Because of this tutorial, I decided to install PS 2020 because I wanted to try out the new Object Selection tool as well as the remove background tool. Also, I never used the gradient tool in PS (using it in LR) but I think I’ll try that too. Thanks Colin.
Just did the update today... Looks like some cool new features. Of course, now I have to set things up the way I had them before (I have my layers / adjustments / brushes / etc. on a second monitor) but that object selection looks like it's going to be awesome - and the new warp features are going to be some serious fun. Off to watch your warp tool video, now! 👍
I am not sure if its enough for me to upgrade but your explanation is so helpful. I just don't know if it is a big update for the type work I do. Keep these info tutorials coming.
An excellent introduction. I really liked the new feature of AI based removing background. I must say, it is still far from being excellent, and I still need to do a lot of after-work, but I guess that they will be getting better over time. And even though I still need to do work to refine they AI-based background removal, I found out that in average it reduces the retouching time a lot. I think that they should emphasize working on such AI based features, as these are a huge time saver to most users. Lemogan
love your tutorials -clear , concise and always learn something different.Thank you for sharing your knowledge to lesser skilled graphics guys, such as myself - stay safe and be well.
I noticed there is some kind of major upgrade to LR too. It is converting my old catalog to a new catalog. Took a long time to do this. Can you do a video on the changes?
Great tutorial - loved what you cover. But why doesn't my PROPERTIES box look like yours. My box only contains Transform / Align & Distribute / Quick Actions. How do I make mine look like your Property Box. Thank you!!!
Good toturial Cafe Chef! To me, the improved selection tool is by far the most useful and important, then I think the content aware fill. But overall I think Adobe did a fantastic job in all the improvements, now I only need to have it installed.
I like the same features. But, I can only absorb so much from a video. I like text and test cases like the Photoshop books of old. I ordered the Adobe one because that's all there is for 2020 and btw, I don't see any 2019 books out there from those who still were publishing as late as 2018. So when advanced content-aware came out in 2019 there was nothing but TH-cam videos available.
Everything seems a bit faster in this newer iteration and less leggy. Only negative I found was my Nik Software ( the older Google one not the newer DXO version ) vanished from my filters options as did one of my brushes. Not a big deal, just go into your file explorer> programs>Adobe and open both Photoshop 2019 & Photoshop 2020. Check plug ins folder in 2019 and simply copy & paste to to 2020's plug in folder and all is well. Likewise check your brushes folder in 2019 and again simply copy/paste any missing ones to the 2020 brushes folder. My Luminar Flex and Luminar 3 filter plug ins showed up fine without me having to go through this process. I assume folk using other editing software as plug ins will generally be ok but if not just do the copy/paste thing I did to get things working. ☺
Hi Colin , love your videos learn so much, just a small question, I'm up to date with photoshop and want to start using "trees" as I do alot of composites, I have never used it before, so if I go to filter then render it is greyed out along with frame and picture frame, but all the others are not greyed out, am I missing something? thanks in advance.
Very useful tutorial, once again. Quick question for you, though. There is a word you used a couple of times, I think it's "rasterize"? Anyway, I couldn't understand the meaning of it, especially relating to Photoshop. What is that, exactly?
Any suggestions on why I am not able to "open files as layers in PS" from LR? 2 or 3 of 7 open in one file and another opens separately and rest do not open. Images stored on external drive, MacBook Pro with Catalina and latest LR and PS updates. Thanks
Is this Photoshop CC, or what's referred to as Adobe Photoshop 2020? I updated to Catalina on my iMac so I can't use CS6 which I loved...I'm trying to determine if Adobe Photoshop 2020 comes even close to CS6...
You forgot 1 feature. You can now rotate the brush with the tilde key + arrows EDIT: It seems the tilde is not needed, it just works with just the arrows keys too and add SHIFT for larger increments The tilde key is justed to swith from brush to the eraser. Works in also in layer masks / quick masks . There it switches from white to black.
I'm using ON1 a lot, but it doesn't do well at all replacing backgrounds in portraits, and it doesn't work in sky replacements when there are a lot of tree branches. It used to, but each newer version gets worse. How do I replace backgrounds and skies in Photoshop 2020?
Will need to upgrade my iMac to download new version of Photoshop anybody have any recommendations on what I should configure for a new iMac. Any recommendations appreciated.
Hi Colin,i have a problem with the new upgrade,as soon as i try to select with the new object selection tool,my pc freezes,i can have the graphic card on or off it makes no difference, any ideas.
I'm finding one hick-up with the installation. From a friend of mine, "Got the updates installed and all checks out. Note that I had to uncheck the “Keep Preferences” selection during the PS update process for the new PS tool to appear.". I didn't uncheck the "Keep Preferences" and don't have the new tools. My friend is telling me to delete the new PS version from CC and reinstall and this time uncheck the "Keep Preferences". Must I do all this?
found my new tool at bottom of tool bar and not with quick select tool. had to find how to add it to quick select group. clicked new object selection tool and saw an edit option and then used that to move it to quick select group. I too kept preferences.
Hahah dang, finally those 90s styles are history. So these are the new basic ones for the next decennia ;) ahahah i always revert to blank on new install because they are all USELESS!!

@@photoshopcafe okay, now i have cc 2020 version of photoshop, but can you recommend me top 5 useful plugins for photoshop?
Those last two are the winners for me, brush rotation and layer zoom!

Great video addressing the annoying housekeeping issues on any major upgrade. Thanks.
Your tutorials are always so much clearer than the others I have watched … two thumbs up!

Rasterize is when you turn things like smart objects or type into pixels.

try going into edit > toolbar > restore defaults

i kept hitting control key and was like its not working. im on macbook its command key for me.
