I cut my teeth listening to Jerry Clower. This guy, as well as people like him are truly the "salt of the earth". People like him are a big part of what has made this county great. I know the routine well from where I'm from. Work all day, Off on Sunday. Go to Church on Sunday (twice) and once on Wednesday night. Some of the best years of my life. I was considerably younger, and the world was a brand new place.
It might be a few miles between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Delta, but Jerry's people sound like my kinfolk!! God bless you Jerry and I will see you in heaven my brother!!
Those were good ole times, I listened to this same recording on an album my uncle and aunt had when I was a youngin'! My folks both passed, would sit and listen along with kinfolk to ole jerry just a laughing, sure miss those days, never to be again! Kids nowadays just don't get it, everything now has to using foul language and just nasty foul so called humor!
Grew up in Pearl River county and still live there. The Jerry Clower venue was the first gathering of that kind other than church revivals that I was allowed to attend . Remember it vividly to this day, Mama found out that there was people in the parking lot sipping beer and smoking cigarettes…. That was the end of my going off with my cousins for years … 🤣😂🤣 back then Mama and Daddy could find out things even before we got home, dang party lines 😬🥺
This story reminds me of the time my brother and his friend stuffed me at 10 years old, into a Commercial dryer up at the Trailer park clubhouse. I was so scared cause it was so hot. It was one of those large dryers but it was real small inside. I screamed and went around a few revolutions inside there until they let me out. I've never been the same since then. Jerry Clower is my Grandmas cousin and he affected our family with his Great spirit. God may he rest in Peace!
“And he had four Black and Tan hounds over in there and had his mama’s battlin’ board and a great big box of optican soap powder.” My goodness. He was the greatest at descriptions in humorous detail. Really got you into the imagery he was conveying
Jerry Clower, and Vince Gill are 2 TOTALLY different people in 2 Totally different fields. one is a singer and one was a comedian..... in other words, No comparison.
I have enjoyed this great American for the last 50 years. I just now learned that I have been mistaken about New-Gene Ledbetter. I have somewhat compromised hearing and have thought the “N” was an “M”. Thanks for clearing this up for me.
You are very lucky to have a great story teller like him In your family I have been listed to him about 20 year's great man. he said our country will not fall from outside it will fall from within.and that is what we have here in this present time
michael mullins It was on his 5th album, Live in Picayune. I heard him do some of those stories in person. He should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
@@darrenthornton8299 no doubt on the Hall of Fame. I know he's my favorite comedian. Clean humor. You don't hear of it anymore. Which Jerry was Baptist preacher. I heard him on a video clip once. He knew what he was preaching about too.

Wish Jerry was here to see our Prez DJT45, he'd be mighty pleased.
When I was a little kid, I used to think Jerry Clower was a preacher!
I'm from a small town in northeast MS. called Brooksville and my mom loved to listen to Jerry when I was younger. I thought he was a preacher too lol!
He'd have been a great one if he'd felt God calling him to it.
The Ledbetter Olympics album is available on CD.
