I know the feeling. I fought what I thought was a giant catfish in a muddy river for over 45 minutes... could feel it fighting, stripping line off the reel. It turned out to be a folding camp chair that was opening and closing in the river current.
I was fishing off the airplane float dock in pelican Alaska. Around the age of ten using a little scooby doo fishing pole . I thought I had gotten my treble hook caught on a stump or some sort of tree under the water turned out. It was a 30 pound king salmon the next day I woke up and every single boat in the harbor was out fishing. 😂
We lost a world where my children will grow up with Steve Irwin but Forest is just as amazing and important as the man himself. I'm so happy my children have you to learn from about these animals. I introduced them the the croc hunter and they love him and I have also introduced them to Forest and they love him even more.....thank you sir. My children and I bond over your videos and they always search to see if you've found a new animal or rediscovered an extinct one ❤
The fact that forest doesn’t have millions of subscribers/followers should be an actual crime .. guy is an absolute legend. When it comes to conservation or education Forrest is an absolute pioneer in either field. His education will effect generations and for that we thank him !!
What a terrific story honestly 😂 I had the opposite happen once. Was hooked onto what I thought was a log. So very carelessly reeled in. Got it to the boat just in time to see the lake trout of a lifetime bust off it 5 ft from the bow
🤣🤣🤣 that’s the best fish story I’ve ever heard! I was convinced you were gonna pull up a sleeper shark while trying to catch bait to catch a sleeper shark, what a plot twist!
Best fishing show story ever! It takes.a.real fisherman to admit to a mistaken catch. With all the success stories I have seen with you and your buddies, good to see you be able to laugh at yourselves. It shows real character! Fish on!
Such an awesome, great story Thanks so much for posting. Can't believe I waited so long to watch. Forrest, you are now legend to me, not just because you share a first name with my grandpa, but also because of your courage. Good on you!
You said Embarrassing... So I am in the North East in Ct. One year me and dad decide to take the boat out to do some Blue Fish Fishing... Well We decide what better way to catch them then to troll for Bunker... And well... We cruising along out the harbor with the lines down and trying to snag what ever bunker we could because they are already fleeing the blues in the harbor. At some point dad decided to stop and just cast out one of the troll hooks and starts reeling in fast and crazy. We were ahead of the school trying to get away from the blues. Its like his third or fourth cast, I am busy trying to keep the boat about center like dad told me when off to my right I hear this EXTREMELY LOUD squawk... Expecting to see a Gull getting attacked by the Blues... What I saw was WAY WORSE then the blues attacking some bird... This poor bird saw my dad cast the line and instead of going for a fish it went after the weighted tri-hooked tackle... AND DAD SNAGGED IT right in the wing about fifty feet from the boat. This thing was not happy and showed it after we got it in the boat... It attacked both of us, pecking like a psycho bird and trying to bite us, in the struggle to calm it down it had gotten tangled to the point that it could no longer do a damn thing other then bitch and complain at us. I threw my coat over it, let it sit for a second so it would chill but it was still Griping up a storm. We get the snagged wing out of the coat and see what type of damage this poor bird got and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT... THIS BIRD WAS ONLY TIED INTO THE LINE, Not one of the three hooks touched it. So after getting this bird untied, and putting it on the bow... IT REFUSED TO LEAVE... We spent all day tossing bunker to the fricken bird and NEVER CAUGHT A DAMN BLUE FISH. Only Skates and one Sand shark pup... ALL THROW BACKS which the Gull laughed at us every time we threw a fish back... It didn't leave the bow till we hit shore again. I swear it purposely dove on the line JUST for the free meal... LOL!!!
Years ago in backcountry , during heavy snow storm, about five wolverines(!!) ran out of the woods and started playing, rolling in the snow, we watched them for a good 44 min enjoy the snow, surrounded by trees of bald eagles above us. One of this w special memories you spoke of.
Forrest, ever since I stumbled upon you're Joe Rogan podcast, I have absolutely fallen in love with everything that you have to do with the internet. Your content is outstanding and you need to be back on Joe Rogan ASAP. Thank you sir
I once saw with my own eyes , a buddy of mine got his rod pulled in the water by a fish and then an hour later he caught the rod with the fish still attached to the end of it
Thank you for all you do for the animal kingdom man and the entertainment you provide along the way your an amazing person and me and mine appreciate you
As a kid I was in the Bahamas and I watched my dad hook something massive. He fought it for over 2 hours. The crew had harpoons ready for it to be a shark. Turns out he hooked a rope attached to an anchor that fell off a boat and was dragging on the bottom fighting him the whole way
I've got a funny fish story. Maybe not as funny as this one, and it certainly didn't take an hour lol. When I was a kid, we used to go fishing for rainbow trout all the time at a local stocked lake. It was a really big lake, and there had been some massive rainbows pulled out of it. My dad cast out his hook, and he was taking the slack out of his line when something took the rod so hard, it almost ripped it out of his hands. Most of the fish we caught were 2-3lbs, so Dad only used 8lb test. He turned the drag down, and fought with that fish for several minutes. The whole time that rod tip is bent way down, and he's fighting pretty hard to get this fish to shore. He's talking about how this must be Moby Dick's cousin, and all of us kids were gathered around, super excited to see this huge rainbow trout my dad was reeling in. He finally gets the fish to shore, and it pops out of the water. What does he have on his hook? A little 5 or 6 inch trout that he had somehow managed to catch by the fucking TAIL! The fish must have swam past the hook while he was taking up the slack, and managed to get hooked! That was probably close to 30 years ago and we still laugh about the time dad caught Moby Dick's cousin 🤣🤣
I used to offshore fish off St. Augustine, FL. 55 mile run each way to bluewater. While trolling if someone on the boat fell asleep we would take a heavy rod and put a 5 gallon bucket on the line, send it over and let out about a 100 yards of line. As it's deploying turn on the clicker and wake up the sleeper and and yell big fish, and put him on the rod. The look on their face when they see the bucket is always a blast.
My dad was fishing a match on the river severn here in the UK back in the 70s, it was a very slow winters day which looked like it might be won with a pound of bits because nobody was catching. As he's running the float down the current for the hundredth uneventful time that day he sees the first sign of life as the float dithers then dips under. "Great!" he thinks as he strikes into something feeling contact and the rod hoops over which is shortly followed by "Uh oh" as the rod keeps bending and he realises he's hooked into something way bigger than his gear is designed to deal with. Being an experienced angler he knows it's an endurance game if he's going to win, just enough pressure to tire the fish without breaking the light line, one decent fish could easily win the contest. He's playing it for about half an hour and is now surrounded by everyone who was fishing on the stretch within half a mile who are all thinking the same thing, it's got to be a big barbel. The fight goes on for another 15-20 mins and he's winning by inches, the crowd of about 30 other anglers are cheering him on while calling side bets until it finally breaks surface and he's hooked a plastic compost sack 😂
This was great! We have all been there. Spend enough time in the outdoors and crazy things happen. Great you can laugh about it because at that point you can't even be mad. Great video! I think you have found something here Forrest. You are a hell of a story teller and your great in front of the camera.
I spit on myself laughing lmao, you can’t keep this type story from us Forest!! Lol we all have had a moment like this in life lol, it may of not been fishing but we have all had something stupid happen lol
Not as absolutely hilarious as this fishing story, but on a day fishing Pike in the Swedish archipelago with my friends i hooked a Big fish and what would end up beeing the strangest "fish" we had ever seen/caught. It started out as an actual monster pike absolutely crushing my huge swimbait and we battled a solid 5-10min before almost reaching the side of the boat she dove straight down into the depths. Me and the boys in the boat cheered as she seemed to finally have given up and we started to finally gain and could reel the fish back up from her deep dive. The cheering from me and the boys thinking this would 100% be a new "PB" pike for me went dead silent as when the fish FINALLY reached the surface, The fish that we had seen with our own eyes , battled with for now maybe 15-20min now infact was not at all what now appeared beside the boat and on the end of my fishing-line. What instead came up from the depths was a huge white door from a giant FRIDGE/Freezer????? something that we will always be remembered between us in the boat
OH MY DEAR LORD. THIS IS THE BEST FISHING STORY I HAVE EVER HEARD! LMFAO! Bless your heart Forrest for sharing it with us. You really are the friggin man! Lots of love from Northern Ontario, where the fishing is legendary... but not as legendary as this.... lmao
Forest we once fought a “fish” for an hour off key west only to find out it was an underwater cable haha. Funny enough, our anchor also hooked another underwater cable much bigger talk about several hours of fun haha😅
Yes Sir That's a story that needs to be told for many reasons, not the least being it's funnier than heck and is really a semblance of life in general sometimes.
I hooked a log while anchored fishing for catfish at night. I fought that thing for 45 min just to have my dad laugh at me when it finally got close enough to see. We call them stick fish 😂
My longest and hardest fight was this last summer when I hooked a a chair at a 65 foot depth and hauled it up on an old Penn sea scamp which has no drag or anti reverse.
I know the feeling. I fought what I thought was a giant catfish in a muddy river for over 45 minutes... could feel it fighting, stripping line off the reel. It turned out to be a folding camp chair that was opening and closing in the river current.
Omg that's too funny, I'd love to have seen that😄
Amazing! I thought I had a musky and turned out to be a log after about 30 minutes!
🤣😪

In all honesty, who would have ever guessed you threaded a needle and hooked your own bait bag and that the force you were feeling was the current. 😆
Love you forrest!!!!!

the wildest part is that the jig managed to find that tiny little loop in the line
Where’s the shark tee from, cool design?
lol That’s brilliant 😂 It’s always amazed me how many random messed up incidents manage to happen just sitting still fishing
So entertaining. Can't imagine how hilarious is must have been to have been there and fought the bag for almost 2 hours.
Yes Sir
That's a story that needs to be told for many reasons, not the least being it's funnier than heck and is really a semblance of life in general sometimes.
The picture silhouette looks like a goldfish. Don’t tell me you got a goldfish monster.😂lol
The biggest largemouth I ever hooked turned out to be a sock half filled with sand. Shad Rap. Size 7. Shad finish. Great lure...
Excellent story
My brother faught a short for 5min. Thought it was a catfish, to this day we still quote him screaming "GIT THE NET, GIT THE NET"
I hooked a log while anchored fishing for catfish at night. I fought that thing for 45 min just to have my dad laugh at me when it finally got close enough to see. We call them stick fish 😂
You fought the bag and the bag won lol.
My longest and hardest fight was this last summer when I hooked a a chair at a 65 foot depth and hauled it up on an old Penn sea scamp which has no drag or anti reverse.
Thats too funny!
