I saw fishmans documentary movie last year. zAk- then a sound engineer for fishmans - was interviewed for the film and he said he shedded blood tears to complete the “long season” song. - great song needs dedication and sacrifice.

I see why people like the live version better but I think the studio has an essence to it that’s unbeaten. It carries a lushness and nature-inducing sound that nothing I’ve heard touches on. In my opinion I’d say they’re about even. They’re both exceptional for different reasons

I knew you would love the live version of Long Season. That song makes me feel wholesome. I can say with confidence that this is not only the best live album i have heard but probably one of my favourites albums of all time. Like you said, the amount of textures they add to a live performance is astounding and the second half of this record is just perfect. From the utterly transcendent Yurameki in the Air to the groovy psych infused reggae of Ikareta Baby and then topping it all of with one of the best closing tracks of all time with Long Season. Usually albums this hyped up especially on RYM tend to be really overrated and not worth the hype but this is an exception. What an album.
Oh and please do check out the video performance of this album. It's a bit low quality which makes sense considering it's probably bootleg or something but seeing the band having the time of their lives playing these songs is just so much fun to see. Btw Shinji Sato, the vocalist played the guitar solo on Long Season ;)

In the Air is my 2nd fav song off this album, just incredible. It’s insane how much better the live version is to the single.

So glad to see a western musician listen and talking about the album! I discovered this live album around 5years ago and crazy remain my fav live album but wonder why it don’t get a bigger audience. Transcendental is definitely the word.

Great stuff dude, will be interesting to see how this half grows on you overtime too. Would totally recommend watching the live performance, adds another layer of emotion imo. Also, might be worth you checking out some of the studio versions for comparison in your spare time. 'Smilin Days, Summer Holiday' is a perfect example of a track completely transformed from studio to live, and I think it might give you a newfound appreciation for this version of the track to hear its earlier form. Look forward to more content!

If you’re ever interested to hear some more of fishmans’ music, the album you should probably check out next is their last studio album, Uchu Nippon Setagaya. In some tracks, such as the first one, it reminds me of In Rainbows by Radiohead. Overall it has some pretty creative production and beautiful melodies
