One thing I really find interesting is watching this sport progress in terms of race coverage and commentary is watching a sport in its infancy figure out how to bring it to the masses

There can be a substantial cost difference for an east coaster to travel west for a race vs staying on the east coast. I think it is quite different than a west coaster traveling to a different part of the west coast/mountain west too. Unfortunately, a lot of runners looking to have their breakout race will miss the opportunity due to the burden of finances and logistics of travel for themselves and there crew. Javelina and Grindstone were 5 weeks apart? Feel like late September would provide much of the country with an opportune time to peak for a race.

The golden ticket brings pros which helps give strength to a race to grow. Most runners will want to do it because of that. It is same as Ironman. Black Canyon was not strong before the tickets. As I said before giving races such as Bandera 1 ticket is more fair. It is same as prize money but doesn’t cost the RD. The board should reconsider in future and not focus only on the western USA. The non Western races help train the runners of these big events the rest of the year. They should give back something

So is Hoka the enemy? As title sponsor of WSER and UTMB now they’re driving the homogeneous narrative between WSER and UTMB.

Bigger question without Walmsley becoming the signature athlete for Hoka do either of the races go Hoka as the title sponsor? If Jim doesn’t become so dominant does any of it happen?
