By far the king. Elvis is the only artist in Hx to be inducted into the rock, country, blues, gospel and pop hall of fame. the king never lip.synced either
Armed with incredible singing, dancing and performing skills, the late Michael Jackson definitely deserved the title 'The King of Pop'. His various vocal stylings, combined with the classic falsetto yelps and hiccup nuances, made him one of the most recognizable voices in the history of music, and he used his singing voice in a very rhythmic manner, kind of like a more melodic beatboxer. Jackson used to be a boy soprano as a kid, but his voice lowered down to high tenor as years went by. His higher range was generally very flexible and light, as he preserved his loose style even around very high pitches. However, he was also able to apply some wonderful distortion to his voice, creating a multi-timbral style that he used for different musical textures.
This is all nice, but actually as someone who teaches music, it can be objectively measured and Elvis is measured as having a far greater range in terms of octaves, from high to low, that Jackson never came close to having. Elvis also sang many different genres and thus the reason Elvis is in more hall of fames, etc. Jackson was a better dancer, and he wrote songs, too, but musically, he is not even considered close to the great vocalists like Elvis, Nat King Cole and Sinatra, etc. MJ also titled himself the "King of Pop," because of his jealousy of Elvis, which Elvis was, actually, if one goes by Billboard Top 40's music and pop rankings.
Christopher Tyler Michael had a greater vocal range. I'm pretty sure! As a vocalist, Michael is underrated in my opinion. His voice often gets overlooked by his dancing.
You can have your opinion, but it cam actually be measured, objectively, as I did. I have written on this extensively and Jackson was basically a falsetto/tenor while Presley was all at once able to sing falsetto, referred to as a tenor at times, but mostly a lyrical baritone, and could also sing base, certainly something Jackson could never do. Moreover, he hit open full throttled Cs that made opera singers envious. Absolutely astonishing. Watch Presley sing Hurt, live, while also, it is hard to find Jackson singing live, and when you do, he is no where near as good as when in the studio. Jackson would have ripped his longs apart on Hurt and, I'm sorry - as I have taught music - he just did not have the same and full range. Certainly a wonderful voice, but the only person who really comes close to Elvis is Freddy Mercury, and even Mercury, I have found, did not have Presley's mastery with a love ballad or sing as many different genres so well. Placido Domingo himself said it: Presley's voice is the only voice I envy. I agree, however, that Jackson's voice is sometimes overlooked. Best wishes!
Christopher Tyler From a page I read: "He's a high tenor with a three-and-a-half octave range. He goes from basso low E up to G and A-Flat above high C. A lot of people think it's falsetto, but it's not. It's all connected, which is remarkable. During his vocal exercises he would put his arms up in the air and would start spinning while holding a note. I asked him why he was doing that, and he said 'I may have to do it on stage, so I want to make sure it's possible.' I'd never seen anything like that before. I thought maybe I should stop him so he can concentrate on his voice now, and dance later, but I figured out if he can do it, let him do it." - Seth Riggs on Michael Jackson
Unbelievable how many rude comments are under this video. Stop insulting MJ or Elvis. You can't compare these two: Michael had a higher voice and Elvis a much deeper voice. MJ was more comfortable while singing high and Elvis while singing deep. To me, MJ has a better voice, 'cause I like high voices. Elvis was a great singer though, don't get me wrong. But I really don't know why people compare these two...
Why always comparing them? I personally like Michael more because his voice is more special and unique but both of them are legends and they both sing better than any other living artist today. Just enjoy their work and stop comparing two Kings.
I highly doubt elvis presley fans started this shit No need to we already had our king And knew he wasn't going anywhere It's his fans not being satisfied with their boys slot Dd
I believe Michael always wanted to be like Elvis. that's why he married Elvis daughter Lisa Marie. to try be in the Presley family Lisa I believe thought alot of Michael Jackson a Michael I believe did her to a I also believe he admired Elvis Presley.
Considering Elvis is completely out of his range near the Bs and Cs whilst MJ is in his comfort zone, its a testament to how incredible of a singer Elvis was. Definitely much more substance and technique in his vocals compared to MJ
***** Did you even watch the video? Elvis' range is absolutely not 'average'. B5, C5, D5 etc are tenor notes. Just because you can sing the hits doesn't mean anything. Anyway, range does not make a great singer and I don't get the obsession and weight people put on it. Elvis voice has a lot more colour, substance and a certain technicality compared to MJ, that's why he was an incredible singer. Prince is technically a baritone yet he's certainly one of the best male vocalists ever.
***** Yeah those things are subjective. But again, range doesn't impress me much. Prince couldn't hit a C5 in chest voice (as I said he has a very 'average' range without his falsetto) but this doesn't limit him because he's a fantastic vocalist who knows how to use his voice. The same thing with Elvis. Elvis hits a C5 and higher in chest voice in this very video. The fact he's a baritone who is hitting those notes confidently and with great tone shows how gifted he is as a singer. MJ in comparison was terrible when he's out of his comfort zone.
Christopher Tyler Compared to Michael, no way! Michael Jackson has the same amount of octaves as WHITNEY HOUSTON. Elvis honestly struggles to sing high notes, as far as range & versatility goes, MJ wins hands down. Elvis has 2-3 octaves, no?
Elvis is so far ahead , can't even compare, are u kidding me, that's why Elvis could sing Hard rock, blues, country, blues, pop , Christmas music and gospel, he even laugh beautiful, he laugh on Are u lonesome to night , and sold millions , cause his great laugh Elvis could be a baritone , tenor , and a bass, thats why he was so unique .
Both AMAZING! BUT! About the lower voice, if you listen to Michael's vocal warm up (which is on TH-cam) you will hear how low he can actually go. He sadly rarely did sing in his low voice, but damn does he have it deep!
Also, of course, Elvis outsold Jackson by several hundred million, overall, and still does each year.
I pretty much love every song played by both and Elvis actually didn't have what would be called a 4 octave range. It was more like 3, though at times, he could extend himself. Jackson simply didn't have the same power or range, and it is simply clear if you know how to sit with a piano and run the scales. It takes nothing away from Jackson's greatness, however, as he did his thing and Elvis did his. But when you see ridiculous comments like Elvis sounds like a whale or Elvis appeals to western ole grannies, you know the contest has been won. In fact, a lot of Elvis' best low notes and songs sang in a falsetto aren't even on here.
Elvis was a lyric baritone and Michael a light lyric tenor. Each one with very particular things about their vocal register. Elvis was more versatile singing various genres than Michael.
Elvis is and will always be "The King". He started that nickname, now we have Michael, James and Aretha. We finish their title with the type of music. Different genres with equally deserved royal titles of their music. I would like to nominate Hank Williams as King of country and Patsy as the Queen!.?!.?
Elvis out sings Michael every time. Not taking anything away from Michael, but starting with Elvis' voice at age 19 all the way to the last note he sang at age 42,his vocal range got better and more refined and polished with age. Not to mention the fact that every song that Elvis sang in this video, was sung live on stage, and every song Michael sang was recorded. No doubt about it...the winner here is of course, the one and only Elvis Presley...''THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL.
NUNCA MAIS, o mundo vai ver outra VOZ como a de ELVIS PRESLEY. Não tem pra ninguém, ah! e pode ficar aí esperneando tá? A gente deixa, somos compreensivos

Christopher Tyler From a page I read:
"He's a high tenor with a three-and-a-half octave range.
They should not be compared because they are not in the same league
Dd
Michael was very talented he sings and dance at a very young age, he got into motown at 1969. Plus he also had an angelic Voice.
Elvis
elvis da king of rock -N-roll!!!!!!!!!
Elvis's voice is amazing.
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
Why always comparing them? I personally like Michael more because his voice is more special and unique but both of them are legends and they both sing better than any other living artist today. Just enjoy their work and stop comparing two Kings.
I highly doubt elvis presley fans started this shit
No need to we already had our king
And knew he wasn't going anywhere
It's his fans not being satisfied with their boys slot
Dd
Take a listen to the mavericks he's standing in between these two and is still living
Dd
I believe Michael always wanted to be like Elvis. that's why he married Elvis daughter Lisa Marie. to try be in the Presley family Lisa I believe thought alot of Michael Jackson a Michael I believe did her to a I also believe he admired Elvis Presley.
MJ has the best vocals
Ryan Anderson amazing how black people would pick elvis ifvelvis was black and mh was white
Not true Elvis has the best vocals
Frank Furfaro wtf, that person might not even be black. Don’t put race into this it’s ignorant asf.
Não sou fã de nenhum, mas musicalmente analisando ESSE vídeo, prefiro Elvis em termos de qualidade vocal (não em estilo de música).
elvis is the greatest singer off all Times
Considering Elvis is completely out of his range near the Bs and Cs whilst MJ is in his comfort zone, its a testament to how incredible of a singer Elvis was. Definitely much more substance and technique in his vocals compared to MJ
Did you mj butterflies acapella
Search for it boy
Mj vocal was never terrible and he hav 4octave range
Daniel George Smith elvis is a high tenor
Elvis had much stronger voice than MJ but MJackson had higher. Two big legends in music.
I prefer to Elvis but both are legends
MICHAEL.
No
k
Yeah Man Michael THE BEST
LOL Actually, as someone who teaches music, it can be objectively measured and Elvis is measured as having a far greater range in terms of octaves.
Due GIGANTI DELLA MUSICA, ma i passaggi vocali di ELVIS sono unici ed insuperabili,ELVIS FOREVER THE KING .
Elvis had it on MJ in every way possible
ELVIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elvis! Nobody can touch Elvis till this day!!! He wasnt names THE KING for no reason!! The KING of music! End
King of Music 👑
Michael Jackson is the Best!
no. Elvis is. Without Elvis, no michael as you know him. Fact.
mjs heart wake up mj doesnt come close to the king
I will have to disagree I'm pretty sure Michael wasn't really a huge fan of his music
Galli Kubari that's because he was a perfectionist.
alexa rodriguez Dont forget Ritchie valens
MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, of course, Elvis outsold Jackson by several hundred million, overall, and still does each year.
Elvis by a long way! Miles better singer than Mj
Elvis won hands down
Michael is the best
Anderson Official elvis so much better .
1:54 This is a big answer to every Elvis haters.
Elvis was a lyric baritone and Michael a light lyric tenor. Each one with very particular things about their vocal register. Elvis was more versatile singing various genres than Michael.
Look dude I seriously like the big Three. Elvis,Beatles & MJ . MJ was a complete performance package . Elvis the best vocalist there ever was
Elvis' voice is more diverse, richer, and more gorgeous than Michael's.
MICHAEL JACKSON
elvis made rock and roll so hi is the king
Elvis is and will always be "The King". He started that nickname, now we have Michael, James and Aretha. We finish their title with the type of music. Different genres with equally deserved royal titles of their music. I would like to nominate Hank Williams as King of country and Patsy as the Queen!.?!.?
Elvis is the King period, he revolutionized music, everybody else followed !!!
Elvis was the king
elvis has an Opera voice MJ has an baby voice
True. But the baby is cute though..
NUNCA MAIS, o mundo vai ver outra VOZ como a de ELVIS PRESLEY. Não tem pra ninguém, ah! e pode ficar aí esperneando tá? A gente deixa, somos compreensivos
É difícil acreditar que Elvis era um ser humano, ele realmente foi único, não era só mais um cantor, era O cantor. Foi apenas uma única vez que tivemos alguem como Elvis na Terra e nunca mais teremos
There's only one answer to this. Elvis Presley. X
Elvis is better
Michael outclassed Presley from the very beginning.
Mj was copying Elvis's life style since the begining
Vendeta Asskicker false
@@vendetaasskicker5740 you mean that penis presley???😂😂
@@vendetaasskicker5740 Michael Jackson's biggest inspiration was James brown you are crazy
Le plus grand chanteur du monde et monsieur Elvis Presley le King du rock n roll
Elvis will win this battle all day long. Jackson doesnt come close with that little girl voice
This is a ridiculous comparison! Elvis was the greatest singer ever. Jackson had nothing to offer aftter his only big lp thriller which i think is overated. Jackson was bot a good singer. Elvis was amazing. Good looking . jackson blane out sucked
surely Elvis is the winner... Surely!!! micheal is good too, but Elvis has a vocal " MALER" than Micheal!!
i am not saying that MJ sings bad!
i am telling that Elvis is better than Micheal....
also most of everything on here Elvis is mainly from live performances where Jacksons are done in a studio where he can perfect it that automatically makes Elvis the winner
Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King"
ELVIS BY FAR
Michael Jackson is great, but Just listen to that voice from Elvis Presley. Unmatched. Fan of both of them, but I'm going with Elvis all day.
