    I keep trying this and it ONLY results in a screen that allows the safe mode options or start windows normally and they all result in the same condition: black screen with white cursor. Any advice on how to get past this?

    • @AskYourComputerGuy

      I would download a Windows installer, boot to it and see if it lets you get to a command prompt, where you could run chkdsk, SFC or even system restore. Here's how to do that: th-cam.com/video/5naOPxd6vsI/w-d-xo.html

    I just had a Windows Update “could not complete, undoing changes”
    Brand new computer (11th gen i7) is now stupid slow, takes 5 minutes to execute a command prompt, open up the settings menu, etc. Now when I try to do the update in settings, after about 5 minutes it gives me black screen. Any ideas? Happy to explain more if necessary.

      Hard to say. Could be software or hardware at this point. If brand new, I would go ahead and run a factory recovery to eliminate hardware. If it ends up hardware (most likely drive), submit warranty claim or refund/exchange. I always try to eliminate one or the other right off the bat...too many variables otherwise

      It is not uncommon after a Windows update for this to happen. Many times with the Windows updates you just have to restart multiple times or get into safe mode for Windows to sort of address its own issues. Sometimes it's malware, sometimes Windows. Sometimes it's just updates. You just have to start with the most likely thing and work your way to a solution

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would still start with safe mode. If you can't get your screen to come on at all, you could have bigger issues, such as LCD or video output failure. Or it could just be that your system is stuck in hibernation. Hard to say, but trying safe mode is always a good start to see what actually works and what doesn't

      @@RakeshKumar-hb5tq well you have to get to the restore menu first. That's the critical part. I usually only go back to the point where I know everything was working properly. System restore points can get damaged or corrupted too, so if you go back to your latest restore point and it doesn't work, try again and go one point further back. And even if Windows says the restore failed, reboot anyway nice seen 1000 times where it tells me it failed and I reboot and everything works. It will even tell me it failed after it successfully boots lol

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With loginui.exe, it could be. I'd definitely run a system file checker (from command prompt, type "SFC /scannow")....but when your login GUI is damaged, you're likely looking at a Windows reload. But you might get lucky, definitely try it first!

    What about a black screen with no cursor? A virus attacked and disabled my PC out of the blue yesterday morning. I stupidly let my virus protection lapse because it interferred with my music editing software and I guess that was when the virus struck. I was able to try and get to a restore point. The message I received said the scan was successful. But it was after this that I received a black screen without a cursor. Could it be that there is no longer any Windows software left on the PC? I cannot get into the PC at all at this point. it appears totally disabled. Should I try to reinstall Windows 10? This seems like a more serious problem. Using the Ctrl+Windows icon+Shift +8 command has no effect. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      So the desktop appears but never loads Windows, and you have no cursor at all? Is that correct? Do you have your files backed up? If so, a Windows refresh (or reinstall in Windows 7 and older) would be my first fix, after getting your files safely off the machine

    I followed the steps in the video, but at the end of the repair installation (i chose the option to fix existing windows installation issues without affecting personal files); a small window titled "Install Windows" pops up and says:
    "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows ok this computer, restart the installation".

      You will either need to access the recovery partition on the drive, which could be damaged already, or a Windows 7 CD/DVD installation disc. Just understand that the more your use that drive, the more potential damage you will cause to any files you need to recover. If you don't have a DVD but have a legal copy installed, you can find Windows 7 installation media on just about any torrent site and they will activate legally through Microsoft

    Hi! So I tried all these except for the last option, because I didn't have thst option available to me, and unfortunately nothing had worked. 🙁 This problem started yesterday when my monitor (a TV kind) couldn't pick up a signal (for some reason it does this sometimes, and sometimes removing and then inserting the HDMI cable fixes it, but if not, I have to force the comiter to shut down).
    Yesterday, it was the second option, but my PC wanted to do a scan due to the way I had shut it down as opossed to the way you SHOULD shut a PC down, which isn't holding down the power button, but seeing my screen was mostly black, I can see where I'd put my cursor to shut it down the normal way.
    Honestly, it could be a virus, and I don't know what to do. 🙁 Can someone help!? 🙏

      These are all the steps you can take prior to a full factory restore. If you've tried them all, that's probably your next step. If you have data you need to save, best to have someone extract that for you before you do, because you will lose them all during the restore

      Unknown Hard Error generally occurs due to corrupt system files, registry entries, malware attacks, and certain Windows updates (for some users). This error may lead the system to malfunction or even crashing; your system and data are at great risk. You definitely need a factory restore at minimum. Windows is corrupted or damaged.

      Depending on your model, you will have certain keys at bootup (usually have to hit escape or F1 to get to them). These allow you to get to BIOS or specify a different boot drive. Once at this menu, you might see an option for factory restore. If not, you'll need to follow my video on how to download a Windows ISO disc to have a Windows install disc to reload from. You'll need someone else to let you use their computer to do this obviously. Friend or family member

    Hello sir, I have a few questions since I have this same problem in Windows 10 after the login screen after I succesfully reset the PC to fix a bootloop issue.
    I can get into safe mode and safe mode with networking just fine.
    The problem is normal mode isn't working, and the task manager doesn't even show up in normal mode even after clicking on it in the ctrl+alt+del menu.
    At first I thought it was a graphic card driver issue, but uninstalling it did nothing.
    What do you suggest?

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a general rule, if safe mode works and normal mode doesn't, I almost always just end up reinstalling Windows. There are so many variables and possibilities of what it could be. I don't have time to go through 100,000 different Windows fixes, so I'll just wipe and reload. Safe mode with networking tells me that at least the hard drive is likely still good. And it lets me back up client files easily. That's pretty much it, though

      Sorry to hear that. Sometimes Windows is too damaged to be repaired and just needs to be reinstalled. Good luck!

    I had to update my graphics tablet and phone program at the same time. And i forced a restart, leading me to the black screen. I hope leaving my computer on the black screen for a few hours will fix the problem

      Try CTRL-ALT-DEL...see if anything pops up. Could just be Explorer not loading

      You can just install Windows again

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rohitkoshal4717 that’s not always practical. What if they had software they no longer had the installation disc for? Reinstalling Windows, whether through a refresh or a clean install wipes that non-preloaded program. That’s why I show in this video how to *bypass* the login and keep the existing software installed :)

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was based on a Windows 7 PC. I would boot to your Windows 7 installation disc and try some of the steps from the "repair" option during install. If those don't work, your next option is likely a Windows reinstall :(
