Recreating the Original Star Wars Y-Wing Model

  • Replicating the original 1/24th scale "hero" model for Star Wars' Y-Wing is no easy task, but eFX Collectibles has taken it on. With over 15 years of research, model makers have identified almost all of the individual model kit parts that went into kit-bashing the film model. We learn about some of those "greeblie" discoveries that even the original ILM model makers don't remember.

    Has anyone contacted Tamiya for the parts . Tamiya kept all their vintage rc moulds , maybe they also kept the model kit ones too.
    I like the passion and work Efx has put into the y wing . just like Master Replica used to be ..

    "The workhorse of the Rebel fleet. Not quick or flashy, but it gets the job done."
    Seriously, my favorite ship in the Star Wars universe. I hope they make a comeback in VII. They are by far the most interesting ship. It looks like a piece of shit but it's formidable. Perfect symbol of the Rebel Alliance.

    • @ThePandoraGuy
      @ThePandoraGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Polymerized Nah, it might be the workhorse of the Rebel Alliance, but we talking about a Clone War era bomber. In the time of the first Deathstar was blown of, the Y-Wing was outdated and 4 years later, it was finally replaced by the B-Wing. Maybe we see the succesor of the B-Wing in Episode VII, but not the Y-Wing, the last one of them might be stationed at some backwater planet in the Outer Rim.

    • @Aolian
      @Aolian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Pandora Guy
      It's a multirole fighter, the BTL-B from the Clone Wars was the only dedicated "bomber" Y-Wing, the rest are all fighters.

    • @otdoud
      @otdoud 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Polymerized There seems to be one in the newest trailer. When Ray is looking in the sky, it looks like a modified y wing.

    • @Astronopolis
      @Astronopolis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! It's like a shitty old pickup truck with weapons welded on, like technicals used by rebel fighters today the world over. Ugly, utilitarian, outdated, but in numbers formidable!

    Without the internet, making such an accurate replica would have been harder than shooting a torpedo into a "small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port". They've fought a serious battle with entropy and nearly won. Impossible without the Force -- the force of love.

    Respect for the attention to detail.
    It is however pretty sad that you can't actually buy the stuff. It is like the studio model that now collects dust in a private collection never to be seen by the public again as he mentions.
    4 years later and there is no trace of this thing on the eFX website.
    If it ever was available it was a limited run.

    • @SoloPhoenix

      It was the main fighter the rebels had until the X-Wing. With the introduction of the X-Wing, its role probably became more of a fighter-bomber. See the Hurricane and the Spitfire of the RAF for a real-world example, and what may likely have inspired it.

      People always call the Warthog ugly. I never got it. It looks mean as hell to me. Also, originally the plan (after they made the C block) was to keep them in service until 2025, but due to recent budget cuts, and stupidity, they're going to try to replace them with the bloated failing JSF project. If I'm getting shot at, I want an A10 on station (for up to two hours), not a flyby from an F35 to drop two bombs and run. :(
