    This type of video with live positional drilling with instruction is actually quite rare (relatively speaking) on TH-cam. Thank you for posting it. Please continue to post these kinds of videos from other positions (e.g. starting from turtle with opponent in front headlock, starting from back with opponent having hooks in, etc.). There are thousands of instructional videos out there that demonstrate mechanics, which is great, but seeing it 'live' with advanced guys and commentary is to me one of the best ways to coach others. Thanks again SBG Portland.

    Wow! That was really great to see a live drill with high level guys with instructions being called out. Like others have mentioned, something we don't see since most videos are step by step techniques that do not address the what ifs. This is gold to what their reactions with active resistance. Thank you.

    Man I wish I could do the Closed Guard more often. But I don't have the body type for it since most of my practice partners are bigger than me. I'm only 5' 1" and 130 lb. And I have short stubby legs.

    Nice video. What does Matt mean by keeping a "heavy back leg" while taking the back?

    • @lightning7582
      @lightning7582 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When taking the back it's the bottom leg that gets the hook first or the back leg. Almost like a standing motion. Heavy is like pressing your leg away with engaged hips.

    Can this work if punches are being thrown?

    • @tokinabo
      @tokinabo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yep! try it and you will see. it's even easier to then catch armbars, triangles or sweeps, because of the commitment in the punch causing more unbalance

    🤔one common guard break I see a lot, yet was only briefly jokingly applied, was the elbows into the thighs. The defense for that should have been covered IMO. That -ish hurts!
