Hi Andy, just put a set of flatslids,zzr cams and a Black widow exhaust on my zrx1200r, it goes really well ,but uses a lot of fuel, I call it Greta, good luck mate ! rugby aside.

Hi Andy, have to say the lights are making the footage much clearer and also hopes it makes it easier for you to see what you are doing also. Another possible advantage is that viewers can also see what is happening and can offer some hopefully helpful advice to point out any little differences in the specs as you described such as possibly the cylinder head is not original to that block due to the middle front bolt hole issue which is very clear to see and understand from the footage. Great work and hopefully your mob won the Supertaxis at the mountain.

My memory tells me the 850 had that 3rd screw up front as well, and a quick look at the parts fiche confirms it. I don't know what's going on there. All the 8v 1100 heads I look up have it too.
I have heard from a few guys that the gs1000g head will fit on an gs850 bottom end but thats just what i have heard.
The chain drive 1000s had two different heads. The older models had slide carbs and the et versions had cv carbs. Thats probably the reason you were given the wrong o rings. Older models also had points ignition while the later ones with the cv carbs were electronic. There was a difference in porting with the later models supposedly having three horsepower more. As far as I remember the shaft drive models were the same
But the 1000G only ever had one head. So I'm thinking the wrong part got ordered, or the wrong size was packed. Either one is possible. I once had an intake pipe delivered that was the opposite hand from what the part number on the bag specified. Three lefts and one right was not very useful.
On the video, the O-ring looks large, not even considering comparing to the intake pipe.
Another possibility is that those intake pipes are not OEM. A lot of engines used those Mikuni BS34 carbs, like snowmobiles and who knows what else.
Mystery solved. The manifolds at least appear to be off of the earlier models, ‘78 or ‘79 I’m guessing. The local Suzuki dealer has them in stock. I wonder if the entire head was swapped at some stage?
Its more than possible the rubber inlet stubs have been swapped for the "wrong" ones, i remember them being stupid expensive to buy new when i had some cracked ones on my GS
The early GS1000 chain drive models cylinder heads did not have a bolt at the front at the cam chain tunnel. I have a 1978 GS1000EC which I bought brand new in 1979. It looks like your bike has one of these earlier heads rather than the later GS1000/GS1000G heads.
Yes, you're correct. Thanks mate I figured it out after trolling through online parts lists for the various models. My local dealer had the o-rings in stock.

Andy ..Good to see you ...1980 on... Gs-1000g heads had bigger intake ports for the CV carbs...somebody could have put on earlier heads with smaller ports( for conventional carbs)

I’ve already sussed out that it is an early head, the local Suzuki dealer has the o-rings in stock. Yeah some people just shouldn’t mess with bikes 😕
Nice work Andy, maybe you should have said wish me luck earlier, then the mic wouldn't have died and you would have got the right size O rings, don't think you need any luck, just that other muppet needs lots of it.
These radio mics eat batteries, I just need to keep a closer eye on it. It’s not like I can go back and re shoot. In this case it wasn’t too bad because it was only me explaining the o-ring issue, so I was able to do that and not lose any real content.

Call me old fashioned, but i just grimace and pull funny faces when i see power tools used on fasteners on a motorcycle. Especially something like M8 into alloy castings. Regards Andy.
Agreed. In this case I had already run them up most of the way by hand and did the final tightening by hand.
My dad used to get squeamish whenever he'd watch me turn a wrench. Fear of the "what if" scenario running through his head. He'd slap my hand out of the way and yell, "Don't force it!" Then he'd grab the wrench and proceed to force it himself. I've had to forgive him his shortcomings as he's had to forgive mine, but I could wrench circles around him from a very young age. Bottom line, a power tool in an experienced hand is fine in my mind. I trust Andy has developed a good sense of feel over the years.
