On a purely superficial level....no one looked as good as Dave Vanian in 76.

@A SJ They were so good and new, no one in rural norfolk could quite belive it. I was 15 and hitch hiked from great yarmouth to the gig at west runton. Im glad i did as it was a short set and never seen anything as good since. We were in awe..lol

I was 12 when Machine Gun Etiquette came out. I got it for Christmas along with London Calling, Metal Box, Sid Sings, The Raven and Setting Sons. The best Christmas ever! I loved MGE then and still love it now. I always play it at Christmas! Glorious! (By the way, yeah, I know Sid Sings is dreadful but, 4 out of 5 ain't bad...... and I loved it when I was 12!).

Apparently (according to Sid) the damned gave Sid a wrong time or wrong address for the audition so making it much more favourable for Dave vanian for when he turned up for the audition. Once Dave won the audition Sid hated the damned for their attempt to sabotage him from joining them which led to the glass throwing incident at the punk festival few months later when Sid threw a glass at the damned while they played thus girl in the audience ended up blind in 1 eye from the shattered glass
