Why I talk about being a gay Christian so much

  • Today I'm responding to a critic who complains that the amount I talk about being gay proves it's the most important thing in my life. But there's a reason LGBTQ people talk about being LGBTQ so much, and it's not because we think it's the most important thing about ourselves.

I love that you share about being a gay Christian. Hearing you was the first time I heard from anyone who was openly gay and Christian. (Also a fellow geek, so that makes it even better!) It's why I no longer feel alone and gave me the drive to find a Christian community not where I constantly talk about my queerness but where I am safe, accepted, and affirmed as my authentic queer self.

I found it funny when my already estranged father who is a pastor, told my mom that he didn't know how to talk to me because he didn't know how to talk about my sexuality. I told her he should start with, "Hello son. How are you doing?" I am so much more than just being gay, but he's never taken the opportunity to see it and now that he knows I'm gay, it's all he can focus on.

I am a number of things. I am a writer, an introvert, and a Translesbian, along with being Christian. Can I separate being a christian from everything else? Of course not. It's all part of who I am.

I’m expecting a lot of this when I go to my Christian university as an out gay man. Thanks for this resource / the clarity you’ve provided here on how to talk about it! And I’d appreciate any prayer (or extra advice?) you can offer! Thanks for all your videos.

Society makes us just our orientation so we internalize it and reclaim it because we're treated differently so why not own our differences?

First of all, Maniac Mansion is a fantastic game. This video is perfect. Way to use an attack to put out an important message. I think a lot of people can relate to this. I live in a town with a lot of racists and as a black person, I think about my identity a lot. Whenever I talk about it with the locals, it’s always terrible and feels like punishment. It’s inspiring how you’ve created/cultivated a space to talk about your experience as a gay person and how that intersects with your faith. 🖖🏾
