  • Hello TH-camrs! In this episode I raced at Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake. A regatta I have only ever raced in an eight before, never a single. I have, however, raced a few times now on this course a few times in my single. The regatta consisted of a time trial late afternoon and then a side by side race in the evening. My time trial went reasonably well and placed second behind Callum Dixon. I was happy with the result as I forgot my stroke coach so did not have the confirmation of my speed going down the course. Colin, my coach, was there to say if I was on the right speed which helped a lot. Perhaps not having the stroke coach meant I could really focus on the effort. Didn't wuite go to plan but was ok in the end! Heading into the A final later on in the evening I was anticipating a different race. My gopro remote wasn't working so Brigham helped turn the camera on before we got too far from the dock. In the final itself, my first couple of strokes were not ideal but then managed to find a fast rhythm. Dixon took off after the first 200 or so and then the rest of us were pretty much within a second or two all the way down the course. The single is very interesting as there can really be strategic moves throughout the race that can determine your place and saw that a few athletes tried to sprint wuite early. I manged to hold on while there were others attempting to sprint to the finish until around the last 200 where I sprinted at took second place. Not quite how I wanted to the race to go but was ok in the end! I hope you enjoy the episode!

    Well done Cam! Your progress is great to watch and always remember that the Yamsquad is cheering you on from home. Second place is great or, as Joe Hart put it: "DECENTTTTT", no reason to be disappointed. That gold is closer with every training!

      @@CameronBuchan Understandable. I raced in the quad a month ago and it we had big chances to race at the olympic hopes regatta, which required 1st in this. We couldn't make it despite being so close.

    If you could nail that start you’re onto a winner (knees seem to angle towards strokeside as you come upto the catch 🤔). 🥳
    All the best for the HRR qualifiers 😎

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think I've made some good improvements to the start over last few days 💪 mostly down to understanding why I wash out consistently!

    • @Nomads_Rowing
      @Nomads_Rowing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s having the confidence to draw the hands up and tap out cleanly - I’m okay on the draw - it’s the clean tap and feather that stuffs me up. 🥴
      A few coaches seem to encourage having the spoons well buried for that first stroke for stability off the start too but then again I do watch too many videos on TH-cam 😆

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Nomads_Rowing yeah I went for the approach of trying to force the blades deeper on the first couple but didn't like how I ended up having to essentially change technique after the boat is moving. I actually brought the heights down slighlty which meant I didn't have to "dig" as much on that first stroke to keep the blades buried. On top of keeping te legs pushing instead of grabbing with the arms and shoulders seems to work nicely. Just have to remind myself to do it on the day!

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Potentially meant that I wasn't chasing numbers and just went hard. My coach was on the bike along side and have me some good indications of time aswell

      @karnage04 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You manage to claw back in the group quite quick after a slow start, well done! Did you find it tough to do so? Eg; you didn’t push you lactate too high? With a great start you will be flying!

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@karnage04 I'm still figuring the start out so it potentially hurt me further down the course trying to make up for a slower first few. I did feel like I was going pretty quick from around 30m-100m but after that you can see the guy on the left take off. Maybe I went too hard on the start. Didn't feel that way, although the middle definitely felt harder!
