Friday Abstinence is part of Canon law for the rest of the year, too, but, in that case, the Church allows one to substitute some other penance. Father preached on Friday abstinence this morning. Several daily mass attendees had never heard that before.
@@carissstewart3211 Is it really? I thought that Fridays throughout the year were days of penance but abstinence from meat was just the default. I guess either way it's essentially the same result. Also, even if it is an obligation throughout the year, I don't believe it's grave matter.
Meh, it is if your NO is a reverent one. If most of them around are barely recognizable mass-a-palooza and you haven't got a TLM _in your country,_ then you start taking sides...
Understandable to a point. My parish would be considered a reverent NO; altar rails, ad orientum, chanting, incense, just altar boys, etc. I just visited a parish for a Baptism and the priest used the baptized baby to do the final blessing and then placed the baby on the altar. (3 weeks ago). Abuses still happen but it is important to focus on making sure reverence is in the Mass and justly pointing out abuse to the proper authorities (Bishop).
@@Memewhile321 we used to be a reverent NO but with versus populum, traditional hymns in vernacular, and communion on the tongue. Then they slowly started changing the hymns. Then they used corona-chan to impose Communion on the hand, "just for the time being", but I'm the only one who went back to receiving in the tongue, much to the priest's disgust. Now there's a band at Sunday mass with an acoustic guitar, three different types of percussion, an five voices that remain uncoordinated four years later. Some neighboring parishes have altar girls. Some have what I described as mass-a-palooza, with parts missing and lots of add-ons, like testimonies. I'm old school. I never eat meat on Fridays, Lent or not.
Us too.
The rule is still in place, check the USCCB.
Funny how some Protestants have no problem believing in the rapture but they refuse to believe the Bodily assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Abstinence from meat on Friday is a grave obligation in Lent so hopefully nobody finds the first one a hard choice.
Sometimes the day be tough so it can be quite tempting.

Every year I forget about it being Friday at least once without fail. Tend to make up by making it Saturday.
