    Thanks for posting this. I just bought one of those indicators for my son's CB500X. I ride a NC700X with the DCT transmission so I don't need to buy an indicator for my bike.

    Could you tell me what colour wires correspond to the red diagnostic plug. I bought one and it has to be connected to the plug that came with it. The wire colours on my indicator are Red,Black and White.

    Great delivery of the meaning of "F" ... I almost thought you were serious for a second. Very funny video... thanks!

    I ride a Honda CB500S 1998 and I looked everywhere for that red plug but I can't find it anywhere. Could it be that my motor doesn't have it?

    • @jasontollison2365
      @jasontollison2365  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a diagnostic port on the late model generation bikes. Older models don't have it.

      @@GuitArtChannelNestor if it doesn't work, search for other videos even if different bike. That's where I heard on how to reset. I've just ordered mine as I'm always forgetting what gear I'm in and have issues when in traffic.

    You didn't explain how you reconfigure it. I bought a bike with this thing, but it seems to be miscounting the gears and I do not have the manual. How to reconfigure it?

  • @orion310591RS
    @orion310591RS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    But what did you disconnected ?? Why it was connected at first anyway?

    I found out how to program this but start this on atleast 3 blocks of straight road to ride without stopping:
    Put the bike first in neutral-
    once you have it plugged into the ecu turn on the over-
    Hit the kill switch of your bike to on-
    The indicator should say L-
    Start your bike and from a stop shift into 1st-
    Let go of the clutch and ride in 1st gear while its flashing the number 1-
    It will then flash into a small letter N-
    When it does that IMMEDIATELY SHIFT into 2ND GEAR-
    ride in 2nd gear until its done flashing and turns from a number 2 to a small letter N-
    Then shift into 3rd and ride in 3rd gear until its done flashing and turns to a small letter N-
    Keep doing this all the way through until 6th gear these same steps and once you get to 6th gear ride out the gear till its a solid 6 and its not flashin a number 6.
    Then it will be program and done :) if you mess up while trying to do this and you get stuck at a stop sign or red light. Pull over and turn off the bike. Turn the key over and hit the kill switch on and then off about 6-7 times until it starts with the letter L. Then you can try to program the gears again. The programming must be done without stopping from 1st-6th gear :)

    You said you taught the new one how to read the gears? Did I miss something? Did you have to program the device first? If so, was it difficult?

    • @jasontollison2365
      @jasontollison2365  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Is pretty straight forward. you turn it on, and run it thru the gears. If it was difficult I probably couldn't have done it:-)

    I also have a similar cheap gear indicator on my Kawasaki Vulcan S. I
    made a video of my installation on YT. However, one of my viewers claims
    that these are unreliable and can ruin the motorcycle's ECU. This is
    what the viewer wrote "The port is the data port(similar/same as
    CANBUS/OBDII on cars) which also connects to ABS system and as cheap
    aftermarket parts sometimes do fail in spectacular ways(water ingress
    being a prime example where you could get 12v on the data lines, and
    have seen this as sometimes they convert between 12v and 3.3v or 5v, for
    the product in question) if the ECU didnt expect consumer use of the
    port(hence why its default state is capped off to prevent ingress), it
    may not have short protections on those lines(definitely no fuses), and
    by frying it you could throw numerous codes which could/would throw some
    ECU's into a limp mode(if your lucky) some will just say sorry not
    sorry, you no longer have EFI, ABS, or any other system" ... Are there
    any truth in this statment!?

    I've owned 18 bikes in 50 years, and never felt the need for a gear indicator....until I bought my 2015 CB500X. 5th and 6th gears are so close together on this bike that they are almost the same. I can't even tell by the tach reading at cruising speed which one I'm in most of the time. If this thing really works I'm buying one. Had to laugh about the "F for Fast Gear" part. And what's with that weird music? LOL

    • @jasontollison2365
      @jasontollison2365  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup I feel the same way, a lot of bikes and miles. Since I got the replacement it has been working flawlessly and I am enjoying it. It was a fairly cheap mod and easy to install. Note: It does not show a gear if you are not moving (uses speed to determine gear).

      I looked on Amazon and they have these from a dozen different sellers for anywhere from $4 to about $30. In the pictures they all look like the same unit? I think I'd be afraid to buy one of the $4 ones.....even though they are probably all the same....somehow $4 just seems too cheap, even for something made in China.....

    • @jasontollison2365
      @jasontollison2365  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine they all come from the same manufacturer, but I am with you and would avoid the $4 item.
      This is the seller I got mine from "waimaozhijia10"
