Ronnie "The Rocket" O'Sullivan made a maximum 147 break in the quickest time ever recorded, five minutes and 20 seconds, in the first round of the 1997 World Championship.
O'Sullivan won £147,000 in prize money for the maximum, averaging 8.8 seconds per shot.
O'Sullivan lost in the second round that year, before winning his first world title in 2001. He has won it a further FIVE times since. - กีฬา
This has a really special meaning to me. My dear old Dad was a big Ronnie fan and he absolutely loved this break. He would bore people to death telling them how amazing it was, even if they knew nothing about or even liked snooker! He sadly passed away from Alzheimer's a few years ago. Another love of Dad's was Guinness. So, on the anniversary of his death, every year at 2:20am - the time he passed away, I set my alarm, get out of bed, pour a Guinness and watch this break. I know some of the comments here refer to pool hustlers and so on. The problem with that is pool tables are so much smaller and the pockets are significantly wider. On top of this the championship snooker tables have tighter pockets than normal club tables. What he did here is beyond belief, this is probably the most difficult “perfect” game of any sport to accomplish. He also managed it with blinding speed. Another factor that this particular video does not show is that Ronnie can play left-handed to 90-95% as good as right-handed, and with the same speed. There has never been another snooker player like him, the most century breaks, the most maximums, all done at incredible speed, an absolute genius at work!!!!!

I'd beg to differ with your most difficult status of a snooker perfect game. Pitching a perfect game in baseball is far tougher. There have been only 23 perfect games pitched (24 if you count the fact that Armando Galarraga was robbed of one by a bad umpire call on what should have been the last out of the game) in 140 years of major league baseball. For those unfamiliar with a baseball perfect game it is that a pitcher retires all batters of the opposing team 27 times without a hit or a walk. Also consider that pitching a baseball is far more physical than bending over a snooker table.

I'm not knocking that making a snooker maximum is difficult but their are degrees of difficulty some more physical than others for some things we like to call SPORTS. The important point being that there have been only 23 perfect games pitched in 140 years of professional baseball. The ultimate perfect game in baseball would be a pitcher striking out all 27 batters. It has NEVER been done. That 23 number has been surpassed by just two snooker players O'Sullivan and Hendry. No pitcher in baseball has ever pitched two perfect games in their careers. The key here is degree of difficulty.

Len Ganley deserves a shout for this too, quick with respotting the black, didn't cut across Ronnie like so many do these days, respected his rhythm, nice that he was part of one of the games most memorable moments too after his years of service to the game
the first spot was awkward and I thought, how can he pull it off, then it looked like Len figured it out, and stayed with the black and enjoyed the carnage with the rest of us.
He's as much part of it. Another ref might well have spoiled this. Also the run of the balls was with Ronnie. Doesn't take anything away from his amazing genius, though.

What amazed me most about this break, was not the quickness, but the fact that there was not a single difficult shot in the 36 pots. This was due to Ronnie's phenomenal cue ball control.
Not difficult for a pro but some of them shots were definitely not easy.

When he potted those balls, they entered the pocket so close to dead center that my jaw hit the floor. But in addition to his accuracy is his ability to plan ahead = not just one shot but several. Nobody knows the physics of this game better than Mr. O'Sullivan. I'm gobsmacked at this performance.

I can never get bored of the complete poetry in motion delivered in this.
I've seen many many 147's in my life, most of which required a fantastic shot or two to get back from a bad positional shot.
This is stand out as every shot and cannon was played for and no messing about with nerves at the end like you normally see. Just a straight up potting machine from the opening red. Confidence oozing from his very being.

one of the reasons why this break is so quick is that it is almost flawless, beside two or three slight inaccuracies. most shots in this break are of the category "its hard to place the white better by hand". and therein lies its magic, i think. he makes it look so easy and flawless that you can find yourself thinking "i could do that", but of course one can not. its the effortlessness where true greatless lies - this is the true magic of genius, at least IMHO.
I can do breaks of 1, 4 and 7 in that time.

A big reason as to why this was achievable was the role played by the referee.
On 14 of the 15 reds, he had the black back on its spot by the time (or before) the white stopped rolling.
The only time he placed the black a bit late was after 3rd red, where he placed it some 1/2 a second after the white had stopped.
Big credit goes to this official, who was part of history that will most likely never be repeated, but I've never seen him being given any credit. I could be mistaken, but I do not recall reading anything anywhere about this official's role.

It might not be in a technical sense the best break ever. There have been, at least on the surface, more difficult clearances. There have been breaks that have been made under what you might call higher pressure circumstances. There have been many breaks made against tougher opponents(no offence Mick) and there have even been many 147's that tick each and every one of these boxes if we really must spend the time debating their various merits for the purposes of comparison. But no frame of snooker, let alone a 147, has been made to look so effortless and so has been so beautiful to watch as a result than this frame of snooker and it is exactly because of the absolute genius of Ronnie O'Sullivan in the 5 minutes it took him to compile this break in the fashion he did that we are even in a position to make such comparisons because despite what people might think what he did here was not easy....that's just how he made it look. There aren't many records that I see as being unbeatable. This is one of the very few. There also isn't a single other player in the game that I would be comfortable attaching the label genius to and I would be happy to put my money where my mouth is to say that the vast majority of snooker fans, and snooker players for that matter, if asked would not hesitate for a second to agree that Mr Ronnie O'Sullivan is indeed a genius of the green baize. Do not be fooled people...this is the best frame of snooker that has ever been played.

...and on top of the speed, fluidity, positional accuracy, planning and nerveless positivity, every single pot was clean as a whistle, not one ball shaves the jaw of a pocket...not one. Certainly the most beautiful break to re-watch again and again with your favourite glass of wine. Maybe not the greatest in terms of situational tension, great escapes etc...but in terms of perfection and sheer beauty it is the greatest. Not a single positional error even when Taylor calls out prematurely "stop white", it was never in doubt!

I've watched this frame back so many times and I still get nervous and excited when he is down to those last few colours. watching this as a young lad live at home was incredible. When Ronnie retires snooker will be never be the same again :(

What i love about this is the cue ball control. Only time the cue ball went beyond blue spot to top half of table is when he played for the yellow, green, brown after the 15th black. Absolutely amazing

I've always been been attracted to the flair player that extra character and personality I was all about, I was so lucky to see The Hurrican at his very best and go through the turbulent heartache of The Whirlwind also at his best and then the The Rocket goes and does this, the way he fluently goes through this 147 is just a sight to behold.

@@carlsworldofwisewords8907 I've played for 40 years, as much as 4 nights a week at one point, and my highest break is 53 (which wasn't a particularly smooth 53). Ronnie has no doubt spent much time practicing and dedicating time to what he does, but I guarantee 99% of people, including me, wouldn't be anywhere near his level even if we put the time in. And he can do it left handed as well, which is just completely alien to most people. I can barely hold my cue properly in my left hand.

he is the best ever. i saw this when it went viral and it got me back into snooker. i used to make my partying money in my teens play snooker and gld on a snooker table in the late 60s and early 70s. i hung up 8 ball and bought a snooker table 3 yrs ago and built an room an dfriends come over. still love it at age 67

i’m a big sports fan. seen most things in the last 40 years of sport. not a particularly huge fan of snooker but have played on proper tables regularly. for me this is the greatest sporting accomplishment i’ve ever seen. watching him do something so close to impossible so fast still puts a smile on my face as i watch it. hearing dennis taylor saying “i don’t believe this” sums it up.
a 9 dart finish takes muscle memory and bottle but it's always the same. there's never a different set up. to knock in a 147 at that pace is sublime. sporting perfection. a true master. the best ever.

Should be plaudits for Len Ganley here also, the speed with which he puts the black on its spot is significantly faster than modern day refs, it allows Ronnie to get down on the next red without any delay whatsoever so doesn't interrupt his flow. Without Ganley's brilliant position that he keeps below the table out of shot (most would be moving around like a blue arsed fly) which allows him to stride speedily to the pockets, the time taken would have been at least 30 seconds longer.
Every time this pops up in my recommended I always watch it. Just incredible
I love Ronnie he's my absolute favourite sports person ever, watched him when he was 16 and said to my mate look out for this guy Ronnie O'Sullivan, he's going be the best ever. His positions were so good he was hitting many center ball shots and just using the natural angles and speed to get to the next shot. He didn't need to chalk for all those. Can't see anyone, even Ronnie, doing it faster than this, ever.

After turning professional in 1992, aged 16, he won 74 of his first 76 qualifying matches, including a record 38 consecutive professional victories. and still playing 31 years later . and still ranked number 1 . incredible .
Natural talent and a huge love for the sport. Some maybe could've done just aswell but they fall out of love with the sport and it becomes a chore.

It's not even Ronnie's best clearance, much less the best break ever.
What? He made a 147 clearance in 5 m 20 secs and you say it's not even his best clearance. So which one do you consider as a best clearance of Ronnie?
He's had a couple 147s better than this one for sure, the one in 2008 at the Crucible and the one in 2014 at the Welsh were both harder breaks than this one, with tougher recovery shots, sure this one is faster but that doesn't make it much better in my opinion.
Also, the 92 clearance in 2012 is amazing, it's not even a century break and it's probably one of his best clearances of his career. He had a really good clearance to the pink in the Northern Ireland Trophy in 2008, with 7 reds on the black cushion close to another, pink and brown tied up.
I think people overrate 147s in terms of the quality of the breaks, there have been lots of breaks below 147 that are just as good (Mark Selby's 143 at the 2017 World Championship was better than many 147 breaks). And speaking of Mark Selby, I think his 147 in 2013 is one of the very best and probably better than most of Ronnie's 147s.
The fastest does not necessary mean it is his best.
You gotta consider what he has done during the break to overcome difficult placement of red and color balls which could possible make the break more impressive
Well, this is your opinion but in my opinion it is the best. But you are right at that point. This was a much easier than the other 147s. He didn't need to some developing shots much but he played in there like without thinking at all. That's why this is the best break of all time for me.
How anyone can say hes not the best ever is beyond me,unbelievable
