4x4 Yau Method: Half Centers Tutorial

- Half centers is a way to make the cross edge restriction easier to deal with. I use it when the initial bars are easy, but otherwise I'll go for 1 center at a time.
NOTE: You don't always have to do the bottom center first, but it does make look ahead a lot easier.

I was really hoping for half centers tutorial. I will be waiting for last 8 edges tips too
will do!
The 3-2-3 tutorial, which is last 8 edges is in the description.
Omg j perm commented this comment OMG
@@cubixxxforged8289 still the only time he did lol
Yay! A 4x4 tutorial from J Perm. Looking forward to more 4x4 tutorials
Correction in the comment yau!! A 4 ×4 tutorial by jperm..... 😂
At the time you posted this comment, Jperm was not as famous as he was and this was pretty big, but now he is HUGE!!
Hey dude, I've been getting into 4x4s and I haven't been able to find a good yau center tutorials.
Always thankful for your awesome cubing videos!
Looking forward to new uploads!
+Shawn Lee np! happy you found this helpful :)
wow I never even thought of doing half centers I always did them one at a time, I'm going to use this in my solves. Thanks JPerm your the best!!
Jesus Fonseca same here.
Same
Thanks so much for this video! I was talking to a guy about half-centers at my last comp and I was curious as to how it worked. Now I think I can do Yau and not hate it! :D
Over 200 likes and no dislikes, that shows you're doing it the right way my boy. Keep it up :)
Nice and normal, like it should be. I hope this helps me.
Edit: it did help me. Went from 1:10 to 1:00 on one solve😄
I liked and subbed

this video is so old but this helped soooo much. I'm just now getting into 4x4 and I'm really enjoying it! Thanks Dylan!
Amazing Tutorial! My first solve after using the method in this video was just over 10 seconds faster than my normal! This is a great video, and will still be popular after 5 years!
Sooo helpful, thanks so much! Eva's vid went over this part too quickly for me
You seem to make videos for everything I don't get yet ;)
says the fastcube master
It's been 3 years. So...how'd it go?
@@zeyy84 🤣 not too bad I’d say I get pretty much most of it now
@@FastCubeMaster what's your pb and average?
Thanks for the tips. Going to focus on 4x4 really soon. after my first comp this month!
Thank you, J Perm!!! Your channel is so underappreciated and I just wanted to say thank you for everything you do for the cubing community. Your videos are always amazing, insightful and well put together. I've been waiting for a good video on how to make centers faster on the 4x4 and you did just that! Would you please consider making a video on how to set up the wuque? Once again, thank you for an amazing channel!
+Ben Vb Thanks for the support! You just have to lube and loosen it, but not so loose that it starts to pop. I don't think it requires a whole video. Also, the wuque can be hard to tension since it almost always feel too tight or it pops. I didn't find a solution to this but the wuque m seems a lot better in this regard.
J Perm alright! Thank you!
just bought a 4X4 and got sub 1.30 beacause of theses vids, keep up the gud work, thanks!
Why am i watching this while struggling to assemble my 4x4
You knows.
lol have you gotten it together yet? I wouldn't blame you if you havent
Are you done now?
@@hamzahkhalil4994 nope I gave up a while ago
@@Jacob-mx6ie Lmao you replied after 2 years
Just getting into 4x4, and didn't know this method existed... This video is extremely helpful!
Same here, also how is it going after 3 years?
Thanks to your tutorials in one day I went from 10:00 to1:30
Мало чего понимаю из того что говоришь, но это и не обязательно. На примерах все хорошо и понятно показано. Ты лучший, спасибо.
Thanks for this tutorial. My avg dropped from 2:30 to 2:28. But that's largely due to my cube. I have an MF4S and it is HELL. I am going to buy a new 4x4 soon.
Yau method loves its 3’s
3-2-3 edge pairing
3 cross edges
3 half centers
Yeah, I just eddited
JPERM IS THE 🐐
Really helpful, thanks! I use half centers too and this taught me a couple things. My current 4x4 average is like 1:15 ish, when my 3x3 average is ~22, so... I'll be looking forward to seeing more tips from you :)
tutorial for first 3 cross edges is going to be awesome
always gotta like a J-Perm video
No dislikes... you deserve it j perm
I was trying to do the centers one at a time while learning 4x4 but I had this problem with not aligning them properly so I always had 1 center done and then the second was split so I wasn't able to figure out how to make it whole without ruining the first one. Then I thought of doing them half like in this video... and after that, I got here and saw it was actually an already defined method of solving the centers...damn
Wow... this is like the first video with no dislikes
Thx so much, i learned 3-2-3 edge pairing and half center and it was so useful
i never realized this was a thing, will definitely help me to get sub 1.
thank you j perm ❤🧡💛💚💙💜❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
thank you, really helpful, please make some more tutorials like this, btw I got my first 4x4 sub 1 yesterday
You're always doing really good tutorials! Thank you!
great video J Perm
and pls make some more videos for 4×4 cube
Hey J perm can u do a FMC tutorial?
Devansh Kumar He said he will
He has finally
finally........thanks j perm
Half centers is way easier then i thought, and its super fast
*Overview*
0:21 1. Make 3 half centers.
0:45 2. Solve bottom center
1:00 3. Solve F/B centers
*Examples*
1:11 Example 1
2:54 Example 2
3:56 Example 3
5:06 Example 4
5:17 Example 5
6:15 Fast Example
Woah damn i used to one at a time. This is so much better ! Big ups to you dylan
Just what I needed :)
good
This was SOOOOOO useful Thank you so much fro making this and keep going!!
thank a lot I was really struggling with the centers
Wish I could give you a million more thumbs up!
Hey j perm, i average 58sec on 4x4 and I really really struggle with first 3 edges, I just have so much pauses in them. Can you please make a video on it or give me some tips? Much appreaciated.
Pls make a series of tutorial on solving 4 x 4 please
yeah i'll have example solves, edge pairing, and etc. in the future :)
NICE this is the reason. Y I watch Ur videos
This helped me quite a bit thanks a lot Man !!!!!!
glad it helped :)
Thank you for making this video it helped me a lot
nice video j perm I liked it even though I don't do 4*4
I do my centers before any edge pairing, even the cross, is this bad for my times, and if so, why
Thanks J Perm
Holy crap this is so much easier
LOL
nice vid, but I need help with creating the 3 half centres. You told us how to solve the centres using the half centres method, but not making the half centres. Did that make sense? Dunno if I said that right but if you understand, pls make that vid
This is very useful!
please...make tutorial for the 3-2-3 edge pairings bro
1Cuber vlog 547 I reccomend cyoubx
yes please, I'm using 6-2 but I'm not happy with that
will do!
nice
J Perm what about 6 - 2 edge pairing?
Thanks was really helpful
Thanks, this is what I needed to get to sub-60
please make more video on how to get faster on 4*4*4 i m using the yau's method but m averaging nearly one and a half minute.my average on 3*3*3 is around 18 sec
after finishing the center, better finish front or back first
whichever one is easier
Great video!
Also make comparison video between the best 4/4 on the market
Hey J Perm, what if, after f2c, you solve 2 more centers before solving cross edges to make it a sort of half redux, half yau solve?
Can u do a parity tutorial, it will be so helpful :)
I might do a parity tricks video in the future, but for just a parity algorithm tutorial cyotheking has a good one :)
J Perm ok thanks :)
please make a tutorial on hoya method after yau series
can you do the same thing but with redoction because i think that many people will like that and also mabey with the 3 first white bars?
thank you dude btw mini aosu or wuque m?
2:05 it’s not the down position on the left. It’s the down position on the right.
+Nabranes TwistyPuzzler I mirrored the video so sometimes my talking is wrong, sorry haha. i did everything lefty while recordinf
J Perm Ok. Thanks for letting me know.
Jb Perm Nonetheless, this tutorial is AMAZING! Thanks, and also thanks to all of your Yau stuff and just videos in general! I’m averaging somewhere around 2 minutes with freeslice, but I figured it was time for Yau. Your tutorials have helped me in learning things for efficient Yau. Now, I just have to practice. I also need to work on sub 30 on 3x3, and I know EVERYTHING I need to learn and practice for that.
+Nabranes TwistyPuzzler glad u like it :)
I don't do half centers I do one at a time. Should I start to learn this?
+MrSchacht If you like the idea and think it could be faster, then yes you should. You don't have to, though. Many people use one at a time and many people use half centers
Great video! Can you make one for yau 5?
+Drake Johnsen I don't do 5x5 :(
3-2-3 edge pairing would be nice
Good tutorial
Question about yau last 4 centers: if I notice a lot of solved edges during center solving, should I ignore them or try to conserve them some how?
I'm not j perm but I just ignore them because the edges only take a couple of seconds to begin with, there is no point in spending 3 seconds to conserve an edge which you might solve in 2 seconds later in the solve.
Also conserving the edges might mess up the 3-2-3 edge pairing later in the solve
How do you get your 4x4 to move so smoothly while also not looking like it is too loose? I find with mine I get one or the other and I think I have a pretty good cube
Use lube
how do you assemble the half centers without messing up the 3 cross pieces?
J Perm can you make a video yau that is full
this is so amazing
Is it really needed to solve 3 pairs of white edges before doing the half centers?
+Vinsu Kinto 3 edges is part of the Yau method, and half centers is good in Yau because you won't have to do awkward L moves once your half centers are set up.
Is half centers needed to be fast
Please do tutorial for parity and some tips
Is 6-2 or 3-2-3 edge pairing better?
+Hamza Abbas Zaidi Is 6-2 where you line up 3 edge pairs twice by slicing and slicing back?
I think 3-2-3 is better for look ahead because it can handle more special cases, and if you run into special cases for 6-2 it will be more annoying.
can u do a video on yau cross edge pairing?
+Shiva Sankar yeah eventually :)
whoa you can really see those oh muscles on your left hand
Are there other advanced center making methods.
centers are pretty straightforward. check out my sub-1 video for influencing centers, that's pretty important.
I used this method even before I saw this video but I wasn't sure if it's a good method
Can be done with Meyer method?
Sub 1 tut plssssss,maybe sub 50 and 40 later?
idk what the splits are since my splits are messed up. i'll see about sub-x tutorials after i finish the yau-specific tutorials.
Thanks, nobody explains better than you.
your the best !!
Do you have any cubing friend
I struggle with lookahead for the first cross edges, so how can I improve this?
keep locations in memory. once a piece goes to the back of the cube, remember the color and position (left/right) so you don't have to look at it again
OK. I'll have to improve on muscle memory for pairing up the edges so I can look at other places. Thanks!
In your latest video (as of now) you said to comment and like every one of you videos, so here I go
Please make a beginner tutorial of 4x4 cube please
what is the meaning of the word F/B
front/back face
thanks
cool bro and can u go for 4x4 walkthrough
Thats cool, thanks!
How far have you improved on 4x4 now?
averaging about 49 but i haven't practiced as much since i injured my hand for a bit and im focusing mostly on 3x3 for the upcoming competition.
You improved quickly. When I averaged around 47 - 48 you were sub 1 minute. Now you are around 49 and I haven't improved a second. I have improved on 3x3 , nearly sub 10 now.
+Soham Chougule Yeah cause my 4x4 stage was really sloppy. Now that I've cleaned it up, I'm finding it harder to improve too. I'll make more 4x4 progress videos possibly after the comp. Good job on 3x3!
how that edge at u remain same. i get confuse how to protect edge at up left.
+Amrit Upreti it doesn't get protected, you leave it unsolved and solve the after centers.
nice
im gonna use this
Yes This video made my day!!
Do you know prefer half centers
Make a video on solving 4x4x4 in 30 seconds
@@debabratamund9845he quit youtube
Is colour neutrality good on 4x4?
Yes, but it's marginal just like it's marginal on 3x3. personally i am not color neutral but i might learn white/yellow neutrality at some point.
I feel like learning the colour scheme for all crosses is a bit hard and I use a bit of corner phasing. ( I am CN and phasing means to see various positons and stickers of corners and make out colour scheme ). Is it a right habit or should I learn it one center at a time?
If i had to be cn, i would probably learn the color patterns the same way i did for white only.
i know that for me, white cross means blue>red>green>orange (cross on right)
so yellow is just backwards of that.
then for example, red corss = white>blue>yellow>green
so orange cross is just backwards of that
and then maybe do the same thing for green and know that blue is backwards.
so basically memorize 3 schemes and think backwards for 3 more. after a while i'd just get used to it though, but i feel like memorization is better than figuring it out during the solve.
but i'm not cn, maybe you can ask someone who is :)
Thanks and nice video btw
What do you average on 4x4 now?
+Mohammed Zaid Shoukath 49 but I took a break and now am focusing on 3x3
I average about the same. Came down from around 1:15 to 49 in about a month. Basically have only been doing 4x4.
