- Former Canadian diplomat to China Charles Burton reacts to the Globe and Mail report that secret and top-secret documents from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) revealed Beijing sought to ensure a Liberal minority government and the defeat of several Conservative candidates in the 2021 federal election. 'If there are no consequences for the agents of the Chinese state, it would embolden them to do much more because they are able to fully get away with it,' Burton said.

How is this surprising when China has been caught having Chinese police officers operating locally in Canada (Ontario). Has anything even been done about THAT security issue yet?
My buddy who just immigrated from China 4 years ago renewed his Chinese drivers licence at one of these so called “Chinese police station” in Markham because he couldn’t go back. Why is this a security issue?

@@abcdedfg8340 The point is it’s not a police station….it’s used to renew certain Chinese documents that you had to fly back to China before Covid now they are making it easier for Chinese immigrants that are stuck in Canada for over 2-3 years but still wants to keep some of their Chinese documents valid. I believe this is very considerate from a government perspective.

Well, it's nice to know CSIS has a sense of humour. Why in heaven's name would China want a Liberal minority government. One would assume if they felt the Liberals would be kinder to them than the Conservatives they would want a Liberal majority government. Then there's the simple fact that engineering a minority government is pretty much impossible. You might, and I'll stress might, be able to get a majority by either boosting your favourite party, or denigrating your non-favourites, but the fact is that trying to engineer a minority government is well beyond the skills of anyone on this planet. As far as affecting elections I would say the USA media is much more involved, and for the most part dislike the :Liberals more than any other party. And their objective is a lot simpler, just try to ensure the Liberals lose enough seats so they lose their majority. And who knows, perhaps they were partially successful.
I feel all having a minority government has done this ho around is force NDP and Liberals to sort of work together. I don't understand how china benefits from things like the umbrella-ing and inclusion of trans rights in Legislation. And i really feel like any government who 'bows to china' wouldnt shoot down its spy balloon since, allegedly, without evidence, they are supposed to be aligned.
