My brother was afflicted with this for so long and he never overcame it, just forced his shot to be a draw for no good reason. I think he got hung up on slicing as a 36er for so long that every fade in his mind was a slice. He just refused to accept that a) that was his shot and b) no one hits a straight shot. I've got a low runny draw, it's not ideal in the wet or for stopping shots but it's what I've got. What I don't got is 2000 hours to spend on a range perfecting shot shaping.

Love your videos pal. I'm a 7 handicap and really just started breaking 80 all the time the last 10 months or so. I think the first thing is keep your tee ball in play. OB and having to chip out of trees kills ya. Secondly, hitting putts inside 5 feet to save pars and even bogeys takes 3-4 strokes a round off the card. I used to miss those putts all the time so I put in hours and hours of practice on that alone. Keep up the great work my man, your videos and humor are fantastic

Thank you, Matt. 225+ ! Yes! I just scrape past the bare minimum. As a short-hitting (231 yard avg drive) single-digit (currently 4.1) golfer, I can say that this is all absolute gold. Keeping big numbers to a minimum, short game, keeping dumb mistakes to a minimum, sharpening up that short game, leaving yourself a favorite club into greens, short game. And short game.
And I often need to remind myself that this is a really hard game to play consistently well, and that I am an amateur and I'm going to hit some bad shots and have some bad holes.
I like your approach, Matt, because you take the game seriously, and the pursuit of a better game, but minus the harmful (and unnecessary) stress on yourself. That's something I could improve on, for sure.
That and approach shots from 125-150. And bunker play. And aiming too far left.
    And on it goes....

As a LTA level 4 Senior club coach at Hayes tennis club and teaching sport for a living ,I can honestly say this video is excellent and more or less technically correct I’m coming to the fundamentals of the sport.
You have covered tactically technically mentally and physically the aspects of golf.
You have covered the game situations well and the tactical intentions.
You have also tackled golf ball management and how we move the ball around in my case the tennis court but in your case a golf course and what are you actually trying to do.
The 666 strategy I am going to borrow from you and convert that to a tennis 666 system!
I have also done all my coaching badges at football upto UEFA b and it’s only when you learn the nuts and bolts of the game that you can start to improve your own game
    Knowledge is Power!
PS when are your golf fitness videos coming out as Vijay Singh is rocking it at the moment lol
Thanks once again for this video you’ve taken it to another level
    well done

After watching the these break strategies I very quickly broke 100, then a few weeks later broke 90, went from 23 hcp to 12 hcp very quickly. Just accepting my current limitations and not ‘going’ for it has been awesome. These are by far the best golf videos on TH-cam . I've been working real hard since Covid, 4-6 hrs of practice for each round played. Broke 80 twice last year. Using this approach on a lot of holes. My friends all hit driver to a short par 4 last week, 2 of them were in trouble. I used a 5 wood and then holed out with a wedge, first hole out in a few years. Sometimes playing smarter isn't as much "fun", but I'll take the lower scores now any day. Thanks Matt!!

34'45 so true: everything starts from the green. If you 'always' put in 2, then the approachs are easier. You know you just have to touch the greens to do the par or better. Once you know that, then the teeshots are easier.

I watched this video and committed myself to a better work out regiment, small sustainable swing changes, and better course management. I had been shooting in the high 80's for the last year, and wanted to focus on just getting back to breaking 85. Just played yesterday, 3 rounds after committing myself to this process, and shot 79. These tips work playas. Matt, you're brilliant and thank you.

This is such good advice. I re-watched the 2006 Open (the British one) last week, all 4.5 hours of the last round. All of this was Tigers strategy. Reduced the mistakes (he missed just ONE fairway) by taking only an iron or 3 wood off the tee. Never hit driver. Kept the ball in play. Hit the green. Didn´t always go pin seeking. I think he dropped just one shot, but made a few birdies and one eagle. Taking into account playing conditions (super fast) and wind conditions (v.windy) result, final round score, 67.

My advice. Practice chipping in back yard a few times a week. This will help you understand contact better so you hit your longer irons pure on the course. Then practice putting at night in living room. Best thing I did with my Driver was stop swinging it like an iron. And started swinging it like a baseball bat with a more parallel swing. Now my drives go center fairway. Hope it helps!

    1)Work back from the hole.
2)Set up on correct side of tee box.
3)Leave yourself distances you feel confident with.
4)Stay focused as much as possible.
This lead to 14 pars, 1 birdie, 1 Eagle and 2 bogeys. So dankie Matt!

Just came here to applaud the way of the playa. Your philosophy is easy to understand and fantastic. My only thoughts today were swing like Bo and use the sub 80 6-6-6 system. I played stress free and shot a 76. Thank you Matt. I didn’t smash the ball all day except for the first tee when I was uncomfortable over the ball. Thank you for your great work on this channel. I am 100 percent sold on the way of the playa.

I implemented this in my last round. We got rained out and only got to play nine holes, but I shot a 39 (only added up after we decided to stop) pared 7 of 9 holes and played all par 5s as 3 shot holes. The most important part, I felt completely stress free. I found myself smiling over the ball before I hit my shots, I was having so much fun! If I didn't like the feeling I had over the ball I stepped away and chose a "happier" club and my stress melted away for an easy par. Can't wait to get out any play again with this approach.

Rewatched this video this morning and went out this evening and shot my lowest round ever: 80. The key was making unbelievable up and downs and sinking some longish putts because I only hit 1 green in regulation. More work to do but I am so grateful to you, Mr. Sidekick! Thank you.

Brilliant video. That hour flew by.
I can relate to so much that you spoke about.
I was a 11 handicap golfer and consistently play high 70’s to mid 80’s but can also have a meltdown and be well onto the 90’s.
I do need to be more mindful and concentrate more on the course, think back from the green is a good thought process.
I tend to rely on my natural ability rather than being more mindful.

The ratio you use of 2 hours short game 1 hour long/full shots is so accurate. I was playing off 28, but shooting 120-130. I then went to the range 4 times a week... 1 basket of 50 balls, 50 from the bunker, pick them up, 50 from 30-50 yards mixed fairway and rough, pick them up and then hit 50 down the range.
3 months later I played a full round in a work competition and shot 82. This kind of practice will help anyone, provided it’s in that order.
    Matt is talking 100% sense.
don’t forget pro’s don’t make much money if they fix you in the first lesson, so they won’t tell you these tips to get your score down.

      @darunia484 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Curious why you practice bunker instead of just normal chipping off fairway/rough? I had a similar idea, buy a bucket of balls and use them to practice chipping/pitch shots first then use them at the range

Matt you broke my heart on the first one...Having to play in the morning it is always wet and I may have only rolled it 225 a handful of times. My driver carry is about 180. I always thought I was hitting it 250...but watching you had me measuring every shot so I knew my carry and the reality was saddening...Will have to work extra hard on the rest...Or play the Senior Tee's since I am 62. LOL

I just shot 75 (5+) on my local public course.
    2 Birdies, 9 Pars, 7 Bogeys. 4/14 Fairways Hit 4/14 (29%). 5 GIR (28%). Up and Down 6/13 (46%). 29 Puts (1 chip in, 5 one-putt, 12 two-putts).
(I know this is not the same as breaking 80 on a professional tournament course, but it is a good place to start to get the confidence up.)
    the 666 works
Thanks so much for this video!

Love the content. I used to play in competitions and there was always the one guy who when marking your card would stand on the 10th tee and say, you’re only 4 over par, great front 9. Cue a duck hook on the 10th tee. I hate knowing what my score is before I walk off 18.

Great video. Started playing 5 years ago, I broke 90 18 months ago, this year came came close to breaking 80 a couple times. I definitely need to work on my short game because I'm making a lot of 3 putts and not chipping to within 5 ft. But for me the biggest gap between shooting 85-95 vs shooting over 100 was getting rid of chunks and shanks thanks to some lessons from a teaching pro who was attuned to my needs.

Great VLOG. Couple of comments. I’m a senior, play 1st thing in the AM and on a good day my average drive is 210 yards, on a wet day it’s 200 yards. My 8 iron goes between 120 and 130. The part I did not like about your video was saying you need to hit the ball 225 yards to break 80. My average score this year was below 80 for the 1st time. What I’d like to know is what tees you should be playing.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You don’t HAVE to but makes it easier. Senior golfer 210 off the tee 5700-6000 yards should be most fun with 6400 being a stretch. I mean i play with Didi and he averages 220-235 and 6600 is way too long for him to have real fun and enjoy the round to the max.
