    Great video! One thing that you could have done instead of buying 60 gallons of windshield washer fluid is buy the windshield washer fluid tabs. They come individually wrapped and sealed like a piece of candy and you just drop one into a gallon of water. You can buy 60 of them for like $10 online. Not sure if they can work at -25° or not but I use them for our cars here in Florida as it never gets that cold here.

    You sure done gots your toys!! Haha. It’s fun having a few classics around.
    We ran R4s when they became more readily available on a lot of our yard tractors, currently I have a 4052M with a cab on it that has heat and Air Conditioning, living in Southern Alberta now even makes the cab nice. I am keeping it for snow clearing. The current place is set up such that I don’t even need a 100 garden tractor now!!. I had not heard of filling tires with washer fluid until a few US channels showed it. We used Calcium Chloride or heavy water from the oil fields. Don’t get it on your leather boots or gloves though or they will be 4 sizes smaller the next day!! I occasionally had some pretty curly toed boots when I helped at the tire shop in spring & fall if they needed as the product dries leather up to the consistency of steel!!! Heh heh. Unfortunately I would order tires and be darned if they didn’t show up at the shop and I had to put them on myself!!! Hahaha. Sucks when you own the place too,,,,, but man my prices were way better for me back then!! Haha. For a while even, there would still be the occasional farm tractor that had tires full of graphite powder. Horrible crap to deal with.
    We use the calcium chloride for the same reasons (Ballast) but we can be working as cold as -45C plus wind chill. It doesn’t get there often, but we see 40 below C which is the same as 40 below F often enough. At the coldest temperatures the Heavy water especially can get pretty slushy. You don’t want to run in road gear when they are like that! Start hopping away!
    You will probably see the occasional damage from the R4s on the grass if it’s really wet, but that depends on your soil as well. Don’t use the brakes to turn,,,,, not if you don’t have to. I suspect Turf tires would even cause damage then. They will be much better on your other farm land. Much better. I don’t find that they are the greatest in really muddy conditions. Your farm land loooked like it was some very good draining land so no problem there! I look forward to hear what you think of them!

      Good comment, a lot to unpack here, I have seen guys use calcium chloride but I was more worried about rust with that, but man those are great temps! Lol, I bet the would hop! Yeah I have already seen the R4s are harder on the grass in the corners, especially going down hill and turning where the pressure is on the front! But you are 100% right, on the farm oh my goodness are they soooooo much better!! They sure clean out much better, the turfs always got loaded with mud and took days to clean out, the R4s just get dirty but don’t hold the mud, soooo nice!

      @@shotslife - You are definitely right about rust. You need to make sure the rim is painted well and fill the tire with chloride such that it is above the stem when full, or at 80%. That way, the rim doesn’t experience air as the fluid in the tire is always above the top of the rim. It’s easier to do than you think, but I’m not sure the rig you have can do it, because you can’t take the rig off to put the valve core in, it has to be done from within the rig. Very hard to explain in writing for me. The worst place we had to deal with rust on the, generally farmers, rims was at the valve stem. That kind of damage/issue doesn’t occur for quite some time mind you. In the days of Tubes, it was less of a problem, depending on how clean the previous installation was. We sold our fair share of tractor rims though. I doubt you would ever have troubles. Since you don’t get the really cold temperatures, I don’t see any reason to use anything different than what you used here, other than cost,,,,,. The system worked very well for you. We had a system that pulled the whole valve stem out so it would fill faster, but that’s an expensive set up we used several times a week to even several times a day. The valve stem on most Ag/implement tires have a different valve that comes apart. (I’m sure you know this, but not all viewers do.) We stored our fluid in an old tanker trailer, just the pup section and had a company come in and fill the tank as needed. It was a lot cheaper that way, for us & the client.
      What you did here was correct, but not maybe as full as a tire shop would have filled them. As you said, you are seeing some damage on hills & turns. More weight in the tires could make it worse.
      Sooooo is there anything that you CAN’T do??? Heh heh. (No need to respond if you are swamped, I understand.)

    Your ground is probably more firm than ours in the edge of the MS Delta. To use ag tires on our yards, the ground has to be about bone dry to prevent ruts. The fluid filled tires are great for ag use and loading. I'll be very interested to see how this plays out.

      Hey Jerry, my other tires were fluid filled as well so I already had the weight, I can tell you these R4s are way better on the farm.. but time will tell on the yard grass for sure!

    You really didnt have to build that manifold. Just use the pump and hook to that valve you can release the air from that air purge on the valve.

    Going to be expensive flats in the future aren't they? Seems wheel weights would accomplish the additional weight goal with less fuss? You would also be able to add quite a bit more if that were desirable.

    • @shotslife
      @shotslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Doug, yeah I think wheel weights cost a bit more. I suppose it wouldn’t be good if you got a flat but that’s rare with the rear tractor tires (but does happen). I definitely could buy wheel weights to add weight, II have suitcase weights for the front but never use them, I just put on the loader because there are always rocks and limbs to move!

    I was thinking, with the cost of all the wiper fluid, could you have used RV antifreeze mixed with water and still get the Neg 25 rating. But use more water for less expense? I could be wrong.

    Don't know if its true, I was told my tractors valve stems need to be on the inside to prevent them from snagging and getting ripped off the wheel. Also, my tire guy told me to rotate the valve stem to a 2:o'clock position and fill with a hose and the adapter. it doesn't freeze here though.

    • @shotslife
      @shotslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but these wheels were designed to have the valve on the front, I don’t like it as much but it is what it is… I’ve also seen them that the valves are surrounded by metal so they are better protected… interesting, yeah water is great if you don’t get freezing temps!
