I love how you say Power Supply! :-) I am totally excited! Pure Wing 2 is 3 Pin not PWM. Silent Wing 3 is 4 Pin PWM which needs 12V + Digital Signalchannel 3 Pin means the Speed is controlled by Voltage. from 3 V to 12 V means, 3 V slow speed, 12 V fastest. 4 Pin means the Speed is controlled by Signal. Always 12 V, if you not plug a signal it always have 12 V full speed.
These Pure Wings 2 fans are unbelievably suitable for a PSU. My Seasonic GX-550 supplies just 2.7 volts to the fan at idle, but the Pure Wings 2 fan still spins up without issues, unlike many other fans I've tried. The only issue I had is that during prolonged gaming sessions my computer restarts due to the PSU overheating because of my 215W GPU dumping a whole lot of heat into the case. But the solution is simple - I just replaced the "regular" Pure Wings 2 fan with Pure Wings 2 High-Speed, which has a higher max RPM and, more importantly, higher static pressure, while still being silent at the RPM my power supply spins it to. So if anyone is thinking of using Pure Wings 2, I'd suggest buying the high-speed version of the fan instead. Another thing I did is instead of soldering wires directly to the hub of the fan, I cut off one side of the fan cable that came with the PSU and soldered a regular 4-pin male fan connector to it that I cut off from a fan splitter I had laying around. Now I can just plug in whatever fan I want without having to solder to it.

Yeah, but 1350rpm could be not slow in some applications. Start voltage is fine, but i recommend minimum 1500rpm. You can try it, as long your computer case is big enough and the airflow is fine. Hold me up to date and thx for the info about the Arctic F12 fan.

@@NSC-Modz Well, most $100+ power supplies nowadays are semi-passive. And silent (~800 rpm) cooling is enough for them, especially if the power supply comes with a reserve (for example, 1000w PSU with consumption up to 350w can be cooled at ~500 rpm). In case of very long full loads and the heat outside you can also raise it up to 1000+ rpm, it will be enough even in relatively cheap arctic p12. Well, and in general the fan curve (I tie it to the CPU temperature) can be changed at any time if needed.
On high quality PSU's like from SeaSonic or BeQuiet, this here is not needed. This video here is more for older PSU's or PSU's that has a noisy disturbing fan 😅
@@NSC-Modz Well, seasonic, of course, but it costs from $300 here. By the way, it can also be fanless. It makes sense to change the fan for units up to ~$250. HI NSC, do you know if the CECH-2003A PS3 Slims have a different fan curve to other models of Playstation 3 systems as even with liquid metal and a fan adjuster set to around 30% the fan will still rise on its own in Grand theft auto 5.Cheers
No, the Fan curve is mostly the same on all PS3's
@@NSC-Modz Alright man, must be the pressure or something. Soon i will finish building my pc then i will out a CFW on the PS3 to check the temps.Cheers
My old PSU Corsair TX650 has YL D14BH-12 (DC 12V 0.70A) is it okay for me to use bequiet! Pure Wings 2 140mm (DC 12V 0,5A)
Awesome video man. I bought an Arctic F12 120mm fan (starting voltage 2,7v; 53cfm, 1350rpm, 23dba) in hope to reduce my psu fan noise, it is pretty loud under load. I have a seasonic m12ii evo 750w psu and the stock fan specs are: 120mm fan 2500rpm, 98cfm and 45dba. Do you think its an okay swap?
Yeah, but 1350rpm could be not slow in some applications. Start voltage is fine, but i recommend minimum 1500rpm. You can try it, as long your computer case is big enough and the airflow is fine. Hold me up to date and thx for the info about the Arctic F12 fan.
Isn't the motor also smaller?
no, looks the same, just the blades different :)
@@NSC-Modz oh yeah 👍 sorry I am tired 😴
My original one starts at at full speed then goes silent
Cooler master 750w
Os that normal ?
Yes, because it makes a fan test first.
I have the same problem with the cooler master. Sounds like a jet fighter in my silent pc. I have 2x new 140mm thermaltake fans from my thermaltake T71 Case. They are not so loud like in PSU. Now watching videos or i can change.
Gute Arbeit bro. Für ein Netzteil mit einem 140mm Lüfter sollte dann der neue Lüfter mit 1000U/min gut ausreichen.
Danke dir :) Ich würde lieber ein mit 1200 bis 1400 nehmen.
Thank you for video. Can you please help me ? I want to replace PSU fan with be quiet! Silent Wings 4 1900 RPM
Questions:
1. is 1900 RPM enough ? I have RX6700 xt Draws about 200 W on full
2. Can I connect fan to Motherboard instead of psu itself? (Mag Mortar B660M) I have SYS_Fan2 and Pump_Fan1 connectors on MB 4 pin.
Yes, 1900 is OK, and yes you can connect it to the motherboard to. Just be sure that the fan on bios is not set on silence or slow mode. Just set it on standard
@@NSC-Modz Thank you very much!
@@Daviusus you always very welcome 🥰
Thanks for this awesome video, just the info I was looking, do you think the Pure Wings 2 PMW (BL039) will work as well?
You welcome Yeah, i think so
I just bought it, will try and share my results.
@@lguerreromx that's the way to go, thank you my friend.
@@NSC-Modz The Pure Wings BL039 worked just fine, also I had a Cooler Master fan with RGB from a Hyper 212 lying around and that worked too!, tried others from diferent brands and didn't work, just those two.
@@lguerreromx Good to know, TYVM
Did some messing around with an Apevia 600w prestige and ran into this problem, as my pure wings fans are all 900rpm. I don't feel like having to order in another fan, I wonder if some PSUs have a potentiometer or other way to control the voltage, to make the fan turn faster?
Yes, but most PSU´s are controlled by temperature sensor. On some PSU´s like from Enermax, you can set the fan speed.
Why would a switching PSU have such unstable voltage? It's connected to the 12V rail right?
You mean the fan? The Fan works not constantly on 12v The fan works on the beginning with lower voltage. As the PSU begins to work hard on load it will let the Fan turn faster.
@@NSC-Modz Ok thought that the PSU delivered constant 12V to the fan.
@@bitdevice nope 😀
what about Pure Wings 3 ? the same?
Should be, not tested for now...
Tolles Video.
I'd prefer Noctua but how to find out what start voltages they have? The tested Noctua has 5.2 volt start voltage, so this means it's not recommended for PSU?
You can test it like i did on this video. Not recommend because some PSUs when they are could they use only let's say about 3 volts. You can use a Noctua, but than connect the cable on the motherboard.
@@NSC-Modz Thank you very much for your immediate answer.
I can not test the voltage as you did because I don't have the equipment. :-)
I'll look into the motherboard option. 👍
Yes, be sure that on bios the fan is set on standard NOT on silence.
im planning to replace my corsair cx600 fan with arctic p12, but it said the starting voltage is 3.9v (but a reddit thread said it was 2.7v). will it start? or should i get the same fan? (from what i googled; cx600 use Yate Loon D12SH-12 (starting voltage 2.18v). thankyou
(is it true that the corsair cx600 need 2.18v starting voltage?)
You can read a lot on the Internet but i always say, test it always your self, than you will know it better. So just connect it, start the computer and look if it spins or not.
@@NSC-Modz i agree, just trying to make sure so that i dont snip the fan cable for nothing. thankyou!!

Can i connect fan direct to electrity
It conforms how much volts, when you connected to 220v than say good bye to the fan 😆

I managed to find info about the fan which was in my PSU. It says that it operate on 6~13.8V. So looks like Noctua redux 1700 gonna work, right?
Yes, could work
CS750M PSU making insane noise. Can its fan be replaced by and brand fans? all 'cooling fans' work? matching size and starting voltage?

Hey NSC. Came across your video as I was looking at purchasing the Silverstone 1000w SFX PSU. The reviews talk alot about how loud the fans are under load. Are there any fans that could recommend me to do a DIY project in terms of changing the fans on the Silverstone? Price is not an issue for all it is worth. Thanks so much for all that you do!
Hi I would wait, soon the new EVGA PSU will be available, this PSU is really cool, the Fan will just work when the PSU is on load over 50% and it has on the side load bar LED Satus. Search for: EVGA SuperNova G7

I don't think that this ventilator is suitable for PSU, or CPU koeler. It simply does not move enough air mass to cool down the power supply properly. Be carefull with the tempratures. Furthermore, for their price around 20 euro are definately not worth it
you need to test always your self witch ventilator is best for your PSU, not all PSUs are the same, the one needs more cooling, the other maybe not. And it also conforms ther PC case and the airflow inside the computer case. But for MY PSU this fan is fully ok. Like i told, it conforms your PSU, not all are the same. I do this stuff over 26 years now, i think i know what i do :)
@@NSC-Modz I tried once this particular fan, silent winds, on an coolermaster 212 tower cpu cooler which fan was broken. Cpu i7-3770. Was running 50 celcius idle and 70-80 degrees under load. And 95-97 degrees and power throtteling with prime95. Ordered for 5 euro back then, Snowman from Aliexpress, 120mm 4pins pwm fan, idle was 35-36 degrees and +-75 degrees with prime95. Clearly the be quite is not suitable for heavy work like cpu and psu cooling. And also wanted to mention about BeQuite PSU's. I am building game pc's for years, buy a lot used components, Be Quite psu's specially over 500watts, often fail, i always test with psu tester before buy. Definately not seasonic quality, i would place them in the same class with CoolerMaster PSU's for example, decent quality but failure sensitive. No1 by far in PSU's is Super Flower, following by Seasonic and clones, Corsair, ANTEC is exellent quality, EVGA etc. But BeQuite PSU's are too expensive for the quality they give in my opinion. I would call them half scam bytheway...
@@mitsos1461 yeah, thats true... but quality costs money... good PSU´s in my opnion 1.Seasonic, 2.BeQuiet, 3.Enermax 4.SuperFlower 5.Antec 6.EVGA (EVGA can do better) and Corsair PSUs NEVER AGAIN
hi nsc if you have time oculd you show fuses replace on ps3 psu even tho its simple its cool to see xD

It conforms, if it's working on Load most times, better not... if you just surfing around than it should be enough.
@@NSC-Modz and if i play games on it ? then it will not work ?
@@hdtommy2790 if you play hard games, the psu needs to work more, so it gets hotter... if you got a good psu like with 800 Watts or more, it probably can handle hard games easier because it has more Power. That's why i recommend min. 1500rpm But like i told, it conforms the PSU Manufacture
@@NSC-Modz oh ok thank you so much for the help
@@hdtommy2790 you always welcome
Just plug any silent 3/4pin fan to mb and control it manually
Yeah yeah, and if it's to silence you gonna kill your PSU because it was running just with 400rpm and it will overheat 🤣 min. is 1200-1400rmp and that's important, doesn't matter where you gonna connect it...
@user-qh5uy1bs9r yes, but not the older ones...
The Bequiet ones, in order to create a reason for switching to top models, deliberately adjust the fan curve poorly and put their cheapest fans in power supplies.
Kind of reminds me of sensitivity in speakers
What you mean exactly?
