Probably not the dogs. Most likely bent shift forks or worn shift drum. I’ve seen loose shift detents act like that as well. Take it apart slowly and check carefully as you go.
When installing the gears on my 08, the manual says to install the snap rings and washers with the chamfered edge facing the thrust load side, I’m assuming that the flat edges face back to back and the chamfered edge faces the gear?
That’s correct. I’ve never heard of a snap ring working it’s way off because it was in backwards but it can’t hurt! Using a new snap ring would be more important than orientation due to weakening the metal as you remove / install the ring. I re use snap rings (unless they’re damaged) and I’m sure I’ve installed them backwards before with no issues.
I accidentally grinded gears of my KTM DUKE 200 motorbike while downshifting from 6 th gear in traffic. It happened first time with my motorbike. Does it cause any damage to transmission like loss of power supplied to rear wheel ? please help me out iam really worried. ( It happened first time )
At the main shaft the second gear you put off... Mines don't turn or come off.. And I've put lots of time searching shifring problems and transmission turning and couldn't find even neutral... Think I've found the problem from this video... Many thanks... If you can reply that would be great too... I've got a crf 450 05
Yes sorry... At 3:08 the second gear he is getting off the main shaft... Mines stuck and I wasn't quit sure if it was normal because it isn't spinning or coming off the shaft. Is it engaged?
Crf Rider 05 should be the same as the transmission in the video. You might have a seized bearing surface. Send me some pictures of the gear in question and I can tell you if it’s supposed to turn or not. Look me up on FB messenger. Search Cote Motorcycles and it should pop up.
hi is this gear same as a yx140 just getting difficult putting the gear back as the washers bave been mixed up and don't remember how many and we're the washers go on the gears
thanks for posting, i have an 03 crf450r and i put my shafts, forks, and drum back in according the service manual specs. i am missing 1st gear and neutral but motor ran fine, any ideas where to start? i mustve missed something, its currently split
tmg754 sounds to me like you didn't have the shift star located on the dowel on the end of the shift drum. That is, if you didn't have the transmission shafts taken apart.
the transmission shafts were apart but i have a service manual handy and made sure they went back in proper order. if the shift star has a proper orientation then that may be where i messed up. i just popped it in and thought it was symmetrical
I don’t know if ppl are going to see this but my 06 crf80f I was riding soft cause my pear spokes are broken and now when ever I push it with the clutch in and even out it’ll make a clanking noise from I belive to right side I think it’s the clutch but my parents think that it’s gears can someone pls tell what I need to do or if it’s unreaparible
Anyone have input on a 07 CRF450R that will not shift into 5th. Bike runs fine shifts fine 1-4th up and down but will not go into 5th. Ive ridden the bike for a while like this.
Bill B maybe something stopping the drum from turning all the way. Sometimes a loose bolt on the drum detent will do this, if the bolt comes out it can do a lot of damage so you may want to at least pull the clutch case to take a look. You could also have a bent shift fork. Only way to find out is to work from the outside in until you find something. You’ll notice a bent shift fork by noticeable wear on the fork, as shown in the video. Good luck and thanks for watching! Be sure to throw down some likes and shared for our videos! Cote Motorcycles
So I can pull just the right case to get all the way down to access the drum and forks? I thought you have to split the main 2 cases to get to the shift forks and trannie?
The dogs will be rounded and clearly not the same color or texture of steel in the edge of the dog. Be sure to check your drum and forks also if you're having issues staying in gear. A little get off can bend a shift fork easily depending on how it falls.
CoteMotorcycles i have an minareli am6 engine with 6 gears on a Malaguti 75 ks enduro, and when i split the engine from the hole of the output shaft dropped 4 bits that look like nails without ends 2 have 1 cm one has 4 cm and one 5 cm and now idk what is the order to put them inside the shaft or it doesn't matter ?
CoteMotorcycles they dropped when i opened the clutch side and i think there is another one that comes last and a ball bearing and all are from the output shaft
I'm not familiar with that engine but it sounds like those pieces are the clutch push rod. Usually they are one piece with a bearing (or ball) against the clutch pressure plate. You're going to want to download a manual or call the dealer to make sure.

Great video! Thanks! 👍
I Appreciate you watching!
If it pops out of gear and goes back into gear itself under Max load is it likely worn dogs? I have 13000km on my bike

Bill B you can get to the shift pawl but if you want to check the forks and tranny you’ll need to split her down all the way.
Are you talking about the shift drum is shift pawl same thing?
Nice
Thanks sir
@cotemotorcycles how can you tell if the gear dogs are worn. I don't really see anything wrong but I'm having shifting problems
