Thanks for all the support you guys have shown me since the start of this channel. It's been incredibly motivating! I've come to the realization that I'll never be able to cover all the games you guys have been suggesting given how long it takes for me to make just one of these videos.... With that in mind, are you interested in seeing some first impressions style videos from me, for some of those games and new releases? It would mean more frequent uploads, but not all of them would get this kind of essay/review-style treatment. Let me know!
I don't really see the point in denigrating other games as lesser just to position _this one_ as more valuable and artistic, as if that's going to convince anyone who already doesn't believe in the medium. there's no threshold where something _becomes art,_ it's all art. I do happen to agree that Hyper Light Drifter is a pretty exceptional videogame... I think also, something good, criticism/analysis can do with even fairly middling pieces of art is burrow into them and excavate that one little _spark_ of heart or ingenuity that no other piece of art possesses. you can learn a lot just by starting from the premise that it's all art and that it all has something to offer. thumbnail was very eye catching btw, I like the colours. I looked at your channel and the way you're doing it feels distinct and pretty cohesive, which is hard to do, so bravo
I absolutely don't disagree with you here. All games could be considered artistic in some form or another, and they can all bring something valuable to the table. I just felt like Hyper Light Drifter really stood out to me as doing that in multiple ways compared to other recent games I've been playing. Also, unfortunately this is youtube and to stand out you gotta make some bold or exaggerated claims in your titles and thumbnails to get people to click. This is my favourite game and a truly transformative experience every time I play it. I have the OST Vinyls, Art book and drifter vinyl model. I am going to get a tattoo soon similar as well! Glad to see someone else loves the game as much as I do and that it meant as to someone else as it did to me.
I've yet to play drifter but i already saw a full playthrough a few years ago. The difficulty scared me off which is why i watched it first but after playing solar ash i just had to play everything these guys make. Solar ash is a game about letting go and i played it during a time of grieving. It helped me to move on in a very special way and was the first time i felt joy again at that point after my loss. I'm keeping drifter for a special moment when i have time to soak it in. And i'll be picking up breaker in early access despite not being into roguelikes myself. Finally there's possesors which is a metroidvania, my favorite genre! So obviously i'm getting that one. It's also published by devolver which is always a massive +
Solar Ash looks really interesting to me too, I love games with great movement and it seems to fit that description. Holding off on playing drifter until it's the right time sounds like the right thing to do. The game is incredibly special, if experienced at the right time. Hadn't heard of possessors, I'm gonna go look that up now. Sounds neat. Thanks!
@@SchwingyPOV Yeah possesors is high on my most anticipated mist! Also you really should play rain world like that one person suggested. Not only is it a masterpiece, it's also very good on the youtube algorithm. Rain world fans are constantly watching anything with RW in the thumbnail/name lol
@@d00mnoodle24 hahaha good to know, I'll add it higher up. I am slightly intimidated by the difficulty people seem to say it has. Is it around the same difficulty level as something like Hollow Knight? Also Possessors has a killer art style, absolutely on my radar now thank you!
@@SchwingyPOV i haven't played hollow knight but it's nothing like that game. Rain world's difficulty comes from you not knowing how the game works initially. As you explore and experiment you start understanding how to better survive. What creatures are hostile/friendly or useful? What is prey and what is predator? Discovering all this is the joy of the game and can only be experienced once so beware of spoilers. That being said there is a random element with the creature spawns and sometimes you just get fucked, nothing to do about it. Even the best players sometimes get owned. But persistence is rewarded and by the end you'll be so much better at the game 😉
