The sheets for the mora knives are typically made to fit a serten type of carpenters pants that carpenters uses here in Sweden. That hole is made to be attached to a button on a pocket on those pants.
I will tell you about the sheath it's not for little people it's made so u don't have to have a belt It will snap on a metal button like the kind found to button jeans you can find them at any fabric store work pants in sweden have them on there pocket where we have a watch pocket on our jeans I found this very helpful because you can put one of these buttons on your pack on a heavy shirt or ur haversack on a jacket just about anywhere I called Mora and asked them that's what they told me now I just get a half a doz of buttons and put them on all of my gear P. S. thanks for the great videos
Here in sweden (where the Moras are made), the 511 is usually something you would find in a toolbox or at a construction site. Since they are about $4 (or 40 swedish crowns) its an knife that usually concidered "expendable". It's not uncommon that they are used for cutting metal wire or mixing paint and concrete and then thrown away. That being said, its not a bad knife by any means. I have one that is over 20 years old thats still in perfectly usable condition. The 2000 is used by by military who have a long tradition of using Mora's. They are used primarily as a utility knife though. If you are looking for a combat knife it would be the Fallkniven F1 that some swedish regiments adopted. Morakniv recently released a full tang option in the Garberg, which is at the very top of thier price range.
TexMex Yeah, its not a knife many users would bother sharpening. Same thing with the Hultafors line. Its still a good knife, but when you are working on the clock its just a prybar with an edge to many professionals and there is usually a big box of them somewhere on a construction site. I have a 511 in my tool box thats been going strong for 30 years. Its the first knife I recieved as a kid and its been through alot but it held up well.
I'm a bit late, but I'll chime in too. TheKimjoh560 is right. If you're a construction worker, you'd pick up a Mora at the hardware store where you buy your screws, nails, pipe fittings etc. You use it until it's dull, then maybe downgrade it to pry-bar duty. This is why you can clip several sheaths together, so you have one sharp cutting knife, and one dull beater. Or one beater and one of the specialized trade knives that rarely show up in bushcrafting videos (electrician, drywall, painter, etc). It's so inexpensive that it would cost more to have it sharpened than to buy a new one. A small business, like a ten-man plumbing or brick-laying company would not have dedicated sharpening tools, or want to waste time sharpening cheap knives. Knives are not the defining tool of their trade, it's just something they use occasionally. On the other hand, if you're a carpenter, cabinet maker or any other kind of professional that mainly works with sharp blades, chances are you have a tool roll with your grandfather's wood handled Moras, that you sharpen regularly and use every day. Larger companies buy Moras in bulk, with their logo printed on the sheath, to be used as give aways. My dad was an international sales rep for a very large Swedish industrial equipment manufacturer, and he always took a bag full of Moras (and EKAs) on his trips. They were extremely popular with foreign clients, so much so that they specifically asked him to bring more of them next time.
Instead of stirring paint with a Mora, how about going outside, using the Mora to cut a nice sized stick to stir the paint, then giving the knife to someone that actually needs a blade instead of destroying it? I'm sure that would make some kids day.
I can't get over how much value there is in the Mora Craftline lineup. Amazingly sharp out of the box as well. Wondering about that Mora hatchet... Sweedes sure make good stuff!
Bushcraft black is a bit of a rip-off IMO. For a third of the price you can get a high carbon HD and just file the spine a bit to make it work with a fire steel.
Not sure if you knew this but that tab on the one sheath, the little button that sticks out,its allows another sheath to attach to it as a piggy back. Just in case you might like that additional info. The Grey & White knife was in it most the video lol. I think its the craftline set. The red 511 will dangle from the robust. The hole in the belt clip fits over them tabs.
Another great review Chris ! You have gone deep into the Mora panoply of knives and shown which ones you like the most and other ones that YOU thought were O.K. The camera clipped to your hat did a really good look at them too ! I am not familiar with Boron steel but I look foreword to seeing what you think . Thank you for making this !
Very nice to see the old Swedish brand Mora reaching out in the world. Mora knifes has never been fancy, but very basic with descent quality at a low price. Nowdays Mora has a lot more models to offer and reach other cathegories of users and customers. Very good and informative video.
I caved in and joined the Mora club last night ordering a Mora Pro C! Can't wait to get it and try it out but im liking the look of that Mora 2000 too!
I just got my Mora Heavy Duty Companion in Military Green, 18 dollars. I am very happy with the knife and the sheath. As for your 511 sheath, its actually meant to be attached to a button on a pair of overhaul. The HD Companion I got today, also has the button mounting system, but has a good belt clip. The HD Companion, is 1/8th of an inch thick, and mine came with the spine ready for firesteel use.
Thanks for the very informative overview, Chris! I bought a stainless Companion MG in olive green and love it. Comfortable, light, compact and razor sharp. Added a 90° spine. Good to go! I really enjoy your videos, keep 'em coming! All the best, Rob
Love my Robust. I like that I don’t need a belt to carry it. It’s super light. It goes with me when fishing. When just relaxing at night and bank fishing at night it’s great for cutting bait, making a fire and sharpening the base of a pole holder. Simple inexpensive and durable camping/hunting/fishing utility knife.
Thanks for doing This video. I am now introduced with the Mora knives I am so impressed that I am getting one. Along with a axe and machete and hachet depending on what your doing this knife is perfect with smaller tasks but will take a beating
Thanks Chris. A good overview of the Moras. We have two as our companion knives... Mora Black for small bushcraft tasks, and my wife likes using the Forest for food prep. Thinking of maybe getting one of the 511s as a throw in the bottom of the bag spare.
the mora belt clip u see there is a hole up top it's for securing it in a button. we have workman's pants here that had a dedicated button for mounting a Mora, jeans type button works good for that . and the sheaths with the knob in front that's the workman's series so u can stack another mora sheath in front of another Mora knife.
I recall reading about the 511 sheath and it is designed to fit over a button. Something that might be found on bib overalls. Great video; I enjoyed seeing some of the most popular knives compared side by side.
Hey Chris the "belt loop" on the 511 is made for use with common workpants that have a button on the side of the leg that "loop" clips on to. And when i say common i mean 9 out of 10 diffrent workpants in Sweden have that button.
Must be a Sweden thing and why it makes no sense to us here where we don't have random buttons. Great. I love it when I discover something like this in a video. I STILL have people telling me that's an axe loop on the back of the Hidden Woodsmen Haversack.
On my 510s I cut the belt clip off like you, but then I use some 550 cord and tie a jug sling knot that sits just below the lip at the top of the sheath. If you tie the knot good and tight you can melt down the ends of the 550 and it is totally secure. It weighs absolutely nothing and makes a great option for a neck carry.
I have the bushcraft black. I really like it and is easy to sharpen which I love because my sharpening skills aren't that good. Also are u ever going to fallow up with the condor Dundee bowie review?
The Mora 511 sheath is for a typical jeans button on the leg-sidepocket of common work-trousers. No hokus pokus with that, simple plain a work-knife to be attached on work-trousers. It was not designed as a bushcraft knife.
Most of the Mora knives have a button hole in the belt loop. Many are not aware of that being a buttonhole. It can hook on your pants pocket or we can hurt hook on your shirt pocket turning it into a simple quick and safe neck knife.
I like the review. I've had Mora knives in my sights for some time, particularly the Mora Black. I simply haven't got around to ordering any as yet. This video is a very good overview of what to expect from Mora Knives. Because they are so inexpensive I've found curious and is perhaps the reason I haven't yet purchased one.
Start off with one of the $12 ones like the 511 Basic and use it. Then you'll be able to reconcile the usefulness with the low cost and you'll want to buy the BB. Only seen one broke and that person was batoning the back of the handle.
Try looking on E-bay there are more sellers - which usually means better pricing and you can see the Seller Ratings. I usually choose the Buy It Now option with Lowest price plus shipping when I search.
great video mate, unbelievable selection from Mora nowadays. It's funny you dont like the companion I love mine but then again they are the easiest to get hold of over here. Liking different things is what makes us individuals and human , it'd be a boring old world if we all like the same things, really interested in your take on their axe I've been on the fence not wanting to commit funds to something I may not like, but I am curious. Thanks again for sharing.cheers from Down Under
Chris just saw this video, the Boron Steel is good at holding its shape and very hard to cut through...but it tears with lateral pressure...just an fyi, that is a trick we learned in an industry sponsored vehicle rescue class.
Really cool to hear u say ur opinion on changing & always being open to try new things. Thats the only way to expand or grow in this life. If most people felt that way the world would be so much easier to live in. Great vid brother, thanks for sharing ur knowledge.
Nice info Chris, But i have one thing id like to add iv seen a lot of Mora reviews and the belt loop style on the 511 is not a belt loop it was made for a neck Lanyard also the round hole is used to slide down on to a button on your coat give it a shot let me know what you think
PREPAREDMIND101 www.hultafors.com/products/cutting/knives/craftsmans-knives/craftsmans-knife-hvk/holster/ in sweden everyone in construction get work wear paid by the employer. And all work wear got this little button and loop to fit it to/Cheers
No it's not. These are carpenters knives here in Sweden. As you say, those holes are made for a button, but not for your jacket. The button that you attach the cheet to is located in a serten type of carpenters pants that's widely used here in the north.
Love the video (s). What is the kydex sheath on the budhcrsft black. Great to watch you from down under, you are still relevant yo us hrre. Thanks. Krus Whitney.
Hultifors Heavy Duty knife runs around 11$ I think it is probably the best bang for the buck and has a much better grip and still has a guard for those who like that. Another cool thing about these knives is that you can buy blanks and make your own wood handles for fun. I've never done that before but after seeing some vids I might give it a try, and just a bit of work they look beautiful.
Hi,another nice video.Me personally prefer Mora 2000,I have it since 2012 and using it all the time. I think the handle of 2000 is more confie ,the gaurd on the Bushcraft it is in the way some times)And the stainless steel is Sandvic 12C27,and something more-just got Mora 2010, it is using the 2000 blade(you can see)but with the new handle. Actually 2010 was the prototype for Bushcraft Survival,Forest,Triflex,Force and the last one was Bushcraft Black and Pathfinder.Regards.
I have been to Mora in sweden and on factorytour for a day. They have a great tradition, very good value for the money. The make a lot of cuttingtools i never see on youtube.
European carpenters use the Mora knives like we use utility knives for every day carpentry tasks. I have Swedish carpenter pants that has pockets and buttons to hold and latch the Mora to. Cheers Curt Boyer
Chris - what do you keep in the Pelican case? I am assuming camera gear. I got one recently to put a gun of mine in - haven't had the chance yet to play with the peel foam to fit it just right.
Chris, you're getting more polished every day. Love these Moras. Can't understand how they can sell these knives so cheaply. Still wondering about the grind on the Forest. Is it any harder to sharpen on a work sharp than say a Companion? Thanks.
3:35 It is more meant for a carpenter, for example. A worker's knife. You can attach the knife sheath to a button. No offense, it's no Liberace knife and sheath. Greetings from Sweden
I own the 2015 Morakniv 511 and it's a very comfortable knife with a good edge. It's only stainless steel though. I like the look of the Mora 2000, the blade and handle look nicer.
👍🇨🇦. I have an old 511. It's car on steel and it has a lanyard hole. If I got a new 511 I would drill a lanyard hole in it because I think the handle is a bit short it is a small kind of knife.
I'm a big fan of the Companion and the, unfortunately absent from the video, Companion HD, which is basically a Robust in Companion colors, military green or blaze orange. The two Moras that I use most often are the Companion MG & the Companion HD in blaze orange; both have the carbon steel blades. I really prefer the blaze orange & black handles to the green & black handles -- I've never liked gear that hides from me in the woods -- but the regular Companion in blaze orange is only available with a stainless steel blade. My 'drop it in my pack & forget about it' knife is the Light My Fire model. It's not my idea of an ideal primary knife, no Mora is, but it's an excellent back-up blade should you damage or lose your primary knife. It doesn't rust, and it has a built-in ferro rod. It's also available in like a half a dozen different colors, and most of them are fairly high visibility and are likely to be attractive to younger kids. I like it as a kids' knife partially for that reason and also because of the fact that the stainless steel blade is fairly low maintenance, a good thing on a kid's knife. A Mora Light My Fire in neon green (with a slightly rounded tip) was the knife I gave my nephew when I taught him knife safety & how to build a fire. I haven't tried any of the new handles. I don't really like pronounced guards on knives of this type, but I'll wait until I actually try one before I hate it. The only Mora I have with a guard is the Classic 612 with the red wooden handle & the metal finger guard. The guard on that one is thin enough that it's not in the way, but I'm not not really a fan of the overall design of the knife. It may be the classic Mora, but I like the more modern plastic & rubber handles. They're stronger, a lot stronger, and, to me anyway, they feel better in the hand.
Hey Chris, I was wonder how many knifes you had because i look on the web for quality knifes and then come back to youtube and find you doing a field test or what not but if you can get back to me on that question and also what knife would you prefer as of chopping, splitting , etc.
Hey there @preparemind101 , just noticed you skipped one.... right in the beginning of the video it is between the light my fire and the robust. It seems to have the same handle as the companion mg but with a gray color. With Mora is that? can't find it on their website. Thanks for the great vid!
Just found your video on it.... "C2GFAB KYDEX: TOPS .170 Machete - Mora Robust Pro - Preparedmind101" .... Sorry to bother and thank you for the videos!
I love Moras. Good affordable knives. I'm hoping the Mora hatchet thing doesn't get stolen... I like the way it looks but want to see a review before I get one of those.
Nice way to lay it out there, i have a companion mg carbon, its a nice whittling knife, i lke it, but as a step up for use in the woods i got a bushlore, and i Can't sey enough good thng about it, if i could get the exact same design n 1095 or 01, id be happier than a pig in....ya know. Nice vid, thumbs up!
Thanks for the video. I have a few 511 models, only one is sharpenable, the others suck, can't be sharpened, don't hold the edge, ,, I don't know what is going on there. I don't think anyone is going to counterfeit a ten dollar knife. maybe they changed steel. The companion sharpenes and holds an edge, I am very apprehensive about going any deeper into the wallet for a more expensive Mora, if all of the steel is inconsistant.
I live in Sweden I use a lot of Scandinavian for hunting. In fact, most swedish hunters hunters use scandinavian knives. Moras are great. Only time I don't use moras and other scandinavian knives is when hunting wild pigs. Then you use better sticking knives like the Tops Wild Pig Hunter.
I've been seeing this knife around. Can you check out, test, and review the Japanese Hori Hori knife. Can it be used as a survival, shtf, and/or fighting knife.
Those sheaths remind me of vacuum cleaner attachments
steve witgen Electrolux vacuums are made in Sweden too....lol.
+steve witgen that gives me an idea.......LOL Well said
Better than The leather ones100%
The sheets for the mora knives are typically made to fit a serten type of carpenters pants that carpenters uses here in Sweden. That hole is made to be attached to a button on a pocket on those pants.
Takk
I heard these types of statements before and still a little curious about it. When you say disposable, do you mean like utility knives?
TexMex Yeah, its not a knife many users would bother sharpening. Same thing with the Hultafors line. Its still a good knife, but when you are working on the clock its just a prybar with an edge to many professionals and there is usually a big box of them somewhere on a construction site.
TheKimjoh560 If you cut metal wire or "stir paint" with a Mora you should be arrested. That's messed up
Instead of stirring paint with a Mora, how about going outside, using the Mora to cut a nice sized stick to stir the paint, then giving the knife to someone that actually needs a blade instead of destroying it? I'm sure that would make some kids day.
I can't get over how much value there is in the Mora Craftline lineup. Amazingly sharp out of the box as well. Wondering about that Mora hatchet... Sweedes sure make good stuff!
Love morakniv... Scandi grinds are my favorite. So easy to sharpen and tough as nails
Nice selection of Moras. Thanks for sharing.
The 511 sheath hooks onto a button. Typically the buttons on logger style jeans for suspenders. Works great. Let's you rotate when you unsheath it.
I guess that makes more sense than tiny belts.
Good catch
I am digging the Ora camp axe.
I wonder if it's balanced.
Oh man u said it , "the land of the free BECAUSE of the brave" i love that my brother!
Bushcraft black is a bit of a rip-off IMO. For a third of the price you can get a high carbon HD and just file the spine a bit to make it work with a fire steel.
Mora knifes ar proberly in every handymans toolbox here in Sweden.
MrTrim70cc what do you think of hultafors ?
Seen a couple of your vids but what's up with that cap, is tunnel vision a good survival choice?
+nuthn2do why do you care?
haha
😂😂😂😂
get em 😂
It depends of the sun, but you still can turn it around so it's nothing wrong with that. ;)
Not sure if you knew this but that tab on the one sheath, the little button that sticks out,its allows another sheath to attach to it as a piggy back. Just in case you might like that additional info. The 511 is THE carpenters knife in Scandinavia. Cheap, throw away knife.
Why throw it away? It can be easily resharpened.
Another great review Chris ! You have gone deep into the Mora panoply of knives and shown which ones you like the most and other ones that YOU thought were O.K. Just ordered my first Mora a few hours ago. New 511 for $8.09 on amazon. Think i got a pretty damn good deal! 👌
Mora's are so damn great for the price. Love my classic no. 1 will never get rid of it.

You may be able to use the sheath for several different knive. But you can't put several different knives in the sheath. There is a difference hatboy.
Kinda like his opinion, very curvey. Look at his current vids. Nothing but over priced nonsense.
It's a redneck curl. All my hats are just like his. Is what it is.
the mora belt clip u see there is a hole up top it's for securing it in a button. we have workman's pants here that had a dedicated button for mounting a Mora, jeans type button works good for that . and the sheaths with the knob in front that's the workman's series so u can stack another mora sheath in front of another Mora knife.

Just checked and the Mora 511, from your site, is now available with Amazon Prime.

i always wanted to see a review from you for opinel folding knifes what is the best for bushcrafting
Nice video. the 511 is hard to turn down. Will have to see if there is a stainless version.
+Strutingeagle Morakniv 546 is of stainless steel.
Thanks a million for helping narrow down which Mora I wanna get.
Cheers

Chris - what do you keep in the Pelican case? I am assuming camera gear. I got one recently to put a gun of mine in - haven't had the chance yet to play with the peel foam to fit it just right.
Mora 2000: Not military, it's a hunter's knife. It's made for light (non-batoning) bushcrafting and skinning.
Chris, you're getting more polished every day. Love these Moras. Can't understand how they can sell these knives so cheaply. Still wondering about the grind on the Forest. Is it any harder to sharpen on a work sharp than say a Companion? Thanks.
No, because it's the edge that matters. Those grinds aren't going to effect how you sharpen them.
I'm sure I can hear Predator in the background...lol.
Great video, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
3:35 It is more meant for a carpenter, for example. A worker's knife. You can attach the knife sheath to a button. No offense, it's no Liberace knife and sheath. Greetings from Sweden
+Blatta77
My G'd, I certainly wouldn't want a Liberace knife and/or sheath!
that hat curve is so perfect they should teach college courses about it
Really wanted to love the Robust Pro, but I hate the handle shape. The Companion shape is great.
I own the 2015 Morakniv 511 and it's a very comfortable knife with a good edge. It's only stainless steel though. I like the look of the Mora 2000, the blade and handle look nicer.
I got my Mora Companion for 15$ and I use it for cooking and it works great
Where can I get my hands on that holster that the Bushcraft Black is in?!?
Ric Castillo at godspeed tactical eBay Store. no one on stock tho. u might want to message him asking for 1. pretty expensive tho
I found the light my fire at meijers. Do you think I should pick one up just for a backup?
Hey Chris, I was wonder how many knifes you had because i look on the web for quality knifes and then come back to youtube and find you doing a field test or what not but if you can get back to me on that question and also what knife would you prefer as of chopping, splitting , etc.
try a kukhuri
love the videos man. I'm a fan of mora and your videos thanks for sharing
Have you ever checked out the hultafors gk heavy duty
Hey there @preparemind101 , just noticed you skipped one.... right in the beginning of the video it is between the light my fire and the robust. It seems to have the same handle as the companion mg but with a gray color. With Mora is that? can't find it on their website. Thanks for the great vid!
Think I found it. It should be the Morakniv Craftline HighQ Robust.... any comments on that one? Thanks!
Just found your video on it.... "C2GFAB KYDEX: TOPS .170 Machete - Mora Robust Pro - Preparedmind101" .... Sorry to bother and thank you for the videos!
on the forest and 2000 they are exactly the same except the 2000 has that avocado green rubber extra on the handle
What action camera are you recording with? Great picture!
where can I get the kydex sheath that's on the bushcraft black?
Have you tried the companion heavy duty? Thicker blade than the regular companion.
No I haven't. I'm sure it works fantastic. Just something about it that doesn't click with me aesthetically.
I love Moras. Good affordable knives. I'm hoping the Mora hatchet thing doesn't get stolen... I like the way it looks but want to see a review before I get one of those.
25:57 "One of the most fun groups on TH-cam..."
You done goofed, Chris. Lol just yankin' your chain man, great video as always!
Great video, thanks for sharing
Nice way to lay it out there, i have a companion mg carbon, its a nice whittling knife, i lke it, but as a step up for use in the woods i got a bushlore, and i Can't sey enough good thng about it, if i could get the exact same design n 1095 or 01, id be happier than a pig in....ya know. Nice vid, thumbs up!
How often do you find $15 under your couch cushions
25:00 Very good advice. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I have a few 511 models, only one is sharpenable, the others suck, can't be sharpened, don't hold the edge, ,, I don't know what is going on there. I don't think anyone is going to counterfeit a ten dollar knife. maybe they changed steel. The companion sharpenes and holds an edge, I am very apprehensive about going any deeper into the wallet for a more expensive Mora, if all of the steel is inconsistant.
walmart has the bushcraft black,w/sheath-55.46 . not a bad price
BudK Knife Company did carry the Mora Knives at a lower price than anywhere that I have seen them sold.
Is there a mora knife that is full tang and is stainless steel? I cannot seem to find one
Look up the Forest Lapplander,
Do you know which moras have an ambitious sheath? Could you share a list of which ones are?
Good review chris
When did the Mora 546 come out - it looks like a 511 with the new grip?
I live in Sweden I use a lot of Scandinavian for hunting. In fact, most swedish hunters hunters use scandinavian knives. Moras are great. Only time I don't use moras and other scandinavian knives is when hunting wild pigs. Then you use better sticking knives like the Tops Wild Pig Hunter.
Great video. Thanks!
Hey! Were did you get that sheath and pouch thingy on it???
Godspeed Tactical (kydex)
where did you get the sheath with the pouch?
Best Morakniv review, thanks!
Any of these good to use for processing game?
I've been seeing this knife around. Can you check out, test, and review the Japanese Hori Hori knife. Can it be used as a survival, shtf, and/or fighting knife.
Gotta get on us small people with small belts 'eh hatboy. Wtf you trying to make circle outta' that that hat bill dork.
what did you wrap the camp axe with?
