His interpretation of Phantom is in my top 2, topped only by Sir Michael Crawford but its such a fine line.. they both give Phantom this hauntingly beautiful tenderness that just touches my soul. While still possessing a commanding power when needed.. I love love love Music of the Night and would gladly listen to them both sing it to me, all night..

Here’s my guess : He is making his voice almost “drifting down and floating down “….. prior to his word “soar”……it’s like he’s trying to touch the bottom of the pool prior to springing up to “Soar” to the surface. “Spirit “ is the lowest note of that phrasing. So he had to drop it low and make it touch the bottom of the fricking Ocean first - almost like his spirit is losing all air in it prior To that mesmerizing “Soar……!” Try to sing along and use your hands and imagine hitting the bottom of a pool floor when your almost out of air - right before springing up- and let me know if it makes sense?!? Almost felt like his spirit was spilling out of a cup to me. Lol
