This really helped considerding I just moved up to a class after a couple of races I was struggling to stay at the front of the pack I was stuck in 6 th or something sice I watched this I've at least come in front 3 places and got 4 podiums after watching this it was great !
Love how simple this was. All the other videos made me want to watch a couple more videos lol and the wheelie tip about pulling the clutch in but not letting off the throttle was a huge tip I needed. I always thought letting off the throttle or using the rear brake was the best thing
Thank you for the video! Your tips are extremely helpful in pointing my nine year old in the right direction. I don't have a much experience in the dirt and it's great to receive pointers from a legend FOR FREE!
Hey, so I'm 9 and Saturday I'm having my first race 🏁 and this helped me
I’m 3 years old and a world champion in motocross. I race for Ducati. My bike is suped up with hand built handle bars. I go fast dude. No one can touch me. I consistently do whips over the whoops and scrubs over the step ups.
Bet puss
When you're 3 years old and can spell/talk in fluent English
race for ducati in motocross LMAO!!!!!
Whehn did Ducati start making dirtbikes 😂😂😂😂😂
Ducatti its foking motorcroos
Finally some worth while info! Anything is better than Dean Wilson's tips, but RC is one person where ill take all the tips I can get!
Awesome advice - use the front brake to hold the bike!!!! I suspect drag the clutch ever slightly to take up drive train slack for an even better holeshot.
One of the biggest things i think most beginners mess up is get a smooth get away is key but holding an releasing the front brake to gas is the toughest thing beginners an most riders scew up....practice the brake hold an release to gas that is the first part of a good start...hey also if RC is doing a school...i would go....what a great rider i think the strongest an toughest...hard worker
Simple but Extremely effective tips
this has always confused me with two strokes but when you do a start with a two stroke do you hold the throttle wide and then drop the clutch??? someone reply
I do agree u should watch the bar its reliability....if u do like i do an watch a gate over or 2 just the pin falling its ok...unless the gate has been bent....i like to cut hairs..but if some silly reason ur gate is slow or sticks it will burn u if u want to be safe...im a road racers to an i drag my right foot an shift real fast...an i bring my right foot up an my leg too it in slow motion may 25 feet later so it doesnt disturb traction or balance...with 4 strokes traction isnt a problem any more we have too much... unbelievable change from grappling for grip to having way more then we need...mx starts looks like speedway bikes leaving the line...ill comment on balance another time feet down both is good till u become...balanced perfect....if i remember RC was always a good starter....top 4 on the 250cc 2 stroke....i think he was better....his starts were excellent always
I met him the other day :))))
Dont care
Nobody asked
Great teacging thank you but my question is do we twist the throttle while waiting in the gate ? because you hear that in the races bikes getting louder before gate drop.
You the man Ricky
i like your video its helped me a lot on my stars
Never hurts to have a few tips from a champions
Ricky Carmichael is the smoothest motocross racer ive ever seen
better clutch control + more weight on the front. i could do this on my sx65 by popping the clutch while holding full taps in 3rd gear(got me many hole shots). but when i first got my rm85 i was also too light to pop the clutch with the throttle wide open so in the begining i would also start off with a fat wheelie or eveb flipping the bike at times.
How could someone dislike this?
Listen this is the hole shot master I'll take everything he says inn.. great tips
do you start in first or second?
@Garrett Heckman i feel like that's a myth. I think it just depends what works for you and your bike setup, personally
Yeah I think that sound pretty good I was told by a couple people to watch a couple gate over, and like that best because, and the person told me that u get a better view at the start of the fall, but Ricks way is cool, because the gates are individual, try looking a couple gates over and see which way works I have never watched the pin what freaking pin I didn't see know stinking, was I supposed to get off my bike and lay on the ground,a couple gates over why not...I know it works and I watch most of the other guys and I think I am one of a few that do it that way...
Foustrokes are a work out to keep the front down good luck with that they hook u have know choice but to use the clutch like Rick said...piece out...I love that shot of dirt just exploding out the back,beautiful...
He makes it look so easy.
good riding tips ,thanks a lot
getting my first bike soon
Because, he is Ricky Carmichael!
More control I would imagine. I always use two anywhere on the track.
what is the advantage of using the clutch to control the wheelie vs the throttle???
you can see the shadow a rc helicopter that is filming the overhead shot. thats pretty cool
Thanks...
I like Ricky he don't show off he's stuff he got like some pros do
thanks brother
Hello, I am 15 years old and recently got a new dirtbike, a Susuki 85cc with a special cillender that makes the bike go faster than normal (the cillender was made for a famous racer but he went over to KTM so this one was put on this bike). I've riden the bike a few times but I don't know if I should get a bigger one, alot of people say I'm too big for it. I am also kind of scared of the technique, any tips further? I am scared the bike will fly up and to a wheelie and land on me. Thank you
+Drakedaan im 15 on a yz125, i did my first race 3 weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. i started in 2nd gear so i didnt flip it, if you have dirt for the start (where i raced it was a concrete platform with a litttle layer of dirt on top) especially on that 85 the wheel should just spin like hell. If all goes bad and you wheelie and end up goin to high, get used to your foot using the brake because it is very useful, tap the brake and you will go straight back down. I go riding with my friends a lot and i try to get some race starts in for practice. Good luck, hope this helped a bit.
Tinted Wisdom Thanks, I'm not going to race yet, first need to get into it. Considering to buy a 125 though cause mineis getting small, it that smart?
Drakedaan i would recommend getting a 125 if you're growing. Im only 5'5 but when i got my yz125 3 months ago i was 5'3. At first when looking for a bike i thought hey why not look for a kx100 but i was like nah 125's are gonna be more my style and i ended up getting a yz125, best decision of my life :)
+Tinted Wisdom I tried riding on my brother's Yamaha 125 and I noticed it has a lot of power, and I'm only a beginner. What's a good bike to get?
Drakedaan Depends, are u looking for a bike you can keep for awhile and then upgrade later or just get one now and keep it forever? Also your height and weight would be a help too
Thanks man.
Release the clutch a bit slower and more weight on the front :)
It says in the video "Pick a gate that operates smoothly and offers the closest straight line to the first corner"
nice tips
I started riding dirt bikes when I was 4 years old
Landan Ledbetter Me too, great age to start, am I right?
I need help, my bike bogs on second gear starts. Is this a bike problem or operator error? Should I start in first gear?
Guys I need some help. I normally race on a sand track with a rutted start on my yz 125, every time I try to do a start, I find myself looping out but I manage to save it. I'm leaning over the front, have it in 2nd gear, lots of throttle, but I just can't get the front end to stay down, and suggestions?
Like your game
1st gear is designed to only put you around in the pits or to get you backk to your truck after a race ... for race mx bikes ( rm, cr, yz, kx) the second gear IS your first gear out in the track ... if you are'nt if 2nd gear is giving you too low of rpm's on your track ...you need to change your gearing ...
Gorgeous Nightmare - Escape The Fate
but you get a much quicker launch off the gate and there is many ways you can change gear without loosing any power oh btw i ride 2 stroke so i dont know but it maybe different on a four-stroke
GOAT'in it!
sick man
i sit on the gas tank and lean as far forward over the front bars and my front tire still comes up too much.... i have a 2013 kx450f... anyone have any advice for starts?
Nice
hey guys i'm working on a translation but i can't hear wat he said from 0;44 to 47 is it slightely tors the bars pad ?
Goatttttttt
Beginning song Gorgeous Nightmare -Escape The Fate
Great. Music choice
What gear do you have to be in?
Start in second because its smoother off the line and you dont have to shift right away
Philipp Fernandez I like first
amo
How far in should I hold the clutch
until you feel your bike start to go foreword then put on your front break :)
What's the song in the interdiction
What's the name of that song in the begging
So you don’t feather the clutch?
Hey, what if I have no clutch can I still dirt start I've search so long for a vid to help but there's nothing so some one pls help
KidNerf you can But Most Rider Ride with clutch
Pull the shift lever up to go into first but instead of letting it back down keep it up and you'll be able to rev it up without moving. Then follow the directions in the video except when they say to drop the clutch, let the shift lever down. * I am not responsible for any injury to you or your bike! Do at you own risk*
How do his feet touch the ground if he's so short? I'm slightly taller but I can't really have both feet on the ground on my 125.
adjust your sag
jared tatgenhorst My sag? I adjusted the rear shock to be as low as possible.
His seat is custom for him too, they make after market seats where the foam is notched to lower seat height, check em out, or take your seat cover off and adjust your foam yourself and rewrap it with the seat cover tight
Warren Grabher Cool I'll check it out, thanks! :)
You could also use starting blocks
Guess he commin back raced at Loretta Lynn's on a rmz 450
How do you do the woops on motocross
Go go over them.
+Tec 9 haha thanks dick
lean back and pin it
Why hold in the front break?
it keeps the bike from rolling foreword to the gate but not take power off the back tire plus if you used the back break you are not balanced
+Colton Densmore337 For 2 reasons: the first is to immobilise the motorcycle then holding the clutch near the slipping point. The second is to exerce a torque that tightens the chain and to rise the back of the motorcycle (remember that opening the throttle rises the rear suspension of a motorcycle due to chain tension). Best regards!
Do you start in 1st gear or 2nd gear taking off?
2nd
its your preference really
i ride a 250f, i would never start in 1st, i always use 2nd
99.999% of people are in 2nd gear on the starting line. my preference is to be in first for one reason only and that is because for me racing my 125cc, i weight about 130 at 5'7 so im light on the bike but 1st gear for me works great because i get that extra speed out of the gate and not having to worry about killing the bike when i pop the clutch. and NO i dont wheelie out because i know how to put more force on the front of the bike then what i actually weigh
1:08 That drone is profitable
What gear do u start in ?
First
+Matthew Clark for starts you usually go for second :)
then what's the point of first gear it's basically a useless gear that you might aswel have 4 gears like use 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and get rid of first because it basically is sitting in the case with weight that is pointless but I suppose if you're running a high end reklus torge drive clutch you don't need first gear you don't need it so why keep it in the bike seeing as 2nd starts are faster lol
What song is the intro?
Darude - sandstorm
June Lily Gorgeous nightmare by escape the fate
Naaaaa on 2strokes as small as 85s 2nd gear launch is faster also with 2 feet on the ground better balance and you can deal with wheel spin/Wheelies better
fuck yea ricky!
second
Only thing I'm wondering is how I'm supposed to have both feet down when I'm so short that I can barely have one foot down at all.
id highly recommend getting your seat shaved if that's the case, I had mine shaved about 1.5 inches and now I can have my toes from both feet on the ground rather than just one, it makes a world of difference. im 5'4 and ride a 250. if you look close at ricky's seat it is thinner than a stock seat.
You can use starting blocks
That front lean is balance too...the key to balance...if u dont move forward to the cross bar pad...ur balance can drift....drop the head an chest forward...i watch a lot who dont di that...an i laugh....fools...jk
Ricky has a little more weight forward then he used to :)
His wallet has a bit more weight aswell 😊
lol so you get off the gate first and when you change into second all the other riders pass you... why do you think all the pros start in second? with both feet on the ground.
I tried on my cr 85 but I flipped any help?
You forgot the part about if the bike rises up lightly press on the clutch the control the wheelie...
Ripp that Gas down ! :))
why use them two fingers on the clutch
How the fuck do u start it what do u have to do with the clutch and throttle or sum I have a cr85 2stroke please help
He seems to be short , maybe like me, the seat has been shaved down , that's exactly what I m going to do ..
fox???
Not the same on 2 strokes.
accually i do race and if you put one foot on the gear stick side then you can start in 1st gear (quicker launch) and change up quicker get your facts right mate
subtitulos :(.
mucho aggresivo mucho winneros
shat gear???
2
you've obviously never raced motocross. properly.
What's the song name to intro to this video
no idea but it kinda sounds like a metal version of "sweet dreams" eurythmics??
Oh i found it out gourgus nightmar bye escape the fate
Van Copeland Gorgeous nightmare by escape the fate
Thnx Van Copeland😊😊
