      Turn Sprints into F1-R (rookie) series. One practice (Friday), Quali (Saturday) & Race (Sunday). Each F1 team has 1 rookie driver that competes in the series for the season. This way F1 gets the extra ticket revenue and fans get a new entertainment series and it won't ruin the regular race weekends. This also allows teams to have a 3rd car to learn from for the main F1 sessions so the work the rookie does would be extremely vital and important for the teams and development during the season.

      Tbh it's because we now breed people for it. Children have insane neuroplasticity, basically how much information you soak up and retain and can then use. people have started getting their kids into this stuff SUPER early and literally train them for that sole purpose.

    So far she and her family seem to have a very well established and thought out plan, it kinda reminds me of the football journey of Jude Bellingham: hone your craft, don't hype expectations and then strike to the next step when time is right.
    I hope she will also get her Real Madrid goal, it would be an incredible achievement for her and the sport as a whole

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  ปีที่แล้ว +15

      If she can get a season in Super Formula, or even in Lights, that would be a HUGE opportunity and in a series which is gaining fans internationally at an incredible rate after Red Bull's experiment with Liam worked wonders and is now continuing with Ayumu.

    • @andrewcarter9649
      @andrewcarter9649 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not convinced it has been a well thought out plan. Coming to Europe for junior racing if the end goal was professional international motorsport was the right idea but the weird non start of a low level US series and jumping around in Europe since feels really weird, that she's getting good results is a strong testament to her potential more than anything else.

      You speak like someone who isn't familiar with the series she's raced in, how she's gotten into racing in these series and never watched her race.
      Hideki doesn't have a clue how to bring her into F1 and a huuuge chunk of that is because she's nowhere near the talent level required

  • @54_ocram46

    She's still really young. She's still 17. Not every driver needs to be like Kimi Antonelli. She could be a great Super Formula driver in the future and probably get into F1 with Honda or Toyota (if they enter) when she fully develops as a driver (2026-2028)

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Exactly! She doesn't have to get into F1 right away. She had a muddled 18 months but this surprise swipe at Super Formula is a really big deal for her.

      WEC already has front runner drivers in GT3 and LMP2, in Indycar a woman qualyfied for the Indy500 this year, in Formula Drift the is also a woman, in Nascar there is Haillie Deegan in the Xfinity Series, in Dirt Racing there is Lia Block (who's now gonna compete in F1 Academy), Juju Noda could be in Super Formula and in Formula E there are already female reserve drivers.

      In a nutshell for you: Mclaren wanted to sign a replacement for Danny Ric so they contacted Palou, Piastri, and other drivers. Palou agreed signing with them verbally and waited until end of season. Piastri said yes and on paper too. So during that time Palou agreed to sign with Andretti and Mclaren said that he can wait if he still be part of Mclaren F1 team. That part of signing with Andretti and Mclaren made him kinda suing and had a friction not only with Mclaren but also with Andretti. That's what I remember but please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Her Boss GP podiums in a Renault 3.5 was remarkable even though as a champions it's just gentlemen drivers but it was a perfect rebound following the euroformula treatment and she has been testing the 3.5 in preparation. 2024 might be a bit early for a seat but tests aren't just about getting the drive. She definitely got this on merit when you look at results compared to others in the test. Your view on this being a place to develop so teams want her for F2 or F3 is spot on and if she does get the drive I would like to see her do a duel programme in Europe in the Boss GP or more likely the German Prototype Cup in the Ginetta she tested last week as this mirrors what others do with WEC. What ever she does regardless of getting to F1 as a woman or not she will be top professional driver for years to come. Her regular Autocar Japan blog is well worth a read when it is updated about a week after a race.

      What "treatment"? She was "forced" to have the car run at the same minimum weight as her competitors and not 26kg lighter. It'll be interesting to see how she does in the SF car, and if she gets a drive, even better.
    A video on the Palou situation would be nice, I'd be interested to hear your opinions on it.
    What do you think of McLaren partnering with United Autosports for WEC in 2024? Given that Zak Brown is a founder and co-owner of UA I'm slightly surprised he hasn't tried to put together something between them and McLaren before tbh. Mind you, there was Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris competing in the 2018 Daytona 24 Hours.
    McLaren's lineup for 2024 is going to be nuts:
    2 F1 drivers
    4 (3 full time) IndyCar drivers, plus they have their 'strategic alliance' with the Juncos Hollinger team, so that's another two drivers
    2 FE drivers
    2 Extreme E drivers (in one car)
    6 WEC drivers (between 2 cars)
    And in terms of backing for young drivers, there's:
    Bianca Bustamante in F1 Academy
    Ugo Ugochukwu in Euro F4, who made his F3 debut in Macau
    Gabriel Bortoleto in F2
    Ryo Hirakawa in WEC (though that one's more Toyota than anything else I think. Plus, he's 29, that's not exactly young for a racing driver these days!)

    • @LawVS

    • @dominicbarden4436
      @dominicbarden4436 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LawVS There is a veritable web of connections with other teams involving McLaren:
      United Autosports both through Zak Brown and this WEC partnership
      Walkinshaw Andretti United in Supercars, again through Zak Brown
      Andretti Autosport through WAU's connection with the team, thanks to Michael Andretti also being a co-owner
      Juncos Hollinger Racing in IndyCar through their 'strategic alliance' with them
      Hendrick Motorsports in NASCAR through having Kyle Larson run at the Indy 500 in a Hendrick-backed car.
      And also with Toyota Gazoo Racing through having Hirakawa on their books and McLaren's longstanding use of Toyota's old F1 windtunnel in Cologne.
      And that's without the teams their junior drivers are driving for such as ART (Bustamante) and Virtuosi (Bortoleto).

It felt intentional that she was racing with the same car this year and would be a good chance at getting more experience, and it could get the attention of one of the major manufacturers in the series, like what seems to be happening to fellow child of a former F1 driver Enzo Trulli.

    On one hand, seeing such a young driver in what is essentially the second fastest open wheel category in the world is a genuinely exciting prospect. On the other, it feels like too much of a stretch for it to be a good idea. Jumping from Formula Renault cars driven by amateurs to basically F1.5 ones driven by pros who could race in F2 is gonna be a challenge. We could very well have the next Max Verstappen on our hands or a talent struggling to develop in a cutthtroat series for a long time. This is definitely the deep end.

Would probably be good for her to race in a team thats not being run by her dad as well.

    Yeah, that Super Formula test will be exciting. She did well in Formula Renault 3.5 machinery tests which is (I think) closer to F2 and ahead of F3 in terms of power. Super Formula will be the closest to F1 cars you can get being more powerful than even F2. I really love how these cars look!
    Rookie series are really great as of late. As a Polish person who hasn't seen representation in F1 since Robert Kubica, I've been followin lower series to see young talents emerge. And lately there's been excitement around Kacper Sztuka, a polish driver who won Italian F4 without support of a big F1 team, beating Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari juniors in the process. Actually, after that win Red Bull Junior team picked him up and he's set to start in F3 next season in RB colors. That's huge, none of our young drivers made it to an actual F1 team academy in the past. He did all that beng sponsored by a damn sawmill and a local alluminum company up until now! Certainly a name to keep in mind. Kacper Sztuka. I have a feeling we might see him in F1 one day.

      Please read the whole comment before just hating what I say, because I believe I'm realistic, fair and reasonable.
      I never understood the not having a female in the car thing. I just can't believe or understand that if someone was with no doubt better they wouldn't put them in the car, regardless.
      Most modern Female drivers who are very good have done a form of testing or even just driving a teams car. They will 100% be keeping tabs on everything in those moments.
      The unfortunate truth is there is a physiological (or just physical, not sure if incorrectly used that word) difference and you're straight up fooling yourself to think there isn't right now. Which will change eventually, it's just got to take the correct time, funding, viewer mindset and nothing get forced to early and turn off people who are looking to hate.
      These opinions have come from talking to women aswell, not just something I think. My mum is actually offended by Tatiana Calderons runs in F2 and Indycar. There was also the woman the pink panthers had in the pits that had a fibre cloth and wiped the side ducts. That was it. It's stinks of "for the sake of it" which is damaging to the very legitimate cause of women trying to break into the sport. trying to force things in to early really can harm it.
      Womens football is a perfect example, it's quality and viewership is on a huge rise. But they then done a match of the best women's national team playing a team of NoN-league, retired, Wrexham players and lost 12-0. It's incredibly harmful to the cause.
      We have to remain patient and very supportive of whoever is trying. It will happen.

Euroformula for example allowed women drivers to compete with 20KG less weight until the Red bull Ring and considering this and the fact she was racing in a team built by family, the results weren't spectacular at all. Put her on the grid against F2 or F3 drivers for a season and she wont be able to compete at all much less Super Formula or Formula 1, in my opinion this is just hype nothing else.

Juju was the first female driver I thought that could make it to F1 because she had pedigree and has been behind a wheel since she was 4.

As she rises a true female talent should be supported by both teams and sponsors. If Domenicali and for instance Hamilton are serious, they should help with backing.
    And she should just remain focused on racing, let her parents handle the fuss and do where her talent is. An English course might help though ;)

    Rhis test is likely for a Lights seat and not for SF proper, but a good excuse to test her against more seasoned talents along the way. A shrewd move getting her in there at all if you ask me.
    SF is clearly faster than even F2 so the idea of jumping from where she is presently all the way up to SF wpuld be akin to Verstappen's F3 to F1 leap.

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would be happy with that, honestly. Lights would be a more prudent pick since it's cars since she is more familiar with. What gives me hope this is a legit career move and not a publicity stunt is that she's getting ALL THREE DAYS to drive and a dedicated number whereas Matushita and Lindh are sharing cars. If she can cope with three days of driving these powerful cars, that will be a huge achievement.

    • @LawVS
      @LawVS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed! That's why drivers in F2 should really look at other categories to either hold station before an F1 seat comes in or seek potential glory elsewhere. Giovanazzi and Ericsson being prime examples of middling F1 careers but excellent ones in WEC and Indy respectively.

    • @LawVS

      Oh yes, I never once say these championships are major ones; but they are experience at the grass roots level which is always important for any new driver. BOSS GP at least gave her a chance to race some Formula Renault cars and she obviously did well enough to justify a crack at the Super Formula whip.

    I'll repeat: the money spent on F1 Academy would be better spent on 4 or 5 girls under the age of 8 and climbing them through karting and F3 and F4. And my other beef with F1 Academy and W Series was it meant the ones who failed to win races and podium and miss out on the top 3 in the standings are off to the scrapheap. Plus the time spent in F1 Academy would be better spent competing in the actual junior categories. It's counter-productive gender segregation. And I say this as someone who's probably only ever watched 4 W Series races pre-pandemic.

    F1 academy is a death trap for careers. I think if women want to get into f1 avoiding that league is the way to go. I would like to see the series work. I think women shouldn’t have a separate league because that will just make them less important, especially in Motorsport where the gap between men and women isn’t all that big, just look at Michelle Mouton and she was driving group B rally. They can do it, and I hope to see Juju do well in super formula.

    She is now 17? The pressure is on now. She haven't much spare time left. If she qualifies for the SF seat, she needs two years of competition to gain at least 40 points. For this she needs to get third and first or two sequential years second place. Than she is 19 and has to do a 300km test to confirm her superlicence.
    On the upside, she is female and marketeble as the exeption she is.
