By 2008 it was recommended that the five brake disc screws be discarded and replaced with new ones during installation. Before 2008 if you reuse the screws use Loctite 243.
Feliz Navidad 2019🎄, have a 2007 1200 Custom, couple questions is the rear axle nut 36 mm or 1inch 1/8? Finally, what made u replace Sporty with a Dyna? Gracias vaya con Dios....
Unfortunately I don't remember the size of the axle nut. My commute is a 110 miles/day, and the Sporty was a little hard on my rear end. I was ready for a bike that was a little more planted on the interstate and had a 6th gear. I'll always love my Sporty!
I don't have my factory service manual anymore because I have a Dyna now. From what I can tell, 75 ft lbs, with a warning not to exceed 78 ft lbs otherwise the bearing could be damaged. From 2008 up it's 95-105 ft lbs. Do more research for your year to make sure you have it right. There's a fine line between having it correctly tightened and over doing it.
I know it doesn't say in the manual but, I was always told you should replace your disc mounting screws with new ones. That is what the service center and parts dept. at HD told me too. Maybe it is just a bunch of BS so they could sell you new screws but they don't cost that much and just for safety sake, I replace them.
It crossed my mind. I actually wasn't planning to do the job this past weekend, I just wanted to work on loosening the screws, but one thing led to another. The screws looked good. Fortunately they can be replaced without removing any parts, if it comes to that. I can't wait to take the bike out and bed in the new brakes!
My lift: th-cam.com/video/6Vrypyz1eTgI/w-d-xo.html've had it 2 years this month. For the price paid, I couldn't be happier with it. I use it several times a month, and it's great.
I'm about to attempt this on my 94 Sportster and I've found this video invaluable. Thank you for taking the time to help others out!
Awesome, you're welcome! Thanks for posting!
Alex Thorne if you find a video for a 94 sporter can you send me link,(I have the same year bike)
Old rotor still looks pretty good. Was it warped or something?
Yes, it had high & low spots, really uneven.

Rear disc brake screws torque specs: 30- 45 ft-lbs.for 2007-2016 Sportster.
What size torx you used?
It's been a while since this job, but I believe it's T-40
@@bluesriderDF thanks buddy🙏🙏🙏
Random, but what kind of bag is that on your sissy bar? Looking for a rear bag like that
That is a TourMaster Nylon Cruiser III sissybar/tail bag. It definitely did the job.
What is the torque spec for the axle

they should be replaced, those bolts stretch and are supposed to be one time use.
