Listening now, and I can relate to your sentiments 👍. With music though, I have learnt not to box myself in, as per mood. It makes ANY interpretation, pretty much a function of how one is feeling, at the time of listening. That was in Leicester. Evergreen ✅️

For over 15 years I've watched videos of so many pianists peform this Piano Concerto, but Valentina Lisitsa stands high above them all. Truly awesome!! 🧡
Wow... Most of the times Lisitsas interpretations of works are not my personal favorite, though being brilliantly played. Just a matter of taste. However: till this day couldn't find anyone who, in my opinion, nailed that ending of the first movement. It always felt kinda sudden and not organic. But the way she plays those thirds sharp like a knife beginning in 10:06 and how she controls the dynamic of the last big arpeggio and also its phrasing really drew me in... Simply bravo, her playing is sublime.
The second concert of Sergei Rachmaninoff became a landmark for the composer, who firmly entered the history of world music and took a special place in it, and still remains, perhaps, the most popular work of Rachmaninoff, thanks to its extraordinary beauty and emotionality. According to the plan and implementation, this concert - story about the Motherland. . . The brilliant virtuosity of Valentina Lisitsa and her poetic imagination are fascinating, she is phenomenal. . .
I will forever love ❤ Valentina Lisitsa 😊!!! What an amazing pianist 👏🙌!!! She has absolutely perfect touch with her interpretation of Rachmoninoff and Franz Litz!!! Incredible!!

The ferocity of a lion and the tenderness of a mother with her new born. She reminds me a vulture the way hovers over the keys with such focus devouring everything in front of her.
God only knows what the author was sharing with this amazing piece. I have my own version, feeling and emotion. I can only try to imagine what Rach tried to express. This is the richness of masterpieces.
Yes, the background is pretty dark... Three years before this concerto, there was the premiere of his first symphony. The conductor was drunk, making the music so bad that people where leaving during the piece. Rachmaninoff fell in a major depression due to this massive failure, which lasted 3 years. This concerto is dedicated to Nicolas Dhal, the neurologist who helped him (with hypnosis), and advised him to write this concerto, which made Rachmaninoff find his creativity back. (Source : Wikipédia) We can see yourself the music getting brighter and brighter, with the dramatic introduction of the first movement and the playful end of the third movement, showing Rachmaninoff mental's health getting better !
Luckily we have some recordings of Rachmaninoff so we can know how the author wanted the piece to be played, So sad that we don't have recordings of Chopin, Lists, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaykosky, Schubert, Schuman, Debussy, Ravel...
@@nicolaspachecoarango You have to be careful when you say that the way Rachmaninoff played is exactly how he wanted it to be played. Rachmaninoff actually did not like performing his own pieces
Hi Valentina , I found you while checking out some tunes of Rob Costlow , I was also listening to the Warsaw Concerto by you which is a favourite of mine , I don't know much about classical music but I have an ear for music and you're talent and also your personality stood out to me , you appeal to the ordinary folk besides the musicaly educated , that is a quality that cannot be taught , it's a magic you naturaly have , all the best and good luck with everything x
That's my favourite moment in any concerto...the only other one that comes close is the finale to the 4th mvt to Moszkowski's piano concerto in E Major.
Love rehearsals. One with Bolet playing the 3rd is so educational..even for one who has heard these concertos hundreds of times. Nice video, though Maestro Francis looks just a bit too much like a certain CEO of a certain Social media conglomerate for my comfort. haha.
Classical music deserves more attention.

I had the opportunity to watch this Rachmaninoff concerto in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) played by Valentina. It was undescribable!
Valentina understands this music more deeply than most pianists that are more famous than her.

seen it live 18 times by 12 different pianists. surprisingly her and Lang Lang have had the best live performances
She is stunning. I find it miraculous that I just sat through 34 minutes of memorized Rachmaninoff.
