After a recent Windows 10 update on my Toshiba Satellite m840-A759 I now have a black screen + non-blinking underscore after the Toshiba Leading Innovation logo screen. I tried reseating the CMOS battery (the time and date stay accurate) + the 4G RAM (even swapped it out some extra 2GB RAM chips I had laying around), but can't see a Legacy or UEFI setting, except for USB Legacy Emulation. I've tried everything and I'm losing hope. I would really appreciate your help mate. Thank you in advance!

I have tried booting Windows 10 from USB that I created using the Media Creation Tool 21H1 from Windows, but the screen just goes black (without the non-blinking white underscore). You said if that doesn't work then there's a problem with the HDD? But when I connect the HDD to another pc it opens up and can be used just fine as an external HDD. So how can there be a problem with it? Should I format it before I put it back into the laptop? If so, how? Cheers! (PS: I read somewhere that someone overcame this problem by removing their hard drive and installed Windows from USB, then reattached the HDD and was able to reinstall that way. I tried it but doesn't work for me..)

Lastly, the BIOS (F2,F12, Toshiba Leading Innovation logo) not showing up and the screen being black the whole time shouldn't have anything to do with the HDD right? It turns on, I can feel the fan spinning, just nothing happens on the screen. Completely black all the time. You sure it's the HDD?

I have this issue for about 2 years and I can’t seem to fix it how can I set as new I’m stuck on the black screen with the white lettering I followed your steps but I am trying to solve with the usb but that’s another thing I’m still lost please help thank you :)

@@LuisGonzalez-cr1lg If the cause of the black screen was operating system related then yes, reinstalling will help. If the cause of the problem was something else then reinstalling the OS may not have much of an effect

Hello. I kept changing the boot mode for the nth time and it still goes back to setup utility. Is there anything else I can do?

I did it,it showed no BOOTABLE device,insert boot disk and press any key
Then reverse that change and continue on with the rest of the video :)

In case the computer displays a black screen with a no blinking cursor in the corner. What should I do ?

I finally gave up trying to fix it myself as that's how it ended up with this issue.. $200 something for geek squad to get it going again

Most BIOS systems will not let you use a mouse. Can you use the tab or arrow keys? If not, you may have to use an external keyboard or mouse.
the arrow keys worked thank you! The only legacy I can find says legacy usb support. I also don’t see anywhere that says uefi

When I try pressing f11 it will show a blue screen with a ton of options one of them says f11-system recovery but when I press it it does nothing
