- As I was driving to a job in my Tesla Model Y a lady tried to aggressively overtake me and my lane. She ended up hitting us. Here is the dash cam footage i was able to get from the car.
Why did you feel the need to make it a race once the BMW went to pass?
Definitely her fault, BUT could have easily been avoided if you had not been cruising in the left lane or did not speed up when she tried to pass you.
Dude, you could have just moved to the right, and problem solved. why do you need to block her in the first place?

BMW fault for sure, but the left lane is for passing, when you're done you should get to the right as soon as its clear, which it was as the BMW had time to move into the right lane to over take you. Not saying its your fault, but in the future please get over as soon as you can.

Your job to control the speed of others. The rule is slower traffic keep right even if you’re about to pass another car. Way to many people sit in the fast lane blocking faster drivers, keep right at all times. If you drove like this in Germany you would be ticketed for it
@@sully1time actually, the "rule" is that the left lane is for passing which is why it's called the passing lane. It's the job of the BMW to control their speed and not run into cars in front of them. There's also another rule that says no passing on the right. But hey, let's try to minimize the stupidity of the BMW driver by focusing our disdain on the car that was actually following the rules.
@@danharrigan8880 I know the rules, the BMW didnt run into the back of the Tesla. the Tesla was cruising in the passing lane, no one next to them, Yes the BMW driver is an idiot, yes the Tesla driver is cruising in the passing lane, both have to accept that their stupidity were contributing factors here. See all the other comments saying the same thing, cruising in the passing lane!

Kind of agree with a lot of folks here. Left lane is used for overtaking not camping. Overtake then get back in the middle lane when it permits. Both drivers are responsible 70% bmw 30% tesla.
If by chance I am in the left lane and a faster driver comes up, I put on my indicator and move over to the right. I never camp out in the left lane like you do(except in traffic). You don’t know the person behind you emergency.
Sorry but your are wrong and are BDD&S. the Tesla did nothing to cause the accident and is not at fault in any percent. Driving slow is not being at fault and had nothing to do with causing the accident. The BMW swerving and hitting the tesla was the sole and only cause of what happened. Driving slow does not cause an accident. An aggressive or stupid person around them does.
@@ariip some states you get a ticket for driving slow, especially in the left lane.

All given to her when doing 10 under in the left lane? That's why you shouldn't camp in the left lane. That was totally preventable on your part.
While the BMW was 1000% at fault, don’t be that left lane driving guy unless you are actively passing someone.
I definitely agree. I was preparing to move over a lane, after the slow moving vehicle she almost rear ended , as we collided.
That vehicle was probably doing 60. I was cruise control at 72. 65 zone.
@@SilentPerformanceRacing Not saying the BMW is not at fault, because they are. However, if I was cruising in the left lane and someone approaches from the rear faster than I am overtaking the car to my right, I would have either canceled my cruise and moved over - there was plenty of room at that point - or sped up a bit to get by them. Dont make the person behind you feel the need to pass on the right. That is way more dangerous than just speeding alone.

She wasn't behind me for an extended period of time, there's no parts of the video missing. 1 minute 13 seconds for an altercation to arise seems very quickly escalated.
I would have definitely moved out of her way after I passed the slower car in the #2 lane, She was at 60mph if I had to guess.
In a 65mph zone.

@@anterpants exactly, i'm calling bullshit on that one. unless that avalon downshifted and reduced their speed by a lot, it was obvious the cammer was accelerating.

Easily 50/50 fault. Her for not checking to make 100% sure she was ahead of you before chang lanes, and you for unnecessarily speeding up to block her.
Your ego contributed to this accident. I don't understand why people feel the need to drive this way.
While the fault lies with the BMW for their poor lane changing decisions, you need to realize you aren't 100% innocent.
First, you are clearly camping out in the passing lane, which you've apparently admitted to below, so hopefully going forward you will know to pass on the left then merge back left afterwards. The gray/tan Toyota or Infinity in the lane to your right was far enough ahead towards the beginning of the clip that you should have been in their lane. It didn't look like you were moving at a high enough speed differential to justify being in the left most lane given the distance ahead. Again, this is based on the relative speed and distance at the beginning, not accouting for your obvious increase in speed.
Second, you DEFINITELY accelerated as the BMW was trying to pass (yes, unsafely and thus illegally). The road lines began passing at a higher rate once the BMW switched lanes and showed their intent to try and pass you. Though the relative rate to other cars also changed quite a bit, but those are less reliable reference points because they too can change speed, hence using the road lines. While this is, at the very least, an antagonistic move, there is no way to easily determine if your obvious acceleration played a part into the collision, but it cannot be ruled out.
Overall, the situation could have been handled better by you by only using the passing lane as needed (not as a travel lane) and not accelerating to further increase the relative risk of the situation. Again, while the BMW would be considered at fault, you need to reflect on the fact that you aren't 100% innocent of the situation either. Those who drive defensively will always fair better than those who don't.
Legally BMW fault, but don't act all innocent, you sped up to keep her from passing you. You could at least admit that much.

If someone is slow in the left lane, stay far back, as YOU SHOULD, FLASH YOUR HIGH BEAMS AND GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO GET OVER. IF YOU DON'T GIVE THEM A SAFE OUT, THEY SHOULD NOT AND MAY NOT MOVE. TAILGATING IS NOT SAFE AND IS NOT THE ANSWER. IT IS SAFER IF YOU ARE TAILGATED, TO NOT MOVE. SO THAT IS NOT GOING TO BE THE SOLUTION.

Driving slow in the left lane does not make the person hitting you at fault any less, or does not make your at fault at all even a little bit if someone hits you. Get a touch of reality people. DON'T HIT PEOPLE PERIOD. IF YOU DO, YOU ARE AT FAULT 100% IF YOU HIT THEM AND COME IN THEIR LANE. IF YOU HIT THEM, YOU HIT THEM. YOU CAUSED THE ACCIDENT, IT IS YOUR FAULT. DRIVING SLOW IN THE LEFT LANE DOES NOT MAKE AN INNOCENT PERSON AT FAULT EVEN A LITTLE BIT FOR SOMETHING THEY DID NOT CAUSE. DRIVING SLOW IS NOT A CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT, HITTING SOMEONE IS.

What are you talking about? The entire video has no cars in the adjacent lane. He's just cruising in the left until the BMW tries to pass him then he decides to speed up because it's "his lane". You even see him keeping pace with a Toyota Avalon in the last clip.
