  • Hey team, off grid camping in the Hoar frost at Free camp Lake Wardell.
    She's crispy cold and icy out there which we much more prefer than a damp and dull spot... So pretty out there.

    You're right about the next vlog, a good soul food for me to cure my Monday blues.
    You are a bit of a chef, curry night and the sweet/spicy pork the next 😎. Thanks a bunch for making my Monday a whole lot better😆. It was tough but glad is it behind me

      Mondayitis is a real thing. The damp, muddy camping sucks, I literally just hang out in the caravan when its like that. So much more enjoyable in the cold, even just frost and frozen puddles is fun, you'll see a lot of that in the next vlog. Oh and I do like to cook, Its very theraputic, especially with a bottle of wine.

      Yip yum warm comfort food... Toby loves playing with the ice, we still need to be able to get into some snow, we thought we were guarnteed snow in the last storm, but it seemed to skip over the top of us, we didn't get any rain either.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they are pretty awesome, I don't reckon I'd get 800w of power though, The eco flow lets me know how much charge things take to power, I reckon I'll get about 550w of constant output from the generator. It means the Ecoflow can trickle up at about 250w, the battery charger can charge at around 200w, and then we can charge up a couple of the kids laptops.

      Mmmm Yum food is essential to happy people in this caravan. Soph makes some epic Mexican, I enjoy cooking, so Soph fills in when I can't be bothered, she also does all the Laundry, which I hate. Nature is pretty incredible.

    I came across this channel after bumping into your video about the NZMCA show in Hamilton last year. Your travel videos are so cool to watch and listen. You have a great taste for music too. Keep it up. Have you thought about writing an article to Stuff or NZ Herald about your travels? And may be put some stickers on your caravan with your channel name if you are keen to get more subscribers as you travel along.

    A long long time ago, we lived in Twizel, with ex hubby helping build the dam etc, and I HATED hoar frosts. LOL With 2 kids under 3, no drier, and certainly no disposable nappies in those days, life was better in summer. I notice not much build up on the power lines in your videos, I remember power cuts during a hoar frost due to the icicles breaking power lines.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes in this video we arrived on the last day of a shorter hoar frost, we were up here the week earlier in a bigger one where the powerlines were well covered, but not enough to cause damage. The hoar frost is stunning to witness as a traveller I imagine it would be difficult to live in during the winter, always harder when it's your every day to the person passing by. where are you now?

  • @bbdgha
    @bbdgha ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow..!! Still getting those beautiful frosts. I will definitely be back next winter.
    I was having a look at your van roof and looks like there’s plenty of room for a couple of 415W panel’s running across the van if you moved the 3 smaller ones up to the front. Have fun guys..! 💪

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea plenty of room for more solar, I think we are doing pretty sweet with power now, the generator going for an hour or 2 makes all the difference, also flicking off the power in our caravan means we've stayed pretty full now, the heater bypasses the power supply and goes straight to the batteries. in another month or so, that sun will be staying in the sky a bit longer.

  • @jezthomas4402

    Beautiful landscape! Your caravan will be a lot warmer than my 'typical Kiwi-build' house in Kāpiti 🥶 I'm off again in the electric camper in a couple of weeks; have about a month heading down to Dunedin for work and The All Blacks game there, via Methven if there's any snow on the slopes there, or Akaroa if not. Then off to Wanaka before heading back north; might bump into you if we can sync locations? Hoping to do some cycling while I'm down there too. Just having a mild panic as I've just about finished making my van self-contained after a pile of time and effort, and I've just gone to book the inspection and it looks like the law has changed and I can't get a certificate without a permanent loo!! Gutted, just trying to see if I can find a way around it. Enjoy the thaw and the sunshine!

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, we will likely be in Christchurch soon, I'll be looking for a bit of work because we don't want to work in summer at all if we can help it, much nicer to work in the winter, although we are still awaiting a snow storm, which completely jumped over canterbury apparently, we got nothing up at the Ashburton lakes, east or west of us... Yes permanant loo is going to catch a lot of people out I think? Is there a way to plumb one in? or is the van a little bit small for that.

      Hey mate, we've not had any issues with our gas freezing up, maybe cause the fridge is running off grid so it keeps circulating... Our fridge has been come up with an error recently though, which is due to no Gas, even though the bottle is full... It happens in the day time so it can't be the cold. We are glad the batteries seem happy now, nice not having power stress.
