It will be interesting to see how the Iconic’s holds up . I have a Fanatic that I have had back to Hatch for the drag to be replaced ( upgraded ) here I am again having an issue with the drag . It’s to bad because I have tried to like the reel even though it does have some shortcomings like the drag , the Tippett getting out between the frame and the spool and the weight . The problem is I don’t have confidence with it so I use it as a backup and for the $750 price tag there are lots of options . My Danielsson reel was my backup and now is my primary real in this class and I have caught lots of Fish on it in the past couple of years and have had no issues and it was half the price.
@Genesis Germaniae just got back from Alaska , silvers , rainbows , char , dolly’s all on Danielsson reels not one issue bought another one for my Spey rod :-)
Unfortunately the Icons are way too heavy for me. I was hoping they make them lighter than the Finatic but instead they make it even heavier.

Pretty unrelated, but are there any plans to review the new Thomas and Thomas Sextant? I've had no luck finding anything about the rod online or on the forums and would love your input. Your model-by-model reviews of the sector and nrx plus were really helpful.

Ben- Thanks for your review. I have a Hatch Fnatic and while I appreciate the solid construction and phenomenal drag system, there is one major design flaw that has nagged me for years given the price of these reels. I have the same issue with an X series nautilus reel as well. That issue is that when dealing with very light fluoro tippets (4, 5, 6x), the tippet will slip out of the reel frame. I would expect that given the prices of both of these products that the companies would ensure stricter tolerances to make sure that their tools are adequately built for using light leaders. Do the smaller iconics (3, 4, 5+ models) address this issue? I know it is a common problem for many who own them. If they don't address the issue, is there a high quality reel on the market today that you would recommend that does not have this problem?
Any full frame reel should address this issue. The Galvin euro reel is a high-quality option.
I just got my Iconic 7 plus, large arbor - does this arbor pick up 9.5 inches of line per turn? Thanks! Taking this reel to Iceland - end of July 2022.
Thanks Ben. Are the drags between the 2 reels interchangeable?
I am fortunate enough to get one of the pre release 7+. The drag design/housing is new and will not be interchangeable.
Unfortunately, nothing between the two reels is interchangeable.
