  • Luxury has become boring, jaded, done, are we all just over it? With the houses releasing more and more collections, with everything becoming a little unimaginative, are we all just done with luxury? In this video I talk about how I have become a bit bored with luxury, how nothing is really exciting, and why this has led me to be buying very little at the moment, I have bought one preloved Gucci bag this year for $600 and no other luxury bags since November 2023. Let me know your thoughts on being bored with luxury.

Luxury is not dead, it is just on hold until the demand comes back. The economy globally is not great, the designers are all copying each other, and the prices are just stupid. The luxury companies did this to themselves, took advantage of buyers with HUGE prices, finally the economy went bad and buyers ran from luxury and went to Coach.

Coach is my favorite, they’re affordable luxury. They have a lot of similar styles in their outlet and good quality in the boutique, their outlet stuff is still nice quality for the price. My everyday small purse is a coach. Anyway, usually I look at coach for something similar to the expensive brands before buying something expensive.

Low quality, high prices, treatment of customers and no creativity make me think luxury handbag sales will drop. Heck, even Chanel’s creative Director has had it. Better places to put our money like travel and buying food for that matter! The economic downturn over the last three years is brutal.

It seems to me that all the people who are becoming "bored" or "fatigued" with luxury are people who already have huge collections of luxury items. I'm still interested in (and buying) luxury because there are so many bags that I don't have yet and that I want. I don't really follow the latest collections and releases other than watching luxury youtubers talking about them, and the bags I want aren't necessarily the newest styles or colourways. So no, I'm not bored with luxury at all.

Last luxe purchase was Nov ‘23 for me too. My lifestyle is such that I don’t have enough places to go to take the bags I already own and love so I cannot justify buying more luxury bags simply because I like them, if I’m not really getting use from ones I already have. I think many people are the same. This year I’ve had several city breaks with evening events and a week in the sun but I only took 2 bags each time and even repeated those on one stay because they work the best. My most used bags so far this year have been Longchamp and Uniqlo due to my more relaxed clothing style. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve been bored lately as well. Maybe it’s because I really do have enough bags. But I do miss Karl Lagerfield’s Chanel. I miss that excitement of a new collection. And LV really doesn’t have anything I want that badly either. Also, I thought many of the new Dior bags seem cheap looking even before the scandal came out. I love the idea of the small book totes with the handles but they didn’t look great when I saw them in person 😢.

For me there is nothing being offered any more than excites me especially given the price points. I also think that the number of releases is a problem. The amount of stuff now is so overwhelming that things easily got out of it. The prices are also likely contributing. It’s easier to covet a 2-3k bag versus a 10-15k bag. The flight mode collection was one I was super interested in, but nothing was available. But, I would argue some of that was because it was cool and unique and the price points were more accessible.

Not bored, just taking luxury at at a slower pace because I want to look into other activities (luxury took a big amount of my time past 2 years and I want to spend more time with people), there are very few releases this year that grabs my heart, the exotics and other special releases is of course higher in price so I will only buy 1 or 2 instead of 4, and... the past years have had fabulous releases so much so that I bought at least 8 in the past 2 years and so, in a way, I am still purse happy... I am seeing some new releases which has attitude... so I will buy 1 or 2 before the year is over...

My situation is different, when it 'looks like' people got tired of Chanel, I just started liking the flap😅. I wished I had bought them when we were living in Europe 4yrs ago when the Flap was around 6k. I would love the beautiful pastels in blue, pink, purple..😪. I think you'll get bored when you owned a lot or you're just really not liking what's out there now, but for us who doesn't have certain lux bags yet, we still wanted it and it's still exciting to me. Still not an Hermes fan. I only go after what my heart wants and Chanel flap medium in pastel or Tiffany Blue, pastel yellow or purple are tugging my heart right now😂.

I’ve been bored with the new releases too. I’ve used your phrase “It’s living rent free in my brain” since you first said it and it really works. Most of the bags that lived rent free I’m over them. I’m so glad I paused and reflected. I have been looking on the preloved sites for the bags that got away. They are all living rent free because the prices are still too high. I do feel sad that the excitement for luxury has diminished for me but on the other hand I’ve been enjoying the bags I have.

I feel that I agree with you. I believe my last luxury purchase from a boutique was my LV discovery bumbag from the men’s Virgil Abloh collection. Since then I have been buying many vintage and pre loved bags that I missed out on. My last just a few days ago is a Mona Lisa pochette from The Masters collection by Jeff Koons. I have been searching for that bag for years as it is my absolute favorite painting and after I finally found one in the condition that I wanted my heart began to sing although that collection received much controversy, I know what I love and want. And as you stated, I have not had that from any collections in a while. Searching for and finding true luxury gems has been very fulfilling and exciting for me the last couple of years. So enjoy New York looking for those gems, it is the perfect place for treasure hunting. ❤

For me the constant price increases are a serious turn off. Is the quality or design better? We are in tough economic times & it’s tone deaf imo. I have a small collection of a dozen LV bags and have put a pause on purchasing “luxury”. Is it truly still “luxury”? The quality, the experience… hmmm not quite sure anymore. 🤔 I am actually just enjoying what I have & kinda feeling vintage right now.

@ameliarosescloset sorry about the typos. I fixed it, but maybe do a weekly series on the bags you used this week?. Yesterday, I wore coach mini tote to the horse races, but today I wore a white bottega cassette bag. Share how you use your bags.

I have decided last year that I was going to do a low buy year. I have sold a few bags and bought my first bag this year in Q2 granted I bought 3 bags this year but 2 of them I was on the hunt for for years and one was a nice surprise and fell in love with. I think I am done for the year and I am not chasing anymore. I am also super disappointed with the RTW prices of Chanel. So currently enjoying what I have I also just had a baby raising 4 kids is expensive 😂

i feel like every person has that 1-2 brands that they just vibe with. For me it's fendi and i can find a couple things in each new fendi collection that i'd want to buy. Same for gucci shoes.
for ysl and gucci. Ysl overvalued their leather goods. Gucci lost the creative designer that was doing the maximalism that a certain luxury customer wanted. i suspect that customer will move onto valentino. Also gucci really raised their prices.

Yes and no. I still love luxury in that I love beautiful leather and well made bags but I’m losing my enthusiasm for the big brands. The recent Dior scandal has soured my view of the brand.
I’m waiting on a handmade bag from a small company (Atelier Peter Nitz) that is going to be stunning.
But my dream of owning a Birkin is declining as I think I might feel uncomfortable carrying it as it’s so well known and I’d worry about being mugged but also judged by people who know what it costs.
So the idea of really under the radar luxury from small companies appeals to me.

Here is my problem: Every luxury content creator posts the same content: it’s the same bags, same jewelry, the same brands that we see over and over and over. Brands like Gucci, LV, maybe Dior with their latest scandal get canceled. Now it’s all about Hermes, every girl and their mother is wearing a B or K (more fakes than reals haha), the same VCA & Cartier jewelry. Before it was the Rolex, now it’s the audemars piguet everywhere. There is just no creativity in style, even less individuality than before. Don’t get me wrong, I love luxury, I love bags as I am a bag collector; my holy grail bag is the Birkin. But even if I would have the chance to get it now, I wouldn’t even want it because it really lost its attraction. I’ll be back watching luxury content once they start talking about other brands… 😊
