The Second Opium War is incredibly complex. While certainly not all of the Europeans' actions were justified, the Chinese weren't much morally better (due to them violating protocol and brutally executing a French Christian missionary, as well as torturing the peace diplomats to death).
Opium back then also didn't have the same negative connotations as today, it was seen as another stimulant, like coffee. Much of the British upper class was addicted to poppy derivatives.

Yet, Western Powers Failed to Suppress China as of Today 😂😂
Would love to watch more videos on Boxer Rebellion. It's a piece of history which doesn't get much attention imo.
The year was 1900, 'tis worth remembering
The men who lived through 55 days at Peking
'Twas called the boxer insurrection, a bloody oriental war.
Against all nations of the diplomatic corps.
The flags of France and Britain how they fluttered in the breeze, the Italian and Russians and the flag of the Japanese.
'twas called the Boxer Insurrection
a bloody Oriental war
@@wackojacko0295 Then came the sound of bugles
And the rolling drums doom
And the streets of Peking were as empty as a tomb

And let the foreign devils be driven from Peking
They stormed the French Legation
They attacked with shot and shell
And they came in blood red blouses
Screaming shashow as they fell
The guns have long since muffled, the bugals cease to ring but through the ages you can hear them echoing
I love the newspaper stories in these videos. You have to pause them and read them, they're hilarious!
The boxer rebellion: when you make such an outlandish claim basically every world power bands together just to prove you aren’t bulletproof..
your dedication to putting in so many good jokes in the newspapers is incredible. The French colonization of Chad’s article was especially fun.
1900: Working together
1914: World War I time and we're all enemies
1920: we're friends again
1939: World war II Time
1946: We're all Friends and Cold war Time
1991: We're all Friends again!
2021: We're frenemies
this wasn't rivals coming together to fight a greater enemy, this was bullies teaming up to steal someone's lunch money.
I've learned to always pause the video and read the full text on your newspapers, like at 1:13, you never disappoint...
Reading the Vienna news was one of the funniest things on this channel. Especially the French colony of Chad 'stealing yo girl'
Mark Felton here on youtube did an excellent video series covering both Opium Wars and later conflicts like The Boxer Rebellion for those further interested.

*FRENCH TO FOUND "MOST ALPHA COLONY"*
French leaders have announced the creation of what experts call "the most alpha colony known to man". Chad has been created to explicitly to "steal yo girl" and largely make you feel bad for your dainty ways.
He could have added that the Kaiser personally spoke to his close friend Sultan Abdulhamid who was the ottoman sultan at the time, to persuade the boxers to stop their actions.
“In the meantime, to pre-empt the possibility of Muslims’ participation in the Boxer Uprising, the German kaiser requested the Ottoman sultan send an extraor- dinary envoy to China on a mission to advise Chinese Muslims not to join in the uprising. Abdul Hamid II did not want to reject the request of his friend the kaiser. Furthermore he recognized that he was being presented with the opportunity to play an unexpected role in the affairs of the great powers and possibly to play a part on the international stage. “
The sultan was a puppet at that time.

Been waiting for an episode on the boxer rebellion, worth the wait
So to "Oversimplify" Boxer Rebellion is named Boxer because Western though that Kung Fu is another form of Boxing, which is no but technically yes.
Boxer Rebellion happen because Citizens of Qing see the dynasty as weak and want to reduce foreign influence in China.
3 main reason why many Great Power obliterated the Boxer rebellion.
1) they didn't want their citizens living in china st the time die.
2) Prestige like global recognition.
3) Trade, they didn't want to lose their massive cash cow and their Opium trade.
And lastly they want to flex their military might to each other.
didnt boxers think they have magical powers or something
@@raptorfromthe6ix833 something along the way yeah, they actually immerse them selves in chinese myth and legend and think they could do dbz sht to the westerners and also they are high in opium since after the British capture of their fortress it was littered with bongs.
Actually the Boxers of the Boxer Rebellion were proper boxers, not kung-fu practitioners.
The yellow turbans thought that the blessing of the Christian mother of the emperor made them immune to bullets.

This is the reason why these same group of countries are today feeling a sense of anxiety and insecurity from China's rise. They fear payback.
Honestly this is one of the best channels on TH-cam
You should have mentioned that many of these country didn't send that many soldiers and that in fact more than half of them were Japanese. The entire things is very glamourized as all these countries fighting side by side when in actuality the Japanese did most of the fighting.
Possibly due to logistics, Japan is the closest one so they had an easier time transporting troops iirc
@@erichvondonitz5325 Also, western militaries didn't really need to send that many soldiers to relieve the Foreign Legation because most of the Boxers are armed mostly with melee weapons and some very obsolete artillery whereas western militaries are armed with bolt action rifles, machine guns, and artilleries.
While that is true, there were also cases where soldiers from all 8 nations were fighting side by side. The embassy siege for example.
Why do you have to ruin it?

Italy: " Exactly! Together WE, the great powers of the world, will take military actions!"

🌖 SERCH ADITYA RATHORE-HE ALSO MAKES INFORMATIVE CONTENT LIKE HISTORY MATTERS
1:51 Tiny little bit, Korea wasn't part of Japan back then. They became a protectorate in 1905 and were annexed in 1910.
This video missed one thing. The effects it had on China. Even today Chinese talk about the 8 nation alliance that sacked the forbidden palace.
It reinforces the ideology of China vs the World, which unfortunately is exactly what's happening right now...
Reinforced but not created. Chinese always treat neighbours as backward barbarians and only China, bearer the mandate of heaven, is destined to be the center of the world and its sole ruler. Which was true for some time in the past, but not today. Yet.
@@Nikola95inYT This is a gross oversimplification. Yes, that kind of attitude was held by many of imperial China's administrators and court officials, but it was not necessarily true of the peasantry and common populace and certainly isn't the standard opinion now. You might get an occasional nationalist who thinks that, and there is this notion that China is superior to some neighboring countries, but they definitely do not think that they are culturally superior to the west.
The world powers at that time chose to carve up China and loot everything of value. Now the ruling elite of China wish to do everything it can to insure it never happens again even if it means aggressively expanding outward. I don’t agree with it but it’s a natural consequence of humiliating a people for extended periods of time.
@@bobjones2959 You are wrong, the Chinese all know that the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded China, and they have been learning from elementary school textbooks. This is a shame for China, 99% of Chinese know what bad things the Eight-Power Allied Forces have done in China
