This is while he's giant, but thanks to the square-cube rule, we know that his strength increased a lot less than his size when he became giant. Then Mario can do damage to enemies comparable to the amount Bowser can do. If Bowser can send something his size into orbit while giant, he can send something quite a bit larger than him (square-cube rule) into orbit while normal, and so Mario can, at a lowball, send Bowser into orbit. But wait, there's more! See, there is no mechanism for level loss in the M&L RPGs. Losing items and getting out of practice with special attacks between games, maybe, but at least some of their strength logically has to carry over to the next game. So, in Dream Team, they get a LOT stronger over the course of the game. How much strnger? Dreamy Bowser has the ability to control reality, and yet Mario and Luigi fight him on even terms. So we have Bowser, able to send something bigger than him into orbit with one punch, gain basically genie powers without a lamp to tie him down, and he augments himself physically, as well, in a couple ways. So Dreamy Bowser can probably send something much larger than Peach's castle into orbit. Therefore, Mario can casually punch a castle or a mountain into space. And this is a serious lowball that doesn't claim they keep all their strength from BIS-if we argue that, we're possibly at planet buster levels. And then Paper Jam. Another full game of level ups. So if we highball it, Mario could probably destroy a planet with one punch, making him compete with Kirby cracking Popstar in half. However, Kirby's meteor baseball feat still puts Mario to shame. Furthermore, since Mario does most of his damage by jumping, using his feet, his speed scales to his attack power. Bowser's Inside Story Mario can move at escape velocity, because he could send Bowser+ size things into orbit, and he gets MUCH stronger than that as the RPGs continue.
Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64 or Super Mario World I believe shows Mario at his physically strongest. Galaxy Mario is strong enough to punch Bowser in the face and send him flying, and he can even breath in space and is fast enough to fly from planet to planet. He even saved the universe twice. 64 Mario can break giant bricks bigger then him with his punches, defeated a giant stone with an eye ball with just his punches, grabbed and picked up a giant bob bomb and threw it, and grabbed Bowser by the tail and swung him around throwing him super far. Super Mario World Mario destroyed a castle to the ground with only his kicks and also lifted and threw a castle
I keep my fingers crossed for a Super Mario Galaxy 2 Remaster/port later this year,because Nintendo could Revive the games poorly receive Rate/sales on the Wii by re-release this missed out banger of a Mainline 3D title!!
Imo, I'm thinking the most powerful Mario is Smash Bros Mario because I know Mario from Smash Bros can/cannot be powerful but he has a final smash (which is powerful) but all Mario does is throw hands, use FLUDD (which is kinda useless), use his tornado attack midair, and use fireballs, including his cape to reflect attacks. So I think its Smash Bros Mario imo

Mario from the Galaxy games should've been in max imo, he has the single best feats apart from Paper Mario, like he straight up beat up Bowser who survives a black hole (Galaxy 2), a supernova (Galaxy 1) and might've even survived the universal reset (Galaxy 1 again), not to mention he's able to pilot the Mario spaceship which flies at extreme speeds. Paper Mario would still stomp him though.
