If you truly had absolutely nothing to do with hiring a hitman that killed your ex son in law, the moment this total stranger made any reference to the murder or about Dan or her or her children’s involvement, you would immediately start telling him to leave you alone, go away, probably even start screaming and saying this man is threatening you, etc. you don’t listen in carefully and go silent for over 20 seconds before you say anything to this man. She didn’t say anything because she was scared and caught off guard and didn’t want to say the wrong things to this guy that could implicate him or his family.
There is actually a decent explanation, so she really needs her day in court and a jury should find her either guilty or not guilty. She is given the letter, the undercover mentions Katie. So I’m her head she thinks Katie that dates Charlie she contacts Charlie to discuss it and he could have told her he was being extorted and that’s why she said what she said

Sherri kept saying something like, “It can’t be him, it can’t be,” over & over again, when the detectives told her they knew the score, and she continued pretending as if she truly believed they were telling her that her ex-boyfriend was the one behind her “kidnapping”.

Convincing a jury is more about optics than anything else. You need to present the appearance of guilt even if ostensibly so in order to do that. This call makes Donna and by extension Charlie look terrible. Shes sounds very worried and scared but any logical person would deduce if that were so for innocent reasons she would've taken this to the police immediately.
What if you're commiting some other crime like financial fraudulent and don't want to give the police the rights to dig dirt? Remember, at this time, it's clear to everyone that the police was SUSPECTING them and EYEING ON them, you DO NOT invite THOSE whose intention is to get you down, if you say otherwise, then you're a hypocrite! Regarding Wendi's "interrogation": When I had experienced a traumatic incident similar to this, I couldn't even remember what time I had gone to bed let alone anything else about that day. I was in shock and was gaining some sense of stability by answering the questions asked. I was too shocked to form any questions in my mind. I certainly wasn't as chatty as this gal. I struggled with every question. The questions themselves were shocking to me. It didn't occur to me for a moment that I was a potential suspect. She had far too much "presence of mind." Everything screamed contrived: her tone of voice, breathing, body language, "crying", her questions and her answers. She came across as a gal who is incredibly masterful at manipulating men. I am so very curious how she would have responded to a female investigator. Quite different, I think. (Are male investigators trained for this?)

Hearing Donna repeat “It’s not me!” felt like deja vu - I knew I’d heard that said in the same exact tone & volume somewhere else, but it took me a while to figure it out - Sherri Papini! Sherri kept saying something like, “It can’t be him, it can’t be,” over & over again, when the detectives told her they knew the score, and she continued pretending as if she truly believed they were telling her that her ex-boyfriend was the one behind her “kidnapping”.
Anyone who had nothing to conceal would have gone straight to the police. She’s a wealthy, well-connected, educated woman, yet after the ‘bump’ she’s calling the man who’s trying to extort her over Danny’s murder?? It makes no sense. And at the end of the phone-call, Mrs “You’ve got the wrong person” she says “I’ll get back to you” 😂😂😂
Obviously she’s holding that call to find out more. If they call me I said you got a wrong number and hung out. The only one innocent in that family is the dog!!

Convincing a jury is more about optics than anything else. You need to present the appearance of guilt even if ostensibly so in order to do that. This call makes Donna and by extension Charlie look terrible. Shes sounds very worried and scared but any logical person would deduce if that were so for innocent reasons she would've taken this to the police immediately.

What if you're commiting some other crime like financial fraudulent and don't want to give the police the rights to dig dirt? Remember, at this time, it's clear to everyone that the police was SUSPECTING them and EYEING ON them, you DO NOT invite THOSE whose intention is to get you down, if you say otherwise, then you're a hypocrite! It seems like have some shady money scheme going on in the family, but that doesnt mean they commited the murder as well! The mother was scared coz she's threatened by a GANGSTER, while not TRUSTING the police becoz they clearly consider her entire family "people of interest" at that time, I think there's nothing illogical about her stress! If the police already don't TRUST me being innocent, I'm not gonna still think they are good people to rely on, am I? 😏

He's looking at going to prison for the rest of his life for conspiring in someone's murder and is very likely going to be convicted. Implicating himself in a lesser crime would likely cast more doubt in jurors minds about why he's acting this way would be the obvious defense choice to me. These phone calls and their actions are pretty damning in my opinion.
But they both clearly say they dk anything and tell the guy he's confused N to go find the right person or go to police. I don't see anything wrong with telling a strange guy this even after he's insisting they know something they still say they don't know anything. So I don't see anything on the calls that proves murder. I'm sure the police/ fbi are angry that these people didn't pay or fall for their undercover jobs. 🤔 Nothing stands out in the 📞 to me . An Charlie was dating Katie still a little so nothing wrong with calling bk n forth to someone else especially if you really dk what the guy is referring to. They never admitted anything, never paid him . All I've seen from the state is speculation and guess work. It's rather pitiful case sadly.

Regarding Wendi's "interrogation": When I had experienced a traumatic incident similar to this, I couldn't even remember what time I had gone to bed let alone anything else about that day. I was in shock and was gaining some sense of stability by answering the questions asked. I was too shocked to form any questions in my mind. I certainly wasn't as chatty as this gal. I struggled with every question. The questions themselves were shocking to me. It didn't occur to me for a moment that I was a potential suspect. She had far too much "presence of mind." Everything screamed contrived: her tone of voice, breathing, body language, "crying", her questions and her answers. She came across as a gal who is incredibly masterful at manipulating men. I am so very curious how she would have responded to a female investigator. Quite different, I think. (Are male investigators trained for this?)

If she truly didn't know , she would have a Detective or F B I agent sitting next to her monitoring the phone call so they could then arrest said caller and charge them with extortion .
I would have thought "the undercover" would be meaner and a lot more threatening in order to scare them into talking.
