    Some of the best induction sounds I've heard from any car, vintage or modern.

      Yeah, 3.0L Inline-8 (2.5L in the F1 version), mechanical fuel injection, desmodromic valve actuation - It was WAY WAY ahead of its time.
      Could sustain (according to Moss) 7500 rpm for 9 hrs straight, with only fuel stops and super short breaks on the MM 1955.
      Redline 8200 rpm. In 1955.

    This is like the Louvre selling the Mona Lisa. I cannot understand why Mercedes has sold this car.

      Does the Louvre have two Mona Lisas?

    • @morphyon
      @morphyon ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Technically there are some more versions of the Mona Lisa out of da Vinci‘s circle, although all with different owners.

      it‘s Marketing.They wanted the title „most expensive Car in the World „because Mercedes Benz want to sell more expensive and excusive Cars

      The smart move would have been to pull off a Jaguar, Aston Martin or Bentley:
      „Oh look what we have found in the back of this old warehouse (beneath one of Neubauer‘s raincoats). Alloy tubes for some more W196 chassis, therefore we will build x special continuation cars.“ Before you determine x, you do some research who would be ready to shell out more than 10Mil for such a car. Then you announce sub 10 cars, which are sold immediately. Or auction one to charity, or keep one to use more extensively on classic car events. Then cover the building process extensively over the following years, harvest the pr gains etc. etc.
      But selling one original off semi-silently… come on.

    I remember seeing finding a feature on Vimeo years ago where Simon was the first person in decades to be given the chance to drive this car. He rightly titled the video "Driving the World's Most Valuable Car" and I watched it over and over. It has been wonderful to see that brilliant opportunity develop into a great relationship with this notorious treasure of history, lore, and unbelievable technology for its day.

      Listening to an interview with Simon on collecting cars it sounded like the car needs to go back to Mercedes for maintenance and use in shows.

    At least, the sale of this car gave us this video to admire it. It shows a change at Mercedes Benz, they still care of their rich history but they value it less than before. It is no longer priceless.

    • @WeeShoeyDugless
      @WeeShoeyDugless ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 'priceless car' remains with Mercedes-Benz, the car Rudolph Uhlenhaut drove as his daily car in order to iron out suspension and any other 'tweaks' which needed to be made to the cars.
      That car will remain with Mercedes ad infinitum.
      And then you have '722'.........

  • @kimi88cz
    @kimi88cz ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Amazing sound! Anybody know who bought it?

    • @nelsonclub7722
      @nelsonclub7722 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The buyer of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé was an unnamed private collector, who agreed with the company that the car will remain accessible for public display on special occasions. The second prototype remains in the ownership of Mercedes-Benz.

    • @WeeShoeyDugless
      @WeeShoeyDugless ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nelsonclub7722
      The 'second car' is in actual fact the 1st car which Uhlenhaut used as his personal car which he drove to work each day and used it to perfect the design.
      That specimen is the valuable car and shall never be sold.
      I am of the belief that the number 2 car can only be sold back to Mercedes-Benz also?
      How much must Moss' 722 be worth with it's pedigree?
