Hello @ETA Prime. You have some great videos that have really helped me understand emulation/single boards and just regular good ol knowledge. Keep up the awesome videos. From sunny Orange County California have a great day.
I'm definitely going to consider a SBC when my Shield is no longer supported. I am tired of having someone else decide what I see on my home screen. I know, there are 3rd party launchers. Those can be blocked at any time. I used to love those cat and mouse games with companies. There comes a time when you're too old for that. You jyst want to spend a rainy Sunday setting everything up and have it stay that way.
The RAM is a bit of an overkill. I'm hoping Qualcomm release a TV box with official Google/Android TV and the Snapdragon Gen 1. My Shield TV 2015 is showing its age. The CPU cannot handle AetherSX2
No idea why people keep saying "so expensive, i can build my own pc with that kind of money", well that means this is not for you. Funny because you probably have a phone that costs at least $400. You know what ? I can build a pc for that much money too!. Wait, i can even buy a used motorcycle for that much money. Different horses for different courses. When first developed, SBC was meant for development that could only provide a minimal space. Sure, you can even buy a much better android phone with that money, but can you have access to all the GPIOs, for example ? Can the wifi module support native development for ethical hacking, for example ? How do you run vscode natively without using anlinux or termux ? Your phone sure performs better, but i don't see how you can turn your phone into a full fledged, mass produced atari console clone. Chill, not everything is made for you.
Clean 4K 60Hz play back should be a minimum goal for the Raspberry Pi 5! I'm hoping they are using the supply shortage time to work on the design and hopefully come out with a banger.
Knowing the Pi foundation, likely not. Remember they are stuck using Broadcom chips which are not known for high performance. What they need to do is break the partnership and move on to better manufactures at least for a high end series.
I can't wait to see you testing the leaked i3-n300 and i3-n305 CPUs for emulation, especially as this branch of CPUs grow in core count. Should be very capable and very power efficient.
@@LivingLinux Thats 119 euro... but since that AM4 mainboards starts at 60 euro and there starting to show up many 3588/3588S systems I think most will be a lot cheaper soon or totally irrelevant. There are plans to use the 3588S in SmartTVs... so it's probably dead cheap.
Great content as usual. I'm looking to replace my nVidia Shield 2015 for something newer, but not for gaming or emulation but mainly for watching movies, TV (both streaming and local). Would it be possible for you to try running like Plex, Netflix and Disney+ or any other streaming service and see what kind of sound formats are supported somehow? Like does the RK3588s support Dolby 5.1, Atmos etc. Or would you be restricted to just stereo? I'm not really seeing any good alternatives to the ageing Shield.
No info regarding audio on their website, but it is rocking the newest HDMI standard which supports all the latest Dolby technology, including DTS-HD, meaning up to 7.1 lossless.
@@uncannygambit change ur tv? Most mid-range tv, have android based os and basic streaming apps. So... (Sorry for my bad english. Its not my mother tongue 😅😰)
Great overview. Looks like a great SBC for SD systems. A little pricey though. I was reading through the comments and saw the NanoPi R6S mentioned and would love to see you review it if you weren't already planning to :)
Thanks for the great info it looks similar to The Rock 5B. The RK3588S is a scaled-down RK3588 with fewer features for more affordable SBCs. does that mean Rock 5B is more superior?
hahaha just when I was wondering when were you gonna release a video showing Android's performance on this board, jeez TH-cam really does read your mind 😅, All jokes aside I was actually hoping that you'd be testing a bit of Citra and Skyline as well
Hey there, I really like your videos and you are becoming one of my first channels to check daily so thanks!!! I am looking for SBC arm based and I'm really confused what is the absolutely best one in process power to choose knowing that I'm going to run android 12 and use it for all streaming + emulation? Your advice will be taken for sure as you tried a lot of them. I'm between mekotronics R58X ,firefly or khadas? Or anything that beats these ones on android 12 Also what do you think about Tencent Aurora Box 5Pro as it is there already but I don't see anyone really on TH-cam reviewing it?
Different horses for different courses, though. Vega 8 would not do well in running arm-v8a commands, just as mali would not do well in x86. If you're looking for a board to run android on, this will be better option. Otherwise, stick with the ryzen one.
But there are also x86 minipcs with similar performance and price point…? Like the pentium silver n6005 In the nuc11 essential? How does it compare to something like this?
Doesnt a SCOM ( single cable operation mode ) restricts using the board with Displays with lower power output. So wouldn't having two separate Type Cs with one of them being full featured a better option?
Could this unit get google chrome installed on it and run good, I’m just looking for work emails and surfing with some video playback or would you recommend a mini pc. I seen some of your mini pc vids but not trying to invest too much into work in case some other employees decide they needed my mini pc more than idid
Why haven't we seen this with a more powerful CPU, like the snapdragon 865 or higher? I feel like the overheating issues of an 888 or 8 gen 1 would be nothing versus a decent fan and heatsink, you could even keep it contained in a mini PC case with plenty of room to spare. Overall I'm excited for windows 11 to become more stable, I'd love to see a mini PC with an 8 gen 2 running windows 11. That'd be really awesome
8 gigs would be sufficient but 4 gigs will not. Gpu and cpu in SOC is basically like APU. Your ram is also shared as a Vram for the graphics. And with android being such a memory hogging OS, also Vram shared with Ram, 4 gigs would definitely drop the graphics performance by a big margin.
the only thing is that the 3588 is already old and new better arm will be out pretty soon - v likely - arm does not have much roadmap guidance which is too bad for them - they are lost on that point and need to get much more aggressive with sbc forward guidance
So if these actually get sold in NA without import license then this will destroy the Nvidia shield? The latest updates and gone done what apple did to older phones.
Psp performance seems surprisingly weak, thought this should breeze through 4x/5x even for stuff like God of War. Is this a step up from SD 845? Same or maybe even slightly weaker?
$340 for this level of performance seems a bit much. I get that it's small and compact but I feel like you're builds with cheap PCs have more appeal at the same price than this thing.
Genshi Impact does have controller support, you have to enable it in the settings, at least it worked on my xbox controller roughly 1 year ago, didn't test it now. You just have to activate it or else it won't work.
This is what I would imagine the pi5 to perform like
That would be awesome but I’m thinking we won’t see this kind of performance from it.
