to practice those hacking skills.
I got pickups on my list of mods.
American english, British english. So run with it man 😃 I still like to say soddering. Like your vids, they demystify the art a bit for me
Davy can you add a link to the veneer company ?
sauers and company veneers www.sveneers.com
I just found a forty year old DiMarzio bass humbucker new in the box in a bunch of my old stuff.
LOL
Try a fan from a computer, fairly quiet I think
I had to remove the pick guard on my Jazz bass to put in better pickups.
Anomaly88man so did I. My first attempt and didn’t have leftover parts other than old pickups, didn’t burn the bass or bench, and didn’t burn me. Man I think Dave could teach anyone anything

Because... reasons.... and stuff.
Thank you, great explanation.
You can get a cool blendy slidey chorusey thing going if you're talented enough
It's a DiMarzio thing. I think they just buy cheap hardware. The last set of pickups I got from them had the same rust problem...
The pickups or the cheap hex key?

Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the fretboard?
NO,
Always send those warranty cards in promptly. Once I didn't. Long story short I'm stuck with a DiMarzio PAF that has a short in it.
Did you file back the pickguard cavity to fit them?
Looking forward to part III.

I'm not the one who wants to sell CD's. It was just a suggestion.
You'd have the info right under all of your videos.
He’s sawing through the fingerboard.
I wish i had a card dave, my job only pays cash and i dont have a bank account, so i cant be a patron or buy stickers or the CD, but we love you dave
FWIW- You can use a prepaid debit card like green dot. You buy the card, load money on it and use it just like a debit or credit card.
You sure that's a short scale?
I had no idea they made a jaguar that type, just pure ignorance. carry on
I have one. They're pretty sweet.
You will find the 9.5 block within a week of the new one being delivered, while you're looking for something completely unrelated. Guess how I know.
Mike McIlroy thanks for helping find my extra car key man!
🙄
I'd talk the owner of the bass into a great quality bridge and a silver pickguard. Continuity.
Hell Dave you may like it enough after ya get done with it to build one for yourself

The only difference between men and boys, is the price of their toys
Just don't get yer fingers near those pull saws - they can really bite into flesh!
why do I like to see people doing things they don´t enjoy?
Old --> Older; Cold --> Colder; Hold --> Holder; Fold --> Folder; Sold --> Solder. If you can't repeat that consistently then you're a chump.
