EXPLANATION (and spoilers if you haven't watched): By conserving a dash at 8:57, we can smuggle the jellyfish to the end of the next room, which is required to backtrack to the kevin block. Backtracking in this manner allows Madeline to enter the last room with much more speed than she would normally be able to. With that much speed, Madeline runs into the pufferfish while in the final room's initial cutscene. This results in regaining control of Madeline while the cutscene is still playing, at which point we activate the binocular and then immediately skip the cutscene. This sequence of actions results in the player having simultaneous control of both Madeline and the binocular (thus the name: Binocular Control Storage). Since the binocular overrides normal camera triggers, we can use dash-only binds to keep stage hazards unloaded while playing the rest of the room, allowing for a very direct route to the end of the level. This bizarre state is cancelled by standard jumps and dashes, but pause buffering jumps and using demodashes makes it possible to circumvent those limitations. The reroute in the final screens of the level contributed to 29 of the 33 seconds of timesave in this version of the TAS, and directly inspired the jelly smuggle a few rooms earlier in Reconciliation, which saved another 3 seconds. The final second of timesave came from various optimizations elsewhere in the level. Enjoy!
"That bird! It's part of Granny! We need to catch it." "Madeline, this isn't a good idea. This won't bring her ba-" "Caught it." "What??" "Help us escape, now." "...Fine?"
I try to imagine what the next improvement of this TAS will be, according to the description of the video. I remember when I saw the dts and room strategy with the Kevin PC (g-06), being speechless. Now I literally see Madeline being a ghost as she uses the binoculars, her soul separating from herself and going full speed ahead. I seriously try to imagine a next TAS improvement. Great video!
Question. Where you using the 2 dash option from assist mode? It looked like it for the most part because I saw Madeline with pink hair in rooms which don’t even have double pink crystals. Of course I could be wrong and it was probably me not being able to understand anything because madeline was moving at mach 5 for 9 minutes. Anyway Incredible TAS
I’m no Celeste expert when it comes to actually knowing how it works lol so I’m just copying an explanation from someone on Reddit who copied it from Vamp on the Celeste discord: “Perform an infinite height glitch on a cutscene to sequence break and skip the ‘set dashcount to one’ trigger. This allows the entire chapter (up to stubbornness) to be done with two dashes. How it works: start the cutscene by pressing the interact button. Next frame the button has to be released, and jump needs to be held for two frames. (this can be free with pausebuffering). Once youre rising, a good cue when to skip cutscene is to scroll through the dialogue until the birds appears onscreen Next, do a super off the moon block and dash over the "set dashes to one" trigger to skip it.” It’s all implemented from the beginning cutscene where Granny is, and later you are indeed forced back to one dash once the Stubbornness section starts but hey it’s all super cool and complicated jskdjdkd
the technique is known as a roboboost, where you: do a reverse hyper from the kevin, dash downright, cornerboost 4 times, jump off of the kevin after landing on it, and then dash again and jump. each of these actions gives a boost from the block(this is called a multiboost).
Here is an unnecessary and probably somewhat inaccurate explanation for what you may be talking about. So for the spikes on walls you can pass through them if you are going in the same direction as they are pointing also I think though this may be incorrect that if you jump fast enough the game doesn’t register the collision and lets you live that and the fact that the hitboxes aren’t fully accurate to the sprites allows them to not die, now for the jumping through walls of circular spikes that is abusing the fact that the hitboxes don’t connect and leave small gaps that you can demodash through and as for demodashing it’s just a dash with a crouched hitbox and is called crouch dash in the settings since you can bind it to a key, and finally for the binocular part at the end the spikes and electricity don’t have hitboxes I think, it said something about hitboxes not loading for some things in the pinned comment. And for the double dashes at the start they skipped the set dashes to 1 bit with the entire starting sequence. Hope it helps if you can even read this. Tl:dr spikes don’t hurt when you follow the point and the spike circles are in fact square so you can go between the gaps. The binoculars don’t render hazards and you can skip the 1 dash trigger by flying away.
You can skip a trigger at the start of the chapter that would normally set your dashes from two to one. It's called DTS (dash trigger skip) or Oil Skip. Here's a video explaining it: th-cam.com/video/nZIJwq7fzlA/w-d-xo.html
the tas did a thing called a roboboost, where you basically get the boost from the kevin block a lot. to get there(non tas), you just take the feather upleft instead of chasing the bird. the room is a reference to kevin, the game's sound designer
I dont know why people are so surprised by TAS runs its like having assist and cheat mode on at once while being controlled by a precision perfect AI. So the only real skill involved is the programming of the AI.
Honestly, you have a valid point. It _is_ cheating, and I can understand how that dissapponts you. But that's not the thing that's impressive. No, the thing thats impressive is that people had to FIND these exploits, and then find how to make it sew together perfectly to make a fast run. Now, you might not be impressed, but most of the community is, and I am too, so, as of the time of this comment, you are respectfully ratioed.
