    Hey all! This video is currently demonetised following a copyright claim, which I’m appealing - so a like would be appreciated even more than normal!

    Patron here, this is exactly the type of content I want you to make because it's PoG and we still get Marvel down the pipeline anyways

    I just saw it, and fell in love. It is such a simple and happy movie but so charming. Surreal but nice lol
    I needed to talk about it

    Loved this analysis and the movie, could never explain why i think its such a classic (despite its flaws) and i think you’re spot on that its simply just lovely and funny and charming. The reverse realization scene might just be the next best one after that of him walking through the seasons

    I love romantic comedies honestly I binge watched a bunch of rom coms during the pandemic and Pretty Woman and Notting Hill was one of them

    “You said oopsie daisy.”
    “I don't think so. No one says oopsie daisy, do they? Unless…”
    “There is no unless. No one has said oopsie daisy for fifty years.”
    What? A hardcore Marvel fan can see other movies and remember lines from them too!

    I've never seen this movie, or even heard of it, but now I'll definitely go and watch it. My fiancee is all about mushy romantic movies and while I enjoy them, action adventure movies are always my first pick. So, thanks for giving me a movie to surprise my fiancee with!
    Thank you for another thoughtful review and I'm behind on your videos but I'll be sure to catch up! I love your videos and the variety! Keep them coming!
    Happy Valentine's Day! Or as they say in Brazil "Feliz Dia Dos Namorados" (happy lovers day)!!

    From the trenches of the hellscape we live in, love your analysis. Thacker's the protagonist right? His journey is to overcome his belief that love, real love, is barely possible, painful and it's proven over and over by Anna and his past loves? I was trying to explain this movie to a friend and found myself geeking out in my own analysis. Movies are supposed to have a protag, protag has a goal, metamorphosis, but did Richard Curtis blow those rules out the door because he's Richard Curtis, do you feel my pain and confusion : )

    You know, it’s weird. I love romcoms too, but when I watched this film last year, I could never really get into it. I tried to, and kinda was for some of the film, but I couldn’t get over how insensitive Hugh Grant was when the paparazzi essentially ruined Julia Roberts’ life. And then Julia Roberts is the one that apologised at the end of the film when I personally felt she was completely justified in getting mad at him. So I didn’t really buy the relationship. But to say the film is bad would be wrong, and I can appreciate the cinematography, acting, etc.
    Also you’re NOT a film student? You consistently analyse and speak about film just like any film student I know, and I am one. I genuinely thought you were one this entire time.
    Oh and I love the variety of content you’re doing, it’s great, I’d like to see more of this kind of video about other films.

    • @PillarofGarbage
      @PillarofGarbage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I think Hugh’s reaction in that scene is one of the aspects of the film which haven’t aged so well. Comes off almost gaslighty at times. But looking past that, I am very fond of Notting Hill.
      Really glad you like the variety! It’s good to know some people are enjoying the wider places I’m trying to take this channel, even if it’s not doing too well statistically.
      I studied literature, in fact! So perhaps it would be more truthful to say that while I’ve never been a film student, I’ve had a few classes / modules touching on cinema. Not a great deal, though, so I’m glad my analysis holds up from your point of view :)

    • @PillarofGarbage
      @PillarofGarbage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, that sentence is me summarising other people’s common criticisms of the film.
      And… have you been to London? It _is_ pretty absurd that this film’s cast is so monochromatic. That’s not a complaint, just an observation.

    • @dogpilespleen75
      @dogpilespleen75 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PillarofGarbage excuses. So you got upset there were only black people in Black Panther? Or Asians in "Crazy Rich Asians" GtfO

    • @PillarofGarbage
      @PillarofGarbage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dogpilespleen75 This reply makes it clear you’ve not grasped my point. Sorry, I should have made it clearer!
      If Black Panther took place in, say, Amsterdam, then yes, I’d say a total lack of white characters would be similarly absurd. But it doesn’t - it takes place in Wakanda, a mono-ethnic setting. This is a stark contrast to London, which has been extremely diverse for many decades now.
