Dear Mac, I would like to publicly thank you for what you are doing. If I had to choose one reason why I keep watching your channel for years now is INTEGRITY. You don't sell out to publishers, you don't accept handouts for good reviews. You say what is in your heart and support it by the bell ;) (love it BTW) In my opinion integrity is the core trait that every reviewer should exhibit, and it is unfortunately in short supply nowadays. I wholeheartedly support your point of view that publishers have monetized the gaming industry to the point of obscenity and enslaved developers into servitude by promoting their games. I applaud indie developers for standing against this rotted practice and trying to put out their products out to public themselves. And I applaud to you for reviewing their games and giving them a voice and a chance to survive in this unfair business world. Please keep doing what you are doing and stay true to your beliefs. Oh the new Frost Punk game. Last time i frozed all these little ungrateful bastards to death. They've might even developed a cannibalism before that, I don't remember exactly.
I have the problem with games from 11bitstudios and I don't agree it happens in every strategy game. For example take the Paradox Studio grand strategies. You can mostly get yourself out from the shitty situation and take lesson from that so you can play it much better with another country/fraction with very different experience because of the genuine set up of it. While in Frost Punk there is this mostly one way of solution, the one developers choose to be the most efficient and you just play it over and over again or seek for tips on the web to find it. Maybe it's not that much because I managed to survive the main scenario in Frost Punk with about 480 people without producing automations and skills in buildings and whatever else possibly mechanics there are... but after I accomplished it I didn't really feel like I want to play it again on harder difficulty in the much more efficient way, it gets boring after you know that you will send your scouts to the same spots, the same events occurs etc. and the overall mechanics of the gameplay isn't really that complicated, it takes few hours to understand it. It's like puzzles you finished but you were really clunky doing it because of the first approach and you are a bit frustrated you didn't do it better but that's not fun any more to replay it. Their games are like one time stories for me, mostly frustrating because not so intuitive to play as you think, yet not so interesting to force me to learn how to play it efficiently. It could be so much better with procedurally generated world and much more events to happen during the gameplay but I guess it makes a shitload more effort to make such a game.
Frostpunk is great shows how easily it is to take the easy way out and how minor inconveniences can snowball into tyrannical oppression
The whole lack of true freedom or multiple solutions thing was what's bothering me about the original game already. It's not a strategy game. It's a management game and kind of works more like a linear puzzle game. We see this more, with these 'survival RTS' games. Definitely not my cup of tea. I hope we'll see a reinvention of classic real management RTS games like Republic. Only series still half decent is the Tropico series, but that's fairly linear too.
Absolutely loved it, took me like 20hrs to get it right properly. Also, have a look at the achievements on steam and you can see there are indeed many ways to finish the game. you can also side with either the workers or engineers which further changes the direction. For me this was truly epic and the best DLC ive ever paid for. Its inexpensive, support the studio if you enjoyed the game :D I definitely loved it. It was much more difficult than the original.

The video capture is barely legible and is a blurry mess. Not sure if this is just youtube compression, but was a shame regardless. Mack you should consider a higher resolution for your renders, even if the game is only rendering at a low resolution like 1080p.

I can understand that Mack, the whole 'neccessary measures in extreme situations'. You learn that if they people are not willing to compromise withyou - an iron hand is needed. It's about survival and if the people won't comply and ensure the survival of the city as a whole.... You have to MAKE them compliant. It sucks and I've had to do that as well in Frostpunk and you feel BAD once you get to see all the bad shit you had to do to ensure the survival of the majority.

I reckon if you were to rebrand and get rid of your red / green colours and your small intricate logo your channel would grow faster. I'm surprised you're not at 1m subscribers yet. Have a look at some of the top gaming channels. As wanky as they are, their logos and backgrounds are pretty crisp with neutral colours. Or don't... It would be a bit of a ball ache

I got the same feeling with this one. If you do not go down checking the boxes in order as the dev's intended it went to trash and did not leave any room for a unique approach.

On my first playthrough I went in completely blind after having played thru the main game and played this iron mod which was a mistake and a good idea.
It was punishing and I have made multiple flawed decisions, yet I barely made it thru in the end having become an absolute monster yet surprisingly few people died in the end.
This was the tightest play I've ever had.

@@WorthABuyreviews Maybe just wait for the servers to come online, also an issue a lot of people noticed... turn your mouse refresh rate down to 125 or you will have ton of fps drop.. it makes the game unplayable.
Did you ever manage to build that generator without being a b-stard Mack? I'm still struggling with base game lol. Even with all coal mines set up and automatons working 24/7 as well as 2 coal thumpers working away I still don't have enough Coal to last more than a day lol. I noticed in your video on base game the Steam coal generators so maybe that's the answer rather than sticking with coal thumpers.
Also it's a shame you can only assign one automaton to each task as supply is not the issue anymore but collection speed is.

The only thing pushing Frostpunk away from the best city builder strategy game in the last 10 years has to be the fact that there are no custom modes for modders to have fun! they could come up with so much cool shit.

Frostpunk was a breath of fresh air, but frustrating as there was literally only one way to play the campaign, you had to follow one building structure (yes I know they had two sides to everything) but the build order was always the same, and thus there was little replay value.

The main pull of Frostpunk for me was the emotions it evoked. I'm not sure I want to play a "prequel" expansion where I already know what happens next. It's just depressing.

Similarly when I played the first one I became something I'm not. I felt sorry for all the migrants so I let them in until there was no food left. Great game that shows you something new about yourself.

This. Why pay 3/4 price for 1/4 of the content as compared to the original purchase, at least for myself.
Also, I don't care if it's cheap compared to the full release price: that would be an even worse deal (2 levels for 40-50$ I think, get real).
I love this levels look and it's lore-filling position, but I expected WAY more for basically buying the game again...
The first DLC is free, the last one you get also for free, if you purchased season pass. That is amazing compared to most other publishers. Most of them rip you off 20x as hard. This is more than 'one level' it is a story. Last week the new DLC came out, so you get that 'story' for free. Next to this you can build your gen and play onwards in one of the continuous modes. So really worth the money.
