Great footage.Love the landscape and action. These birds are really scouting around now.Peregrine's not taking any chance's with a bigger bird of prey near it's nest.Bet the kite's just happy to get outta there.

Great job tracking in tough terrain, keeping in frame and descent scale.

cameraguy was sweating after this one. Red kite has a wingspan of 180cm topspeed 180km/h. Peregrine falcon is considerably smaller with 100cm wingspan but a wopping divingspeed of 390km/h have been measured. Peregrine falcon is a very impressive bird and no animal on Earth can outrun it. Pure aerodynamic perfectionized through millions of years of evolution.

You can see very well how strong the peregrine is. By the time the red kite just recovered from a sharp turn, the peregrine falcon has already gained speed, altitude and a 50 m distance

Good moves by the red kite to prevent a hard strike. Kite pulls up at the diving peregrine meeting the attack instead of just running scared. Good defense.

At first I was thinking there must be a peregrine nest there. Its the right type of landscape but peregrines make a helluva lot of noise with their very distinctive alarm call around the nest but I don’t hear any alarm call.

despite their difference in shape and overall size they are both built for open windy conditions.

Thanks for the tip! Slowed down, it's much easier to follow the action. I believe a falcon wins a confrontation with a larger bird 90 percent of the time. This was like watching a race between a 18-wheel big rig and a sports car. No contest, which of course usually true in a big bird vs small bird situation. Maneuverability usually but not always wins out.

The kite probably got into the Falcon's territory specially during nesting. It's normal for any raptors to behave that way when they are territorial

One of these days mobbing birds luck will run out its brave but if that red kite wanted to or needed too it would kill mr falcon iv seen for my own eyes what happens when a buzzard gets pissed off so to all those so called birdwatchers who think there David attenborough who say buzzards only kill tiny stuff that's horse shit iv seen them chasing peregrine off and iv seen a buzzard kill a tawny owl

I have many birds of prey, including kite and peregrine. Kite simply has no chance against peregrine, even on the ground because kite looks like a much larger birds, but in fact its body and especially feet and talons are very small. Buzzard is much more deadlier bird and can kill peregrine on the ground. Of course, peregrine can also kill a buzzard on the ground, it all depends on the circumstances.

Look at 6:10 , and what happens to a kite when peregrines are serious! In the air a deadly serious peregrine can kill virtually any bird of prey!

Suppose ppl will think peregrine can kill a golden Eagle next
In England top bird of prey is buzzard fact
Iv witnessed in belper at the.mill where peregrine nest last year a buzzard sadly killed the male peregrine just has it was taking off and ppl state buzzards are not aggressive

The Peregrine would destroy the red kite ever seen the size of Redkite feet they are tiny the Falcon could break the kites wing it’s spine of snap it’s neck if it tackled it on the ground falcons have been used for century’s to catch and kill kites in the old days

@@carltaylor1975 No such thing as 'top bird of prey', they tend to fill niches and rarely compete with each other unless they have to. Maybe Kites and Buzzards are fairly similar in the way they live and hunt, but the Kite seems to be doing just fine.
All scenarios are different, all of these bids can kill each other in certain situations, but as a Peregrine has evolved to take birds (sometimes not much smaller than itself) out of the air and Buzzards have evolved to hunt little wriggly or dead things on the ground, then I think I'd stop short of calling a buzzard England's 'top bird of prey'.
Oh and for what it's worth, if a Peregrine wanted to and took it by surprise, then it could definitely kill a Golden Eagle. Point being it never would and would probably kill itself in the process, but all birds are hollow boned and fragile (including a Golden Eagle), a Peregrine can basically turn itself in to a 200mph 1kg stone, it could kill any bird in a kamikaze mission.

@@carltaylor1975 Canterbury had dead buzzards falling out of the sky, after a bit of research it turned out to be the Peregrines nesting on the Cathedral knocking them senseless if they crossed their territory.
