    Writeup & Overview
The KORG MS20 Mini is a faithful recreating of it’s bigger and older ancestor, The Korg MS20 at 86% of the original size!
This Monophonic Unit features a fully Analogue Signal path and a truly ergonomic, tactile and direct synthesizer experience.
Some changes from the original MS20 unit include the changing of the ¼ inch jacks to mini-plugs, the size of all the knobs etc and the introduction of a USB input to share MIDI messages back and forth with the unit and a DAW/Computer. (The unit also still features a MIDI IN.)
    1. CLASSIC FILTERED SOUND
As demonstrated in the video, the KORG MS20 really can create some wonderful, weird and very unique melodic sounds to suit a myriad of different arrangements and compositions.
A lot of the sound is down to it’s wonderful filters which can be combined to create sounds very quickly and intuitively and trigger inspiration on the fly.
This Sound Design at the source also has the added benefit of Mixing itself as the sound slots in very naturally to even the densest of Mixes!
    2. VERSATILE MONOPHONIC ANALOGUE TOOL
The MS20 can stand on its own as a powerful composition tool, as demonstrated in the video, and can also easily play well with others.
It’s great for supporting and reinforcing other instrument lines such as Bass and Melody lines or adding some other crazy filter sweeps or retro SFX in the background of an arrangement.
    3. THE BAD?
It was very difficult to find the bad in this synthesizer for this review. For what it does, the price point and the sound, it really is hard to beat!
More than being a bad point, for a lot of users welcome additions would perhaps be a digital patch/memory recall, a revised/simplified patch bay and perhaps some more waveforms or even polyphony. But this is just mainly wishful thinking.
    In Conclusion
Using just the front panel, even a beginner can start sculpting unique and powerful sounds and have a ton of fun while doing it!
If you’re looking for a great composition tool, this will be a great addition to your setup.
If you’re looking for a very precise and complex waveform manipulation with various synced modulation options for Film/Media etc, then maybe this isn’t the Synth for you due to its lack of recall and syncing of the front panel and it’s features to a DAW. (Excluding MIDI and CV Note and Gate On/Off Messages.)

However, I have had this unit for over 5 years and it is most definitely a staple in my studio.
It’s stable and study, has a great sound and due to its relative simplicity, layout and great price point, it’s a no brainer for someone looking to expand their setup. In short, it’s a real unique unit which has proven itself on countless records and generations of music.
I highly recommend and be sure to at least try it out for yourself!

That was the most bad ass synth work I have seen. Seriously man, I learned so much. Thank you.

A little tip to use eg1. You can use it with the vca to add lfo to a patch but make it fade in after a delay. You’d patch the lfo to the vca input, put the output to anywhere you want. You could patch eg1 into the cv in of the vca, but it’s unnecessary because the diagram shows eg1 is already normalled to the vcas control input.

it sounds amazing as an acid jam synth, would love to hear an example of you sneaking it into a chorus as a melodic tool too! And delving into the patch bay..

Hi, I'm relatively new to the world of the ms-20 and I found this video very helpful. I would be very interested in a video where you go further into detail about the patch bad as well as a video using the sq-1 along with the ms-20. Thanks!

[ Ativa Mobil-IT 7-Port USB Ultra-Slim Hub ] - never drops on me. ive tried a bunch. alot of em just shit the bed. powered, unpowered. you name it. im super super picky. i trust this. i have another Ativa 7 port plugged into it with a long USB cable and its in my live recording room where when i pull out a synth or 2 out of storage and put it in there for jams with musicians i can plug multiple synths in there right into the hub thats then; like i said: plugged into the hub thats in my control/production room. no problems for a few years now.

The only real difference in the circuit is that the MS20 Mini does have digitally stabilised oscillators like the Korg Monologue has, so no pitch drift like the original.
