A great and distinguished teacher known as Miss Heraughty taught at Castlegal national school in northe Sligo as head teacher. It is understood that she was born on Inishmurray Island and may been relateted to Doctor Heraughty. Can anyone throw further light on this?
The Bowmore rocks are marked on older maps as "The Boa Inshy rocks" which is probably anglicisation of "Bogha" meaning reef or sunken sea rock per Dineen dictionary. Note also Boa Island in Lough Erne.
My grandmother Agnes Heraughty was from Innismurray island.
Very interesting and very authentic.

Love this; my grandparents lived in streedagh and I was often told stories about this island. Unfortunately never got over to visit it! Enlightening!
