Dale Jr. joined a small amount of drivers that won both the Xfinity 300-mile opener and the Daytona 500. Aside from Junior the only other drivers that pulled off the sweep are, Bobby Allison (1988), Darrell Waltrip (1989), and has been done only once after Junior which was Kevin Harvick (2007). No one has swept the July races since Daytona was awarded a second NXS date, with the closest being Kyle Busch in 2007 where he won the Busch event and lost the Pepsi 400 by 0.005-seconds.
I remember Truex here, beginning his 1st full Busch Series season. He ran several races a year earlier and lost rookie status for 2004. His 2003 stats showed no wins but had 2nds and showed he was gonna factor the following year and he did do that.
They ran the Terminator 3 car twice, at the 2003 Winn Dixie 250 and here at the 2004 Hersheys 300 as a back-up car. Only time a movie themed car has been run twice.
That is very same Paul Wolfe that ended up becoming the championship crew chief for Brad Keselowski in 2012. I guess Paul realized he wasn't cut out for racing stock cars so he went to wrenching them instead. Good call.
I don’t know how my dad knew, which tracks he wanted to take me to, that I’d have the best, and exciting time. 1 the first was back in 1999 at Texas, where I got to see Dale Jr win his first ever cup race. 2. Talledega, and being able to see Dale Sr get his last ever win. 3. Dover, less then 2 weeks after the coward terrorist attack in New York. It gave me the child seeing dale Jr win the first race back after 9/11. and seeing Jr carrying our 🇺🇸 around the track. 4. And 5. Talledega, where Dale Jr won 4 straight there. I’m forgetting another one, and it was at Daytona, in July 2001, and seeing dale do that mosh pit was cool. My only regret, was not seeing Dale Sr , race more. Man I miss him behind the wheel, and it would haves been even mor special in a car made by Jr Motorsports chassis’s , and motors. but I really understand why now. Can’t wait to read Kelly Earnhardt’s new book. God bless, and i hope we see the numbers go down!! Y’all be safe and healthy.
Of course you saw that Truex Jr. started on Pole. Dale Jr. would go on to win Bristol in the 81 car from the Pole. Seven wins for the 8 in 2004: Dale Jr. at Daytona (February) and Truex Jr's. 6 (Bristol-1, Talladega, Nazareth [I was there], Gateway, Dover-2, and Memphis)
Underrated plate race wow

A rare case where the race started on NBC and concluded on TNT.
Not really, it happened all the time. The 2003 Fall Atlanta race started on NBC and finished on TNT the next day.
1:33 a rare non 500 version of the Fuel era NBC Daytona intro for 2002 and 2004.

Mark Martin Failed to Qualify for this race. What a Miserable Weekend he had.
And to think Paul Wolfe would go on to win a Cup Series Championship as Brad Keselowski's crew chief in 2012.
