Castell Gwyn, which translates to "White Castle" in English, is a historic site located in Wales and is a motte-and-bailey castle located near the village of Llantilio Crossenny in Monmouthshire, Wales.
This castle dates back to the Norman period, likely built in the late 11th or early 12th century. Motte-and-bailey castles were a common feature of Norman military architecture in Wales and England during this time.
Castell Gwyn consists of a motte, which is a raised earthwork mound, and a bailey, which is an enclosed courtyard. These types of castles were strategic strongholds used by the Normans to exert control over newly conquered territories and to defend against potential Welsh uprisings.
The history of Castell Gwyn is intertwined with the broader history of Norman conquest and settlement in Wales. While the castle itself may not have played a significant role in major historical events, but stands as a icon to the Norman influence in Wales during the medieval period.

Another comprehensive castle tour. Well done.
Thank you kindly Andy! x
Always a very quiet castle this one, beautiful though & perfect for a picnic.
Hi Alessa & Brett, what a stunning finale. Magnificent views. I've seen a few castles in Wales but had no idea about this ( or the other 2 ) built against the Uprisings. I'm always so in awe of the structures- the wide walls and height of the buildings. What a manpower ( slave labour) would have been used to build these castles. I always feel very small and insignificant inside the walls. What an amazing history. Your narration is so clear and well delivered. Another jewel on your channel. Sorry to have missed the premier- asleep still. Monday morning here, not a Bank Holiday though 🤣! Have a great week.👌😎🙋♀🥝
Thank you kindly Anita, you're so kind to watch our walking tour, thank you! Wishing you a wonderful week down under! heh xx
Hi Alessa and Brett, the Castle ruins look amazing, very well preserved. The bridge across moat was very long and you explaining about the draw bridge made so much sense. I always wonder how they were able to construct such wonderful buildings it must of taken such a long time. Thank you for all the hard work you do researching the history. The drone footagre was brilliant and showed such stunning views. Take care x Julie and Tony x
Glad you enjoyed it! Julie and Tony - honestly appreciate your wonderful comments and your support , it's always so appreciated. Wishing you both a wonderful week ahead! xx

Incredible views 👌
Thank you so much! 💓
Very interesting, the foundation reminds me of the foundation of the statue of liberty
Thank you kindly for watching and being a fab support!
I often wonder who designed these buildings ?, were they built from off a plan ? Did they use local builders or were there companies that specialised in this type of construction ?
Some fantastic questions, it's mind blowing really, I would assume they used local builders though, but that is a fascinating route to go down! Thank you for watching!
@@PinnedonPlaces thank you , I thoroughly enjoy the content .
Have you heard of White Castle burgers 🍔?
I have indeed, I've eaten a White Castle burger before too hehe, it always makes me laugh when I think of this castle!
We was here not long ago lol
