Sorry to contradict you old chap but that was an IMPERFECT, UNSUCCESSFUL, INCOMPLETE TAKE- OFF WHICH did not reach the clouds nor did achieve full height to allow the parachute to unfurl.
I helped carry that rocket to the launch pad and know the builder- they were a bit depressed with its performance
Bummer the chute didn't deploy properly. That said... WOW! That was awesome. I imagine a night launch would be impressive as well.

There are loads of such special fantastic, amazing such events all around Thailand but it requires a degree of effort and one has to be both organised, intetrepid and strong.

Is this Africa Space Programm?
No it the Issan FUN program coming from NE Thailand. Its part of a rain making ritual held from April to June every year for the past 500 hundred years and followed by thousands of people if not hundreds of thousands. Issan has a population of 25 million people and is the agrarian backbone of Thailand. They speak a a different form of Thai which most Thais can't speak or understand. Most Thais speak central Thai which the Issan people can also speak. They are a rugged and tough people. As you can very determined. It takes 30 men to build one of the big rockets and about twenty to wrestle it on the back ok a flat bed truck and off again on to a firing spike...So when one goes wrong a there are a lot off disappointed people.
The smoke looks like that moving fluid with relaxing music and when it goes up looks like Jack and the beanstalk

That was amazing! All the noise and smoke , decent altitude and then a splashdown! And nobody got hurt.
Considering how many people attend the major rocket festivals and how much we drink its a miracle more people don't get hurt or killed- Although two people were killed in Burriram when a rocket landed on their car. Since then rocket festivals have been banned in Burriram. Which is a great shame.

It would surprise the people who built it, but it will still be stable, just rotating the other way.
Had it spun in the opposite direction, it would have driven itself into the ground and eventually come out on the other side of the earth!

Actually India has made more progress recently on than the EU, The USA and the UK having successfully launched a space vehicle and landed a module on the moon and the then travelled in that module , about two months ago actually. So do keep up with the news old chap....its a pity Americans fun program isn't so developed

There are loads of such special fantastic, amazing such events all around Thailand but it requires a degree of effort and one has to be both organised, intetrepid and strong. They are of semi religious significance concerned with pleasing the rain gods specifically to please them to get rain between April and July.

Have you ever been near an old fashioned rocket launch? They are as loud as thunder storm amplified by the Greatful Dead! All the rocketers wear ear plugs for the duration of the festivals at Yasothon, Roi et, Kalasin, etc etc The noise is phenomenal!

What goes up must come down- that's the plan! People bet thousands of dollars on these things-every year- There are hundreds of rocket festivals in Issan every spring notably Kalasin and Yasothon and others including Roi et the largest. The Rocket festivals are an important part of Issan culture concerned with asking for rain to feed the rice crops

For the rocketeers who built it- it was a bit disappointing- for me certainly nerve wracking. You can see in some of my other videos when they take off perfectly with out incident, fly high then drop with a parachute blossoming behind and slowing their fall.

It was not really a success because 2 years later that rice paddy wasn't there! I really wish people would just accept my as was there all day- I know about these damn things - I know what happened to that launch- I know what was supposed to have happened. I had no idea it was going to be so controversial!!!!!. Just take it from me guys. Its NOT A CLEAN TAKE OFF. ITS NOT A GIRONDOLA- IT CRASHED! But I'm very pleased so many people have appreciated the videos of the Bang Fai Talays. Please check out the other videos too.
